For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. While it boasts some fun movement and occasionally breaks the pacing up with some puzzles, Akimbot is sadly a very messy title and not what I expected being sold on the "Indie Ratchet & Clank" premise. The game's Clank counterpart is a pretty annoying Numbuh 2 sounding fella who I almost wanted to mute the game several times whenever he was yapping. The game that sells itself as an indie R&C is... not really super R&C styled in gameplay at all. It has four guns + a special weapon, the latter being where you spend your bolt equivalent to upgrade. I feel pretty bummed, as I expected the four weapons would level and everything, but this was not the case. Akimbot really seems to be lacking in sauce, some real hook to its gameplay aside from the pretty satisfying movement. Level design was passable, though some come across as excessively padded, like the level where you meet The Processor. It's also paired with gameplay switches that, while some provide fun, can also drag. The spaceship sections play like those in Tools of Destruction and do provide some simple, but satisfying shooting while you fly about. But the game sorely underutilizes Shipset in some spots. He has sections where you play Subway Surfers, Flappy Bird, a 2D fighting thing. It's all darts to a dartboard for ideas, and none particularly gel well. While not the weakest of its links, the performance also left a lot to be desired. Despite being on an SSD and settings cranked to medium, Akimbot didn't exactly run smoothly. Unreal Engine 5 is a fickle mistress, and among the few singleplayer experiences I've played, only a demo of a game has ran decently smoothly. And it's odd, since Akimbot visually doesn't seem too demanding, but it has some serviceable graphics and a pretty fun art style. Writing is the weakest link of the game. As said before, Shipset is really annoying, but Exe feels like if you put Jak 2's Jak and 2002 Ratchet into a blender. Both of those characters I ended up liking in their respective games, but here the blend of it in Exe ends up coming across as really generic. It's the kind of writing where you can sort of get what they're aiming for, but it comes across as more bland and trying too hard to be funny. The "LOL XD SO RANDOM" humor makes this feel like a project from the 2010s that was sent a decade into the future. Akimbot is overall not an awful game, though it is lacking in that oomph. I'm glad Evil Raptor seems to have rebounded with the success of Far Far West being enjoyed, but I wouldn't mind if they tried their hand at another singleplayer effort. Akimbot has a pretty solid movement base and it was pretty fresh seeing some of the puzzles it had on offer. Though at least one of those was somewhat ruined by the fact Shipset wouldn't shut up and just flat out told you the solution. If you're looking for a 3D indie platformer and see it on a deep discount like it is now, Akimbot is worth a shot. It's not a terrible game despite some wonky level decisions and its humor and story not hitting the marks. Otherwise, go play the PS2 classics that inspired it.

The game overall felt whelming in its okayness, some good and some bad. At 20 euros or equivalent thereof I'd find it just a little hard to justify purchase, but I got it for 3 euro so in that regard I got away like a bandit. As someone that grew up playing Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank on the PS2, this game is pure nostalgiabomb straight into the veins in the way it switches up into minigames/gamemodes. Can you believe it? In the year of our lord, 2026, TURRET SECTIONS?! Shipset proved a bit grating in his over-yappiness, and I feel at times the game threw too much enemies all at once that it was basically impossible to go by without taking some damage. But it is quite generous in repairbots and in health regeneration after not taking damage for a few seconds, so it wasn't so bad. Another weakness of the game is probably the Non-Special Weapons, when I saw there was a weapon shop I thought all of those would end up being part of my usual weapon selection as I went through the game. But no, you can only have one of them selected at a time, and the regular weapons are extremely plain and disappointingly can't get any upgrades slapped onto them. That and I lucked out picking the funny blue energy rifle as my special weapon, and that thing carried me pretty hard throughout the game in the spots where it got a bit rough. Might as well have called it "Problem Dissolverizer 3000" or something. Another disappointment of mine was in the hidden dataslates, I was kinda hoping to find more lore about the setting itself, like what the deal was with the Algorithm, Exe's past, or the like. The little random stories are cute and all, but I honestly stopped bothering to find them after a while because they just weren't interesting things to be on the lookout for for me. I got 9 hours of okay gameplay, a ton of straight nostalgia injected in me, and for 3 euros that was absolutely a steal. I might gift the game to a few friends if I see it on sale again, and kinda regret I only had time to gift it to one buddy this time around. I'd definitely look forward to a sequel, as this game felt like a solid start of something that could be great one day, as this game felt just a little undercooked in gameplay and worldbuilding elements.
