Seems mid fun, and thats the problem. Theres ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of games like this and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of early access games that never gets realy DONE. So let them bastards work for the glory and stay out of the hype train that rewards these bastards too soon, so they never need to finish.

Jeżeli lubisz gry survivalowe, eksplorację i pirackie klimaty, zdecydowanie warto dać Windrose szansę. After spending 34+ hours in Windrose, I can confidently say this is one of the best pirate survival games I've played. The atmosphere is fantastic, capturing the feeling of being a real pirate while combining exploration, base building, crafting, sailing, and challenging combat into one enjoyable experience. Every new island feels rewarding to discover, and upgrading your ship and equipment always gives you something to work toward. The graphics are beautiful, the world is full of detail, and the soundtrack perfectly complements the adventure. Combat is engaging and rewarding, requiring good timing without feeling unfair. Whether you prefer playing solo or with friends, the game offers plenty of fun. The progression system keeps you motivated, and there's always another objective waiting just over the horizon. Considering that the game is still in Early Access, the amount of content is already impressive, and it's clear that the developers are passionate about improving it with frequent updates. If you're a fan of pirate adventures, survival games, and exploration, I highly recommend giving Windrose a try.
The game was initially enjoyable, but the game hard locks you out of progress. You cant progress until you defeat Richards; however, he is incredibly hard to defeat and after 10+ times I am done with this game.
tl:dr - this is Enshrouded that "we have at home". And that is said with Enshrouded not being too great itself in mind. A total slop which brings nothing new to the genre and is just copying previous games. Not even a pirate or naval game despite it's appearance. Tedious and unrewarding.
Co-op
This is not actually a co-op. Developers made some band-aids on a single player game so several people can play on one server in paralell. You can't even be a crew of one ship, everyone will have to build their own ship. And resources don't scale, so have fun cutting wood for 3 hours but as 6 people on different islands. God forbid one of the players to skip a session. You'll have to catch up on quests alone, and everyone will have to wait.
Survival mechanics
This game is posing as a survival, but actually it is akin to a mobile gacha trying every thing imaginable to keep you playing longer. But in gachas there are at least some sense why developer would want such a thing, yet in Windrose there is none. You get diabolically penalized for every death, losing loot, active food, stamina regeneration and having to get back to your body sometimes for half an hour of real time. It is quite easily mitigated. Mitigated if you don't forget to do all the things as building a bed and bonfire at every island, bringing food etc. All the resources for food, bonfires and beds are easily available. Bed and bonfire is literally just grass and wood which is plenty everywhere on any island. So it's not a survival, more of a checklist simulator. But when you forget something, you'll get punished beyond measure, and this is going to be frustrating. Well, you can tell by the length of this review.
RPG system
RPG system is pretty much Avowed but even worse, without active abilities. You can level your stats and sometimes choose talents. Stats, as per usual, are just flat increases of your damage, stamina and health. Talents are pretty much the same but more akin to perks. They feel very weak as you only get 1-2 talent points for a level, and every talent is like 3% of damage/crit/something. If you've played World of Warcraft, imagine a talent tree which only has first three rows, that'd be it. So when you level up you get +% of "something" and that's it. I personally would prefer that leveling my character would actually change my gameplay somehow, open new paths and abilities etc. Instead of that i am only able to use light attack, heavy attack, shoot and dodge for all game long without anything changing whatsoever. And leveling. I'd vote for a president that'd prohibit making games with RPG elements without giving experience for killing enemies. Here you only get experience for completing quests and exploration. Imagine that it is better to just run around some point of interest looting chests while kiting all the enemies looney-tunes style rather than actually kill anyone. There are a ♥♥♥♥ ton of enemies in this game and killing all of them only gives you loot, and most of that loot is utterly useless. So in a combat-oriented game you'll feel that combat is a chore that needs to be avoided.
Combat
I must admit that i suck ass at such games as Dark Souls. I've almost managed to finish the first one, but it was too tedious to endlessly try to kill some boss to learn all the patterns while also being frustrated becase of some random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. And this game's combat is Dark Souls from Wish. Only key difference is that you can't roll and can only dodge instead. Otherwise it's the same with parries, light and heavy attack, and attacks using stamina. But that is a difference in combat. Yet these games are completely different in everything else, and that is why this combat there sucks even more ass than i do at Dark Souls. Why exactly i hate it with my gut: 1. Pretty much everyone will two-shot you even in the best available armor. One mistake with parrying or dodging means running from the spawn point, which can be quite far away. Remember the survival part and consider how many times you'll die without a respawn point nearby, or without food, or whatever else. 2. Parrying is absolutely unrewarding because it does not increase your damage. In Dark Souls a parry is almost a one shot to the enemy. Here it is just a short stun with the same damage. 3. If you don't want to die your combat will boing down to repeating the same pattern of two hits and dodging back. 4. Enemies are damage sponges. Yes, you get two shot, but even a 3rd level boar requires at least several hits. Enemies of your level are usually killed with 10+ hits. 5. There are ♥♥♥♥ ton of enemies that charge you while being rubberbanded to your character. And yes, this is going to kill you with one shot 6. Fighting in confined spaces are a pain in the ass. Camera will be your enemy too. 7. Using guns with half an hour reloading doesn't feel as powerful as it should. It is far easier to just kill an enemy in melee than running around with a gun.
