Early Access Scam. Dev abandoned it for his boat sim that no one plays. Please fix this ♥♥♥♥ if you wanna ban me for being too efficient at bug finding and getting upset over lack of fixes!! Update: Still as broken as OG Review, slightly less laggy yet no real additions to the Game, UI or Gameplay which is good for a Mechanics Simulator but so incredibly lazily maintained and unfinished that I genuinely only play it to idly repair junkers to address comments about playtime changes. Still dont recommend paying more than 5 Bucks for it as it somehow runs even worse than Crysis on a 9400M on Ultra, funnily enough that actually improves the FPS to turn up settings because the Menu is so lacking and unfinished that somehow the Ultra Preset with 2048x2048 Textures runs more stable than 512x512 Ultra Low at 1080p. I will revise this review if updates have been made or I reach 600 Hours as I cant refund it :P

90 hours of gameplay for me is actually a lot, I don't often have the time or the attention span to properly get sucked into any game. I do love this game, and would recommend it. But I can't disagree with the negative reviews either. It's preference at the end of the day. This game offers a lots of freedom and innovation where even the other car mechanics sim "greats" haven't even got close. BUT it comes at the cost of some unavoidable Unity/Solo Dev jank and a true function over form appearance. Having attempted to make car mechanic game in unity myself as a hobby, I think it's actually amazing how far the Dev has pushed the engine to achieve this game, despite the issues: -Colliders for parts have to convex, but cars are naturally very complex and have interlocking concave shapes. So Physics bugs and glitches then working deep inside an engine bay or on an engine is mostly unavoidable. You have to instead be smart about collider forms and when/how to control their interactions. -Unity Physics itself isn't exactly the best to begin with for complex "assemblies of parts". It's extremely hard to work around this. It's merely the cost any complex physics unity based game like this pays. -The cars themselves are built using the Unity's transform hierarchy, which Unity themselves hide LOTS of expensive operations when you start re-parenting parts to another. Hence why you get small lag spikes when attaching a built engine to a built chassis. -The painting mechanic is actually an amazing innovation - welding/cutting holes into a body panel is an amazing use of a painting plugin (I think I know which one is used and its a really good one). The dynamic paint spray size and projection is a result of using particles and collisions so the mere fact you can paint across multiple objects at once is awesome. Although this means every single car parts has it's own set of additional Colour, Gloss and Bump maps - which can get very memory intensive. -I have a feeling the driving physics is the Dev's own solution, in which case is very impressive. The car adapts to parts being missing, bent or worn. Although not hardcore simulation level, I have a lot of fun just driving and drifting around. -Although somewhat shallow - the game loop inspires you to collect cars, and before you know it you have your "favourite" hunk of rust you end up spending 10k and sacrificing several junkers to fix up despite them having been in better condition, etc... It does immerse you can connect you to your cars which I feel many other games fail to do, not through lack of trying, but they forget what owning and working on cars actually means to certain people. It gives the game and cars soul. Now the bad... There is obviously lots of jank which isn't Unity's fault: -I swear down; for "random" colours, you will get sick of all the stupid pink and lime green cars that spawn. Actual nice colours are rare to come by. Ironically this does make finding a nice, correctly coloured car more rewarding. -Save/Load times are ridiculous. I get there's lots of parts and generating whole cars is a complicated process but there are so many ways to do this more efficiently. Pooling parts and spare paint textures, templates for cars etc. I feel each time a car or part is spawned, the Dev is doing this all inside the main thread, one by one, allocating all memory as it goes. No wonder it take 5 minutes to load a 14 car junk-yard. I suspect the pre-attaching parts to each other is the main cost? -I cannot comment on the poor optimisation of this game. For how basic the graphics are - My I9 14900k and 4080 Super struggles to run this game at above 60 fps on LOW graphics when there are ~3 or more cars in view. This boggles the mind. I still have no idea if this is actual rendering time or processor time that's holding it up - but either way my feeling is this is definitley a design issue from the Dev and not a Unity one. There is no excuse for these low poly-*** looking rust nuggets making my pc hang up this bad. None. Simple features that would improve this game ten-fold (from my view): - Give players a ratchet strap that connect from trailer eyelet to car wheel / tow hook. When attached, simply make the car a child to the parent body and make it kinematic. NO MORE TRAILER VOODOO. - I'd personally remove the pushing mode from the player default - make it a mode you toggle. Too many stupid bugs when you don't want to effect the car. - Shrink the player collider - I should be able to lay down under the pickup without any issues but I always glitch inside because I hit the "get in the car" trigger. - I don't know what the issue is regarding the performance. But honestly, just profile that **** and find out.
It starts out good, then you notice more and more jank over time, at first it's funny and then it starts becoming annoying, then it literally becomes game breaking to the point you don't know how to fix it. Done with this game.
After 5 years still in very early development.
The game managed to crash at least 10 times in those short 1.7 hours, and at the end, it crashed twice within a very short period of time, so I just gave up. Unbelievable for a game that was 5 years in early access and actually developed throughout those 5 years, makes me wonder how it was developed. Now all of a sudden the developer decides to give up on promises that were made in the early access notes on the store page by removing the game from early access and calling it a "fix". The dev did absolutely the same thing with his other boat sim game "fixing it" by removing it from early access without any update, without any announcement. That speaks enough. Let's talk about the game itself and try to ignore this worthless dev, which I tried and failed miserably. The game world is empty, with no activities whatsoever rather than the car fixing aspect of the game. Takes super big amount of time for things to load. Most of the time, they don't even load properly with car parts falling from the sky. Absolutely horrible driving physics, to the point you can't even center your vehicle on the car lift while reversing. I must say the game does have potential, as a car enthusiast myself, I see it. At the start the vehicles looked so cool, especially the ones with visible crash damage, then being able to fix them. You don't see that in every game. Anyway, with the things listed and the dev being factor himself, the joy comes down to zero. At the moment of review overpriced pos, even at 15% discount. I don't see this game being finished even in another 10 years with the developer's pace, he is just too slow and can't on his own. Don't even think wasting that amount of money on this dev with the current price of the game. It needs to be adjusted or discounted to at least around 55%. You can't be paying this much for a game in this state, let me mention the fact the community has done much more in mods than the dev himself. If the price was right, not high by the developer's words on "purpose" so only people with decent PCs buy his poorly optimized game so they can actually run it... Yea, that's also one of the reasons I said let's try to ignore this worthless dev, but you just can't. Tried it myself, failed, and refunded.
EDIT: Scam developer. spent loads of time working on another game here on steam only to launch its full release a day after the game launched into early access. This dev is doing game design rug pulls when sales wane. Dead game, Devs never once made an actual QOL pass that makes any sense, you can loosen bolts you can't see. when you aim a vehicle part the game doesn't tell you what it is until you take it out of the vehicle. Pointing at a part doesn't highlight bolts so you have to manually sniff them out. Vehicle parts have the most incomprehensible name. Like LAD COUPE WOLD LAD ENGLAS 11V8 then when you go to look in the magazine where you buy parts they are just pictures. this is like my summer car where the bad design isn't trying to be just a funny haha meme game but instead the devs just didn't know what they were doing. And I'm not being mean, I bought this years ago with the perception that the jank was because it was new. But no. its not.
Spent 2 hours rebuilding a car. Take car for a drive. Realizes I forgot brake fluid. Smack into 2 other cars totaling my car. 10/10 Would recomend.