_____________8__88_____8 ____________88_8__8_____8 ___________888_____88___88888 __________8888______88_8____88 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______8_______8 _________8888_____8_______8 __________88888____8______8 ___________8888888______8 __888_________88888_8 8888888________88_____ _8888888_______8_____ __888888_______88_____ ___88_____8_____8_____ ____8______8____8_____8_88 _______8888_8__88_8_88888 _____888888_8_88__8888888 ____8888888__88______88888 ____88888_____8_________888 ____88_________8__________8 _____8_________8_____ _______________8_____ ____________8_8_____ _____________88_8_____ ______________88_____ ______________8_____
A wonderful game that feels reminiscent of gen-7 titles like Jak & Daxter. The gameplay is decently fun and challenging with each level offering something unique and different along with a steadily building arsenal and a number of different gameplay types to spice things up. One thing that's VERY different from other action-platformers is how this is the most linear game that I have ever played. There is no redoing a level, there are no hub worlds, there is only FORWARD. Not a complaint, as this plays to the game's strengths, it's just very unique. Overall, I can't wait to see what else these devs come up with! I'm in a dire need of more platformer-shooters like Akimbot
It's insane how little attention this game has gotten, at least from Ratchet and Clank (R&C) fans or fans of any similiar adventure games. You could not get a closer game on PC to R&C than this except the one R&C game that is on Steam. However this game is way cheaper and gets bigger discounts. Obviously it's made by a smaller studio and therefore not at to the same standard as R&C but it's not too far behind, at least if you compare this as a first game to earlier R&C games and even possibly the latest ones. Plays really well, has the buddy adventure game energy, setting and enemies, game play variety with vehicle combat, spaceship combat, short, often one-off mini games, etc. The voice acting is good. The dialogue can be a bit cringe, millenial humor but it can also be funny or self-aware at times. The are very faults I can give it and they are mostly small. First is that the space combat is pretty bland and you can only engage with some mechanics of it when the game lets you, kinda like QTE's. Secondly is you get special weapons you purchase and upgrade beyond the ones given through the story but can only equip one at a time and the opportunities to swap between are very few so you will probably find one you like and stick to it. Lastly, some areas have big performance drops but these are usually short lived. All-in-all a great R&C like game and generally very fun adventure game!
TLDR: couldn't even pass the 1 hour mark, not for me I never leave reviews but I will since this is a pretty small game -------------------------------------------------------- good things: graphics are great, love it weapon design + sound effects are great too -------------------------------------------------------- but many things were unbearable to *me*: 1. characters: - a. Exe sounds too much like he's a condescending anime main character, saying "Tch" every two seconds gets annoying and he sounds way too cocky - b. Shipset's voice reminds me of someone trying to mimic Claptrap, even if it's a big inspiration for him, it's just not fun to listen to - c. what seems to be the big villain of the game seems too niche -------------------------------------------------------- gameplay: - a. yes this is a platformer game, but the game doesn't seem to offer much to explore or grind for (maybe platformer games are just like that, I don't really know) - b. small thing, but the crosshair not being in the middle of the screen is kind of not fun -c. the shop has little to nothing to look forward to or make you grind for anything again, this could just be the genre of the game, but the gameplay loop is just not fun. I'm trying hard to not use the word "boring", but it just is 🙁 but I'm looking forward to playing the other two games from this studio 👍