Naval battles
Aside from the fact that you can't be a ship's crew on co-op, naval battles even more of a slop than usual combat: 1. There are always 3-4 enemy ships that attack you simultaneously, there are no 1x1 fights at all 2. They hit like truck. You'll have to upgrade everything imaginable to at least stand a chance if you're of the same level. 3. They drop almost nothing of value but insignias needed to gain reputation. This is again some World of Warcraft kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ which i don't find fun or engaging 4. Battle itself is just shooting cannons until one of you is dying. Boarding feels useless as it is infinitely easier to just sink the enemy ship 5. Hitreg of these cannons would make Escape from Tarkov on 900+ ping blush And as they don't give you experience either you'll probably avoid these most of the time. Maybe for first couple of fights it's fun, but it gets stale real fast.
Base building
This is 81392th Minecraft reiteration, just worse. Absolutely the same as in any other game of this genre, nothing new. And as useless as usual. A couple of leaves formed as a roof will do for the rest of the game, everything else is just workstations and chests.
Exploration
Every island is aboslutely the same as the previous one. You get new enemies when getting into new biomes, but that's it. An island is just some animals, bushes and trees that can be gathered. It also has points of interest, of which all are literally just a several chests with loot. What loot exactly you might ask? 99% of times it will be green-blue-purple random items that are either used to upgrade gear or just have to be sold to vendors and have no other purpose. 1% of times it is actually a unique weapons. I understand that it is hard to populate game with actually different things, so lazy developers just use this formula of endless resources of several grades that player can use. But what is the point of "exploration" when you literally always getting same things? That is boring af and feels like you're farming resources rather than exploring anything. I fail to see much difference between mining copper in a cave and killing mobs in the same cave in order to loot another EPIC INGOT OF GODLY LEGENDARY +1 DAMAGE WEAPON UPGRADE.
A great pirate survival idea… but not something I can recommend right now Windrose is the kind of game that immediately caught my attention. I really like pirate games, and when I saw the idea of an online survival pirate game with exploration, ships, islands, resources and naval combat, I honestly thought it could be something amazing. And to be fair, the game does have some good parts. The world looks nice, the environment has a good atmosphere, and the exploration is probably the part I enjoyed the most. Sailing between islands, discovering new places and just being in that pirate-themed world can feel really cool at times. But sadly, the rest of the experience has too many problems right now. Even for an Early Access game, the balance feels almost nonexistent. There is a lot of water between islands, so the game clearly pushes you toward ship battles, but the naval combat itself feels awful. It doesn’t really feel strategic. Most fights feel like a stat-check where you spend way too much time fighting a ship, sometimes around 30 minutes, only to get almost nothing meaningful out of it. The melee combat also feels hard just for the sake of being hard. Guns feel extremely weak compared to melee weapons, and even when you are much higher level than a normal enemy, they can still have way more HP and deal more damage than you. Enemies can block too much, they don’t seem to follow the same stamina or block meter rules as the player, and fighting basic mobs often requires way too much preparation because of all the debuffs and conditions involved. The world itself also feels empty in many areas. Visually, it can look good, and the pirate fantasy is definitely there, but the gameplay loop doesn’t feel satisfying enough to support it yet. The resource system, combat design and naval side of the game all need a lot of work before the experience feels smooth or rewarding. That’s the frustrating part: the idea is there. I can see what this game wants to be, and I genuinely like the concept. A survival pirate game with exploration and online elements sounds great on paper. But right now, too many systems feel unfinished, unbalanced or simply not fun enough. Overall, Windrose has potential, and I hope it improves a lot during Early Access. But in its current state, I can’t recommend it. It looks like a game that could become good one day… but right now, it still feels far away from that.
