The developer seemed to be holding a conversation with us, everything looked like it was getting better, but now, silence. I had high hopes for this game, but now I'm concerned that they have it to a halfway playable state, and now they're just gonna abandon it. There are still low level bugs that I've mentioned several times and they won't respond on them. I'm hopeful that they eventually come back around to this project, but I can't recommend this game yet due to the widely different experiences each player has. I seem to be a lucky one that can highball through the map with 30+ cars, and not derail, but others are seeing derailments ever few hundred feet at slow speed. Save your money for one of the competitors that sprang up.
I got this game back in early access and had a lot of fun with it. It had large issues back then, a lot of the mechanics were very clunky, but that was fine - it was still in early access. The developers' progress on resolving that was fairly slow, but the publisher deal with Astragon seemingly improved that. Last year however, the game left early access for a full release, which a lot of people were surprised by. At that point the game had gotten a shiny new UI, but a lot of the clunkyness was still there, so others and I were worried that Astragon would release the game in the state that it was and not bother to improve it from there. So far this has turned out to be true. The full release did add a few new features, but overall the game still feels clunky and janky, especially when it comes to track laying and multiplayer. It is basically impossible to build realistic looking track along steep inclines and hills, as there is no way to do cut-and-fill or to create tunnels. Multiplayer still has issues with rubber-banding, making it horrible for anyone but the host to drive trains when there is high ping. Things like these are acceptable for an early access release but not for a fully released game. Railroads Online definitely fills a niece with the ability to build your own track but none of its game mechanics are very fleshed out. I would recommend looking at Railroader or waiting for Century of Steam instead,

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Fun game but NOT worth it's current price. Multiplayer is still buggy and can't handle more than 1 friend. Deleting facilities doesn't delete them fully and they stay on the map without a physical entity so you are just screwed. The update to the track laying system wasn't an improvement since they changed the free placing mode and made it worse. Locking the ability to place a simple tree behind a DLC is scummy. It's more fun to just use Garry's Mod and mess around with trains.
This game is BAD. there is TONNES of grinding to get A SINGULAR locomotive its half finished the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ took your money if you bought it, Everyone in the dev team that used to be there left. God knows whats happening to this anymore.
The game has a serious lack of depth and feels very unfinished. The last update we received for the game was back in December, with some players now considering the game "abandonware." There are better options available, such as railroader, that have more depth of systems and better progression.
Dead Abandonware
As of writing this review the last update was back in 2024 and there are only 95 people playing this game... I think that says everything you need to know about the game. Don't get me wrong, it's an alright game to play that I may pop in here and there. But it's riddled with bugs and it's kinda meh compared to others like Derail Valley and Railroader. The only unique feature is you BUILD your railway, which don't get me wrong; is a really cool feature. But it's a bit janky and the overall mechanics of the game could use some serious work. However; since the last update was over two years ago... i don't think that will ever happen. Thankfully, we have Century of Steam to look forward to... If it will ever release lol
TL;DR: Should you get it?
Ultimately that is up to you. I personally don't recommend it just because of it's janky mechanics and lackluster gameplay. BUT if you love trains that much, and me personally, I would recommend if you have at least one friend to play with - And you don't mind the price tag... Sure, why not. Go for it. But if I could go back... Yeah this game ain't worth $30 for me.
This game is abandoned and broken, I literally cannot couple cars together properly which is wild considering its an essential part of the game. There are mobile games that are better then this
I haven't touched this game in a long while. I was very disappointed after the first year of development, so I thought with the new "full release" things might have improved. In the early days around the time I stopped playing, the game was a buggy mess, very poorly made, lacking real gameplay features and having no sense of achievement. It also had a dev team that was very much not open to community suggestions and fixes. I'm pleased to say, this has not changed one bit. This is the exact same game it was when it first launched as early access, except this time it has a fancy menu, hud and ooooh, lots and lots of pointless locomotives. I've played 10 hours recently and quite frankly, I don't want to play again. The pre-laid maps are honestly the most shockingly bad things I've seen and incredibly hard to traverse with a starter engine. The couplings are the same terrible system. The physics are the same jittery mess, the sounds are really not good and again, don't seem to have changed since day one. After all this time what do we see? A game committed to cramming as many locomotives into a game as possible to the point they have to release a DLC. They are also adding wildlife! Finally some life in this game.. but hang on, you have to place them as objects. Way to make the game feel even more lifeless. Back to gameplay. The jist of it is, deliver thing from one isolated industry with nobody and nothing around, to another isolated industry with nobody and nothing around. What is the actual point if at the end of all this you just sell the end product to a depot in the middle of nowhere? Sure you've given us buildings to place, (with the worst object placement tools) but who has all this time to build a lifeless town in this lifeless world? It takes forever as it is to build a suitable railway line with the terrible track placing tools as it is, nevermind doing anything else around that. To sum up, if you want a train based game which has good handling trains, a world that feels alive and gameplay that will make you feel like you are doing something and gives you a sense of achievement, play literally anything else and I highly recommend looking on the store page for other upcoming titles based on American narrow gauge railroading. If you really want to burn your money on this, I won't stop you, but you should do so knowing that this is a very poor use of your money.
I decided to try to play the game after years of it sitting in my library. My god. Don't know about the drama and the game is obvously not updated, but that is not why I do not recommend it. The Controlls for PC are the worse I have experience in any game. It plays like a terribly botched mobile port in terms of controls. Even things that are simple on-offs you have to click and drag, sometimes up down, sometimes to the side. and the longer interactions? You click, drag up as if holding a virual joystick and wait for the slooow animation to complete. And if you so much as move the mouse 1 pixel the other direction while holding your breath and trying to stay still, the animation will reverse. I don't think any developer or tester has even tried to even use keyboard and mouse after they did console port. I do not believe a single tester touched the tutorials or played the game for any lenght of time. The tutorials are a BUGGY MESS. Every step is excruciatingly slow. And if you so much as LOOK in the wrong direction while waiting 10 seconds for the "Great now you know how to walk". message to dissapear It will all break. The most frustrating gaming experience in years.
honestly. after owning this game since early access and trying both dlc's. its not great. hasnt been updated in over a year and barely works. buggy as ♥♥♥♥. it can be fun if you dont care about operations much but honestly just buy "railroader" or "derail valley" or wait for "century of steam" to come out and you will get WAY more bang for you buck if you want a realistic experience.