This game is a bit tough to recommend. It is not perfect, has flaws, it might not be everyone's cup of tea... so I will go into some non-spoiler details and you decide for yourself. - Writing: Definitely not getting any awards for that here, the writing is incredibly cliche, to the point that I was left and right predicting everything about the game. But it's serviceable and does its job of giving us an excuse fo game to happen - Dialogue/voice acting: Quite easily the WORST part about the game in my opinion. Dialogue is quite corny, Exe (the main char) is so edgy I was calling him "Shadow the Hedgehog from Wish", Shipset (your companion) and Evilware (antagonist) have extremely irritating high-pitched strident voices that are pretty annoying, but it gets even worse for Shipset because he's always with you making "haha funny" quips... it is grating, to say the least. - Gameplay (SHOOTING): It is quite fun, actually! At the start I thought the game was gonna be pretty casual with its difficulty and super easy and boring because of that, but as you keep going and get more weapons and stuff to do, things start getting more frenetic and quite enjoyable to play. Is it something really difficult? No, not really, but it does get fun. - Gameplay (EXPLORATION): I was very disappointed with this part of the game. The maps are quite linear, there's not much mystery to them. Yeah, there are hidden collectibles in the levels but like... you don't really get anything special from collecting them besides achievements. They could have given the player cosmetics or extra money for exploring, there's not much incentive to explore - Pacing: It is... weird. At the start of the game, it feels quite slow, but as things ramp up towards the middle-to-end segments, things keep changing often enough to not feel boring. However, at the same time, some segments go on for a bit too long? It feels like some bits go on for a bit too long, especially the driving sections. Like, there's just too many autoscroller segments, and if you're not a fan of that, then you're gonna be quite irritated by this game. I was curious enough to play through them and see what the game had in store since I loved the devs' other two games, though. - Graphics: The game, just like its predecessor (Pumpkin Jack) is quite beautiful and has some gorgeous sceneries. Some of the areas in the game are quite generic, but some of them - especially towards the end of the game - are quite inspired and I wish I could see more games have moments like that. - Soundtrack: Well... Pumpkin Jack had an amazing soundtrack, so this game was bound to have one as well. Not much to comment about it, it is quite fun - Verdict: Based on everything I've said, if I were to give it a grade from 0 (really bad) to 10 (really good), I think this would be a 6 at most. It's above average, you can very much see the effort put in by the devs... and despite its many flaws, it was a fun game to play through with some very fun setpieces to traverse. Is it going to be good for everyone? No, and maybe wait on a sale for it if you feel unsure about getting it but still wanna give it a try and support indie devs. But the fun factor is definitely in here, and I think this is what this dev team is really good at: Being completely honest and earnest about their endeavor of just making a plain fun game, flawed or not. This was the case with Pumpkin Jack, this is the case for this one, and it's the same for Far Far West (their third and most current game... which Akimbot feels at times like it was a tech demo for that, you can see that they took what worked in here and used it in that game).
☆_Review in deutsch & english!_☆

Top. ---------------------------------------------------
Akimbot is a masterpiece!
In Akimbot, you play as a robot saving the universe from destruction alongside your partner. The characters are all authentic and feature perfect voice acting. The drone could easily be Claptrap from Borderlands—simply brilliant and funny. The game offers great variety, you get to man turrets, pilot a tank, and fight on the battlefield with various weapons. The controls are excellent and feel really good. The Ultra HD graphics are crisp and stunningly sharp. The levels are highly detailed—just great. The sound and music within the levels are fantastic. The achievements aren't difficult and are easily attainable. The game offers a great many save points, making it faster to unlock any achievements you might have missed. Perfect. I bought the game on sale for €2.99. I highly recommend this game! Top.
Reminiscent of Ratchet and Clank mixed with Halo and a sidekick similar to Claptrap from Borderlands. Generic story, fun platforming, and simple enough for an enjoyable 2 days of playing it and getting all achievements. Played on Steam Deck, and the frame rate is all over the place in certain parts of the game. Ran mostly around 45 fps. Decreased render in-game options to 60%-70% for most of the game. It could definitely use an optimization pass to make it run better.