I have played a number of survival games now, both alone and with friends, and whilst I'm not going to sit and say this is the best I have played, it does have the potential to be one of, under certain conditions. Windrose is early access, and whilst that doesn't mean it is currently lacking in content, I do think certain aspects are crying out for some balance. First off, graphically, its very good. Its looks lovely, the sky in particular is gorgeous. I dont have any issues with lag or anything like that. Loading into the server is a little on the slow side, but I've had worse. I enjoy the sailing very much, the waves are pretty realistic in their behaviour, and its quite nice just pottering around exploring the oceans. I haven't particularly done any building, minus the placing of the decor, but I am lead to believe it is perfectly fine, and no real frustrations. Different decor and building options are unlocked with faction rep, but that also hasnt proven too difficult to obtain, so no complaints. The combat. Oh boy. Was that a baptism of fire. I had heard that it was a particularly tough combat system, but I was not prepared for how tough. I have played all the dark souls, plus Elden ring, and I died more in this than any of them. Especially early on. Every single enemy hits you like a truck, and if you happen to try and solo more than one in the early game then you are done for. As we have progressed that has balanced out a bit, but its still something you have to make sure you're prepared for. The trade off is that your gear and weapons don't lose durability, so you don't have to constantly be repairing everything, which is nice. I do think that the materials system needs some balancing. For example, trees do not grow back. Standard wood can be easily obtained through sea crates, but we are currently mid game, and hardwood is less easy to obtain reliably. Same for sulphur. There is just the odd node dotted around, no where concrete to farm it, and you need it for gunpowder. Nothing game breaking, but something I would like to see a little more balance to in future. Levelling up is slower than Im used to. You dont get XP for killing enemies, building, mining, gathering, nothing. Only from quests and completing places of interest. I do like that, because I am usually the one a load of levels behind my friend, because he tends to get sunk into the building in these games and races ahead of me. It has meant we are completely synced level wise. All in all, I am having a lot of fun playing Windrose, and I hope that will continue for a good many hours to come.
Yet another pirate game filled with promise, yet with game-breaking bugs and endless irritations that make it just not worth the effort. You're constantly thinking that it's about to be really fun and satisfying, but then you realize that it's just not going to deliver. My following complaints are from multiplayer experience with my friend (and I could say much more).... 1) Resources are not shared. So, you'd better have "shared quests" turned on, or you'll be doing twice the grind to get twice the needed resources to advance, which means twice the time wasted (see points to come below). I hate games that give one great weapon (by luck) to one player but either nothing or a crap weapon to the other. In multiplayer, everything should be shared/doubled. 2) Combat SUCKS! This is one of those games that pretends like you have tremendous precision with attacking/parrying/dodging. It's not true, because this is also one of those games in which once you start an attack, ONLY your opponent can interrupt you (and deal you damage in the process). YOU don't get to start an attack, realize your opponent is about to swing, and then stop your attack to try to dodge or parry. You WILL complete your entirely, useless attack motion. And, worse, this is one of those games in which you are FORCED to lunge forward during melee attacks, which OFTEN lunges you past your opponent, who instantly wheels on you to hit you from behind, while, wait for it... YOU are trying to turn around and, again, attack, which lunges you forward right into your opponent's swing, and you couldn't interrupt to do anything different, because, did I mention? Combat SUCKS! I hate this whole approach to combat. 3) Fine, I could live with all of that, although it takes away a LOT of the fun, because there's this promise of sailing and building an empire, etc., etc., but "shared quests" are totally broken. And that's the final deal-breaker for me. ANY game that purports to be "multiplayer" and touts "shared quests" CANNOT desync quest progress. Period. Not once, not ever. Full stop. This game is fundamentally broken in that regard, and the moment we discovered that fact during our last quest, we were done with it. And it's not like it's trivial to "go back" and try to figure out where the desync happened to "fix it." It takes 20 minutes of REAL time to sail between two islands. Then you hack your way through annoying dodos, boars, etc. to get to an encampment, then get mobbed by more powerful enemies. You're 40 minutes to an hour to "deal with" one island. So, "going back" throws that all away, plus another 20 minutes to sail back across to the "starting island" for that quest, the, even if you could figure out to how to resync everything, you then get to rinse and repeat the other island. Nah, not fun. Not worth it. Yet another pirate game that just CANNOT deliver on its promises. And yet another "multiplayer" game that is broken in the most critical and fundamental aspect of what a "multiplayer" game is supposed to have right. Maybe someday this will be worth revisiting. But in its current condition, there's just too much wrong with it. The frustration and tedium isn't worth hoping for delivery on the other promises. More than 2,000,000 copies sold, and quest desync is still a LONG-standing and unfixed issue. Clearly the devs either can't or won't deal with it. So, this is a HARD NO until the devs show that they give a crap. Don't give 'em any more money for a fundamentally broken game.
