About
Immerse yourself in the history of Ancient Egypt with 50 missions in Pharaoh™: A New Era, a remake of Pharaoh (and the expansion Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile), one of the best city builders from the golden age of Sierra Entertainment. Stone by stone, build your city and manage all aspects of its development to ensure it prospers and makes you a powerful and revered pharaoh.

Develop your city by cultivating the fertile lands along the banks of the Nile valley. Erect the iconic monuments of Ancient Egypt, including the pyramids, the Sphinx and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Build temples and mausoleums to help manage all aspects of your city's health and culture as well as the predominant polytheistic religion of the time.
Ensure your city is prosperous enough to deal with economic or political crises, or even plundering by enemies. A pharaoh takes care of its people and does whatever it can to earn the favour of the gods.

Pharaoh™: A New Era celebrates 20 years since the release of the famous franchise with a complete remake, including more than 50 playable missions and over 100 hours of gameplay.
The "Campaign" mode teaches you the game basics while allowing you to experience a unique story in the heart of Ancient Egypt. Explore all aspects of life in a thriving city, build and manage all its fundamental elements to ensure it flourishes: the economy, internal and external trade, culture, health, agriculture, education, etc.

The journey back in time is really brought to life with this new version, which upgrades the gameplay mechanics to modern standards and completely redesigns the captivating soundtrack and gorgeous isometric 2D graphics.

Reviews
Graphics are badin the sense the animation and style looks like cartoons now, the original version had better graphics in the sense of textures and details, this looks like a mobile game now, the menu is soulless, i have no clue why they changed the layout, the original UI was perfect the way it was.
This game is still buggy and looks like the development has ceased,

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Positives: many of the things you loved about the original are here. If you enjoy the residence upgrading and production trees aspect of Pharaoh then this will work for you. Negative: They've done away with combat. You still have to make combat buildings but the AI fights for you somewhere off screen in a little side window thing. It's boring, a waste of a major aspect of the game, and they've kept the defensive buildings in there anyway for some reason? Feels a little like a nostalgia cash-grab.
Do not purchase! This game has glitches that do not show up until long after you have played the 2 hour max time for refund. Steam refuses to make it right despite the fact that the game has become unplayable.
Nostalgia but a bit disappointing. Used to have the original on CD and probably 1k hours on it, one of my favorite time sinks of childhood. This new version feels bland. It doesn't have much for quality of life improvements and has changes that don't seem thought out at all. There is no way to deal with crocodiles now, unless you just turn them off. Some bugs I experienced I also found in other reviews from 2 years ago after launch. I found some mechanics to be questionable, others from the original game not improved. I will say this does run smooth, as it should. I wanted to give this a thumbs up and am close to it but it just does not have it, people comparing it to generic mobile game may be right. I would buy again but it would have to be a pretty low price for nostalgia. It just does not have the replayability that it should.
Publisher doesnt care if the bugs are fixed and if the game has more stuff than the original (or the same amount). Combat was taken out to save the publisher time and money. Love the game but dont love the publishers little attitude of dump the game and take the money and run without allowing the developer to finish it. Wouldnt trust any more of Dotemu's games to deliver.
If you can get over the cartoonish art style that reminds you of mobile slops, there is nostalgic joy of a classic to be found.
I'm a huge original Pharaoh game fan. I did not expect something this bad out of this rework. I don't know what creators were thinking, well, looking at todays games, they did their best job which is very bad for me. 1. Main menu - looks ok, but animations are so long that first thing i checked was if there is option to disable it completely, or increase the speed. Luckily there is a mod that increase the speed. If creators did not notice this as a problem then they are just not skilled enough to make games or they did not test it at all. Imagine trying to test this and wasting 2 minutes on menu animations to enter single mission. I know they probably had dev builds but whatever. 2. Graphics - some elements looks ok, for example temples, but other elements looks completely terrible, making it like combination of 2 graphic styles in one game. Flood also looks bad. Very bad job here. It is visible on the screens and videos, so there is no need to elaborate more on this topic. 3. UI/UX - some elements are just ok, but others are much worse than in an original game. For example storage window is much worse than in original game. In original version it was already bad experience, but I feel like it is now even worse than in original. That is just one example but there is so many mistakes that I do not gonna list them all. Just do not buy this bad game. 4. Gameplay - I was stuck in second mission because of a bug. I restarted the mission twice, and after that was able to finish it correctly. I don't know all changes that were made to the gameplay, but it feels not like the original game. There is change with how workers are managed in original game and this option you can change in setting window, which is one of the very few things that are ok. I bought this game for like $1 and I feel like I wasted money on it. This remake is that bad. Original game is still better than this parody.
Figured after 3 years and the recent positive reviews they had fixed all their bugs. Game is still buggy, 60% completed. Defensive structures exist - Walls, Gates, Tower but provide no combat advantage Combat - Handled through a popup screen where the two armies auto run at each other and the larger force auto wins Aggressive animals (Crocodile, Hippos) are still in the game, but since there is 0 control over military on city map they just run rampent unless you want to box them in with small statues 3 damned years to fix the nostalgia of something they didn't even have to design from scratch, the concepts already existed...the team just got lazy in implementation. It's like playing a game redeveloped by interns hoping for a pat on the back.
took my money as a die hard original fan raised my expectation and ruined an absolute favorite gaming experience of mine, by not implementing the combat system.. what the hell guys? i wish i could give this a good review it is a better game in every other aspect but what set Pharaoh apart and frankly on throne, was being the only game in existence with a perfect blend of city building and RTS combat. No one has topped the original game and these devs have seemingly gone out of their way to solidify that fact.
