Berlin 1933. “Adolf Hitler is chancellor!” We all know the consequences this message bore. Unspeakable horrors and suffering would sweep across the world. Few would stand and fight the monstrosity that was the German Reich. Will you? Lead an underground resistance group Through the Darkest of Times.

About
Dark times mean fear and risks. The risk of being caught by patrolling National Socialists, who are looking for people who publicly stand against their point of view. The risk of being beaten up or even killed by the German military because we‘re opposing the regime. The risk of losing everything, including our loved ones. This is how we live. This is how we try to survive through the darkest of times.

You are the leader of a small resistance group in 1933’s Berlin, of ordinary people, from Jews to Catholics and Communists to Patriots who simply can’t stand aside. Your goal is to deal with small blows to the regime – dropping leaflets to spread awareness about what the Nazis are really up to among the people, painting messages on walls, sabotaging, gathering information, and recruiting more followers. And all of that while staying undercover – if the regime’s forces learn about your group, the life of each member is in grave danger.

Through the Darkest of Times is a historical resistance strategy game, focusing on conveying the somber mood of the period and the very real struggles of average people living in the 3rd Reich. Historical accuracy means that your small group of resistance fighters will not change the outcome of the war, nor will you prevent all of the Nazi’s atrocities, but you can certainly do everything in your power to save as many lives as you can and oppose the fascist system wherever possible.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I liked the horrible representation of the crimes of the third reich. All neo-nazis should play thus
A well written and enjoyable historical strategy game that forces you to make difficult choices while immersing you in the resistance to Nazi rule. The challenge comes from the seemingly impossible decisions in dangerous and desperate situations. Although the theme is obviously dark the game contains a message of hope and perseverance. The moving story of the struggle against authoritarian nationalism, fascism and dehumanisation is VERY relevant today with the increasing rise of the Far Right. This game is essential for teenagers and adults alike and could even be used as an educational tool.
This game reminds me a lot of Dispatch, with the way you have to choose each characters and what they can do based on their skills and beliefs etc. Personally for me, this has the much added bonus of being themed around WWII as I have a huge interest in the topic, and this is a very fun way to immerse yourself in what may have been the reality of some of those fighting with the resistance during this time. Gameplay mechanics are very simple and easy to understand, the artstyle is very pleasing with its simplicity, and there is something about the sounds and music that just hit the right spot for me. In terms of story telling, I find this to be the best component breaking each of the acts into key points throughout the time before, during, and after the war.
Every HOI4 players should be required to play this first
Steam needs neutral reviews badly. I love this game's mechanics. Limited windows to act against the regime, lots of reactions for your actions, real history for each character, the game feels heavy. But the art is gross, there's some bad translations and random bugs like accidently clicking skipping whole cutscenes.
