For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. Hello, the game looks very good in terms of graphics and handling. What I would like is if the industries were already fixed on the map and you only had to connect them with the railway line. That would add more depth to the game. Small towns would also be interesting, where you only have to build the train station and connect them with rails to enable passenger transport. As it is now, I wonder where the passengers are supposed to come from and where they are supposed to go.
I hate to say it, because there’s clearly some potential here, but I’d probably hold off on buying Infinite Rails for now. In its current Early Access state (since June 20, 2025), it feels rough in ways that are hard to ignore; everything from the graphics to the UI and core gameplay has a dated, early-2000s vibe that hasn’t yet been meaningfully modernized. There are still immersion-breaking bugs too, like being able to casually walk your driver straight through the wall of a moving locomotive, which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. While the procedural terrain generation is a nice foundation, the absence of prebuilt industries means you’re stuck building an entire economy from scratch instead of interacting with a living world, which makes the experience feel more like a sandbox chore than a simulation. There’s promise here, but right now it feels more like a concept than a game worth paying for.

It’s a train game with track building similar to Railroads Online, but it does enough to set itself apart. It’s still in early access and currently only has three locomotives, but it already includes features that Railroads Online doesn’t, like passengers and signals. The map is basically limitless, which opens up the possibility for absolutely massive rail networks, and there’s some basic terraforming that’s planned to be expanded later. One downside is that finding the perfect starting seed can be a bit tedious, especially if you want your main station right at spawn. It’s very much a work in progress, and there isn’t a ton of content yet for people who are more into operating trains than building them. That said, if you enjoy laying track and designing railways, there’s still a lot of fun to be had. Performance-wise, it’s decent. Generating new chunks can cause some lag spikes, but since it’s built in Unity rather than Unreal, it actually runs better on my laptop than Railroads Online. The locomotives are mostly Eastern European (the ChME3 and T 211), with one British engine, the Class 08. I haven’t really tried multiplayer yet, so I can’t say much about that.
The game isn’t bad and it has quite a few interesting ideas. I think it has a lot of potential. However, since it is still in Early Access, I’m not sure what the developers are planning for the future or whether the project will continue to be developed.
⭐️ Review for Infinite Rails ⭐️ I’ve enjoyed my time with Infinite Rails and yes it is under an hour. For a Unity-based title, the visuals are solid, and the core concept of progressing from simple track layouts to more complex networks is engaging and well thought through. 👍 What’s Working Well Graphics & Presentation: Clean and effective visuals for a Unity game; track placement feels satisfying and readable. Core Concept: The freedom to build from basic lines to intricate sidings and junctions is the game’s strongest asset and clearly the foundation to build on. 🎓 Experience Context For transparency, I’ve logged thousands of hours in Train Sim Classic since 2012 and have uploaded multiple routes over the years. Route and world building is something I genuinely enjoy and spend a lot of time doing. That’s the lens I’m viewing Infinite Rails through. Right now, the game isn’t quite at the point where I could comfortably sink the same kind of long-form hours into creating massive, persistent worlds — but the potential is absolutely there. 💡 Constructive Feedback Editing View: First-person-only editing feels restrictive when planning large-scale layouts. A top-down or planning view would be a major quality-of-life improvement and would dramatically improve long-session usability. World Structure & Purpose: Games like Transport Tycoon benefit from preplaced cities, industries, and demand points on procedurally generated maps. If Infinite Rails already includes this, I couldn’t find it. If not, adding it would give world-building more direction and long-term motivation. 🐞 Bug Encountered I wasn’t able to complete the tutorial. It stalled around task 22/23 during the log cabin explanation — the prompt says “press any key to continue,” but nothing responds. Because of this, I likely missed part of the intended onboarding and had to move into solo mode to work things out manually. Bottom line: Infinite Rails has strong fundamentals and a clear vision. With improved planning tools, clearer world objectives, and a fixed tutorial flow, it could become a game I happily spend hundreds — if not thousands — of hours in.
The game has a lot of potential as a Railroader game where you build and grow your own network. Unfortunately it is not the direction of the developer. From his words: "Honestly, there are no plans for AI trains. This game is not about automation or route planning — it’s about creativity and the first-person experience". If you are a creative person who likes locomotives and want to express yourself with. That is the game is for you. I don't know anyone. If you are logistic person that like to grow from a single line into a complex network, this is not for you. It is not a game for me, I don't know anybody I would recommend it. However, I choose to leave still positive on the hope that more players would pressure the game into a better direction, for me :)
This game is good so far but it is also a work in progress which is obvious as it is Early Access at time of this review. This game is not really a train simulator in the 'realistic' sense like other games nor is it a route building game or city planner/railroad planner type game. I saw that some people pitched ideas like those to the developer but the game is not currently going down those paths. At the time of this review this game is kind of like Minecraft but the only items you can use to build are for making railways. The maps are open sandboxes and you place buildings and build the track then you place the train and transport the goods and/or people. The track laying is a little cumbersome compared to some games but not as bad as others. As of now there are not that many trains/locos to choose from and they are all diesel, no steam. Also the tracks have no way to electrify them and there are no electric trains. The trains either cannot derail on curves or it is so hard to get them to do it that it never happened to me. But the most interesting part of this game's railway building features, and why I gave it a thumbs up, is because of the signaling system. The way that signal blocks can be defined via trackside detectors is nice and it allows for signals to be set up in a semi complex manner. Like having two way single track sections. Although as of this review, it was not yet possible to set up an interlocking system combining signals and turnouts. But that might be added in. So I say go for it, but only if you are willing to stick along for the final product through development. I like to see indie games, especially in the 'simulation'/'vehicle' space, so I wanted to support the dev and if you are similar then this game is worth it. Also, I like trains, simple as.
************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Overall, the concept isn't bad and it's worth pursuing. The procedurally generated map is essentially endless. It's simply enormous. And this, unfortunately, leads to the main problem: a complete lack of optimization. The game is made in Unity, but the optimization is worse than in TSW, which is made in UE. When approaching constructed stations, the frame rate drops to 5-7 frames. It's literally a slideshow. And this is on medium settings in FHD. In flight mode, the map is drawn before your eyes, often with a severe delay. The sounds are very mediocre. Among the placeable objects, there's a severe lack of houses, farms with pastures, fields with crops, shops, etc. to somehow liven up the empty world. There are animals. Dogs, cats, and horses are good. Elephants, zebras, tigers – why bother? Elephants walking in a birch thicket look very ridiculous! Passengers have to be manually placed at stations. There's no automatic loading. Overall, the idea and concept are not bad, but the execution is terrible. I understand that this is Early Access and the game is likely being made by one person, but I can't recommend it yet. If the game is improved and brought up to standard technically, I'll change my review. For now, this is all I have.
The coupling and break system is broken. Until the fix it I can not give it a good recommendation.
