The Gunk is an action-adventure game in which you play as Rani, part of our duo of gritty space haulers. As they’re struggling to bring in funds, they chance upon an untouched planet brimming with life. They came in search of valuable resources, and it looks like they’ve hit the jackpot…

A very rough gem, that’s the simplest way I can say about this game. If you want a casual game where you vacuum up stuff + doing some platforming then this is it cuz that’s all you will do. Now, it may only do those two things, but it does them well. Vacuum mechanic is fluid, movement too, so while the core gameplay might revolve around two things, those two things are enjoyable. For the vacuum part, you will use your mechanical arm to suck up not just the gunk but also materials for upgrades. You can unlock upgrades as you scan various things and here lays the first problem, finding out what you can actually scan. The are two ways, you can vacuum around and a blue icon will be displayed over an object (which is usually a plant) or a red one will display if you already scanned that object, the other way is just to run around with scan on and point at things you might think they are scan-able. Not much to say about platforming, the movement is fluid. As for the puzzles, some are hit or miss. The good side of the puzzles is that they are simple and easy. The bad side (of some) is the fact that you need to figure out where the heck is the item you need to toss/pull in order to complete it. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending how you look at it) the levels are pretty linear and it’s hard to get lost. But areas do have some side paths you can take, and at the end of those all you will find is just materials, no extra collectibles or anything special. As for the story, well, for me it felt incomplete. There is just 1 or 2 dialogue lines which explain where the gunk comes from but not why it infected or made the creatures which attack you, or going deep into why and how the villain turned the whole planet into what it is, not even background stories for the characters, all you know about them is that they are on this planet because of a debt. The dialogues do not get much interesting either, most of the time revolving around the main character going “Wow this planet is so beautiful, I need to explore more” and the other character “Watch out, do not get hurt!”, they constantly bicker with each other through the radio, it gets so annoying. So, in the end, it is a simple, casual game. It has two main things going for it and it does them well. Despite looking open world, the game is linear with some side paths to grab extra mats. Puzzles are simple too but sometimes can be annoying by not explaining some facts (such as: you can shoot down certain seeds/pods and explosive pods to drop them), but once you figure out the different interactions, they do become easy to solve. Story feels incomplete (or maybe they wanted to keep it simple by not dwelling too much in it), dialogue gets annoying. Overall, I give the game a 6/10, I think it is just right, you might give it more if you do want a simple to learn game, heck you can play this one with barely any tutorial. But I really do not see it as a 25$ game. PS. as an end tip: grab the upgrade Power Pulse to stunt creatures, it makes the end much more easy.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Fun game. Some parts require you to think for a bit. Works on CachyOS and Steam Deck without any extra configs.
It's an amazing little journey, I really like playing it to relax after a long day. It's not revolutionary and definitely not a challenge, but everything it does feels great. Also, the art style is really charming, I wish more games were like this.
Très sympa
I found this to be a really charming game. At first, I thought it is one of those cleanup games, and in many ways it is, but there is a narrative and an objective and levels that are more like connected hubs. The game is mechanically simple, zero interface, and it is just you and your partner chatting over comms as you unravel the mysteries of the world. At more or less four hours, I think it does not overstay its welcome. Cleaning up the gunk really is satisfying, and I actually did like the banter, character design, and graphics.
Fun, rewarding, and not too punishing The Gunk is easily a favorite for me. If Split Fiction and Fern Gully had a baby, it's this game. The writing is well done and the narrative is easy to follow enough that I would absolutely recommend the game to my 10 year old nephew. I'm not sure if i'll go back to 100% the game but it was a really fun way to spend a day.
The Gunk is a decent game to say at least. Not too memorable but not terrible either. Just overall mid. I liked the character dialogues between Rani and Becks, I liked the music fitting with each place on the map but the best part of this game is how beautiful the planet looks. I have one HUGE complaint and two problems I've encountered while playing the game. The first issue is a glitch that will make the lift platforms invisible, which made me a bit scared thinking I would fall off but they get back to normal if you move away from them just a little and one technical problem with the last lift when we reach the Gardener, it has moments when it will drops my frames below 20. But the ONLY actual issue with the game is the resources, specifically the metal. Why is metal so rare in the game. Compared to the alien, organic and fiber, metal is excruciatingly difficult to find and it doesn't help that the upgrades are expensive too, so I would have loved to see these changes made (0 chances to happen atp but just to mention them): either reduce the upgrade material costs since when we finish the game we still have some material left, except metal of course, OR put metal in other, more visible places to find. I know this game kinda encourages exploration but mindlessly looking for materials for an useless upgrade is completely redundant. 6-7/10 (bonus 1 point for the aesthetic of the planet). If it wasn't for the metal issue I would have gave it a straight 7, but staying 1 hour more just for metal made me upset a little. Again, pretty mid game. Okay to check it out but be aware of the things mentioned above.
i wouldnt say action-adventure more like chill-adventure, nothing special and puzzles were easy. game play kinda boring but super chill game. 6.5/10
