You are a captain who dares to challenge Blackbeard. What begins as a grounded story of survival and revenge draws you into a growing conflict between empires, pirate clans, and mysterious dark powers looming on the horizon. Windrose is steeped in the allure of the Age of Piracy.
Answer the call of the seas and move seamlessly between ship and shore. Naval combat is shaped by your decisions, whether you’re trading cannon fire at range or closing in for fierce boarding actions. Equip and customize your ship to suit your playstyle, from nimble ketch to versatile brig and monstrous frigate. And when the cannons go silent, claim your spoils and share a sea shanty with your crew as you sail onward.
Establish a foothold in vibrant, diverse biomes, gather resources, and build to your own taste, from simple shelters to elaborate mansions and fully developed forts. Recruit NPCs and grow your settlement to speed up harvesting and production.
This world belongs to the brave and the curious, so venture into the uncharted lands. Over 100 hand-crafted dungeons and points of interest contain endless secrets and treasures, though such rewards rarely come without risk. Trade with different factions to gain the edge you’ll need.
Hack, slash, batter, and shoot your way forward! Master a wide arsenal of melee weapons and firearms. Parry and dodge enemy attacks, chain different strikes, and keep an eye out for new gear, including sabers, rapiers, halberds, greatswords, pistols, muskets, and more.
Shape your combat style through talents and flexible loadouts with unique armor sets. Use food and potions to gain powerful buffs. Test your skills against a wide range of enemies and challenging bosses, defeat them, and claim their treasures.
Windrose is fully playable solo offline or in co-op with friends, supporting up to 8 players, with both self-hosted and dedicated servers available. Procedural generation will make each journey stand out. Please note: due to performance, especially in the late game, we recommend to play in the party up to 4 players for the optimal experience.

Reviews
An excellent game with huge potential! The graphics are impressive, and the waves and character movements feel realistic, which really adds to the atmosphere. Beyond that, it's very fun to sail and destroy ships, although it lacks the challenge of storms. I would love to see an option to expand my own fleet and deepen the ship mechanics. Additionally, base raids are missing—right now you see ships passing by your home, but they don't do anything. I would also love to see more underwater content, allowing players to dive, swim, and find new challenges beneath the surface. There are also some bugs that need fixing, such as being unable to board ships after dealing full damage and getting stuck with the building hammer. Other than that—a great game, looking forward to updates!

Hier ist die aktualisierte Version: --- ## 🏴☠️ Steam Review: Windrose **RECOMMENDED** 👍 *Playtime at review: ~30 hours* > **"An absolute gem of an Early Access game – runs like a dream and hooks you for hours!"** I’ve just clocked in about 30 hours of playtime, including a massive, uninterrupted marathon session, and I am absolutely blown away by how polished this game already is. For an Early Access title, the stability is incredible—I haven't experienced a single crash, bug, or performance hitch. ### Why you should grab this game: * **Incredible Combat & Build Variety:** I am currently running a "Plague Juggernaut" build using a heavy Halberd and a Plague Pistol. Landing those heavy attacks feels incredibly weighty, satisfying, and impactful. The build progression and stat system are deep and rewarding. * **Awesome Co-op Experience:** Playing this with friends is where the game truly shines. Building a beefy tank to stand in the frontline, holding aggro, and sustaining yourself through plague-leeching attacks while your friends back you up is pure gold. * **Solid Base Building & Progression:** The gameplay loop of establishing a coastal base, setting up production, upgrading your wharf, and crafting a proper ship to explore new islands is extremely satisfying and well-paced. * **Flawless Optimization:** Even during long sessions with tons of action on screen, the performance remains buttery smooth and stable. --- ### 🐧 Linux & Hardware Performance Note: I am playing this game on **CachyOS Linux (KDE Plasma, Wayland)** with an **AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D** and a **Radeon RX 9070 (16GB)**. To say it runs flawlessly is an understatement. If you are on Linux, use these launch options for an absolutely locked frame rate and zero input lag: `PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 ENABLE_LAYER_MESA_ANTI_LAG=1 mangohud game-performance %command%` Proton compatibility is a 10/10 here. No tweaks needed to make it work, just pure pirate action from second one. --- ### The Verdict: If you love survival, action-combat, and sailing with friends, do not let the "Early Access" tag scare you off. *Windrose* is already in a fantastic state, highly polished, and incredibly fun. **10/10 — Highly recommended!**
Just enough pull to get you past the 2 hour mark before you realize, the combat always stays bad, to get a ship you need a crew, you'll need to rescue a bunch of prisoners that are in camps no where to be found, because 99% of them have empty cells. By the time you see the likable parts of the game wont progress you at all. The combat is so bad that you can just cheat instead, build a stone wall, and basically nerf the AI... BY the time you realize its either clunky combat or cheat you played long enough you aint getting no r e f u n d.
After 60 hours of play. The game refuses to load. Can't exit the application. And end up having to restart the PC. Great immersion. Unplayable.
FUN
Don't play it, it is addictive and you will loose track of time.
As an experienced sailor, this game is great in a bunch of ways which I will get to in a second, but first let me get my one gripe out of the way... It's a pirate game, so sailing is a big part of it, but there's no *sailing* mechanic. There's boats, but they're just cars on water. You don't need wind, just point, shoot, turn, shoot somewhere else. I hope it's coming in an update. It would make it much more complex but difficulty settings could adjust how complex it needs to be - you could keep the 'boats on water' settings for easy. It would add so much more depth so you can't just point and shoot where you want, you need to think about wind, but you can also get upwind of your enemy so you have control over the engagement. With that said, it's not a sailing sim, and the number of enemies means you're not thinking too much about that while fighting. There's a lot going on firing broadsides at enemies on both sides usually, so maybe adding sailing mechanics would be too much. Outside of that - the boats look great and the sails flap around realistically (if you ignore the wind). The ocean heaves, you cut through smaller waves and climb over big rollers. I've never played a game that *felt* so much like ocean sailing... again if you ignore the wind. Day/night mechanics, sunset and sunrise visuals, and weather are all very well done, very beautiful and immersive. Masts silhouetted against a cloudy sunset, all of that sort of thing. Also, please please please press B while sailing, and have the crew sing sea shanties recorded with a choir of amazing sounding baritones. It's just *chef's kiss*. When you're not sailing it's like Conan Exiles with more of a nautical thing... and less nudity lol. More swashbuckling, less swinging d___s. Combat is kind of simple but kind of challenging, even frustrating - you do have to master certain patterns, and the same pattern doesn't work for all enemies or all weapons. There's also a parry mechanic I haven't figured out yet. There's good content so far, I'm 24 hours in just in the starting area figuring things out and having a good time. I read somewhere else there's an estimated 80h of content so far and that seems about right - more if you just like sailing and firing cannons at things.
