A medieval sandbox. Serve a king, rule your own fief, or raise a claimant to the throne. Marry, scheme, rebel, claim a crown, or just watch. Every NPC in this world lives by the same rules you do, driving it toward collapse. Stopping it is your task; the higher you rise, the more ways you have.

About

You begin as a nameless wanderer. What you become is up to you.
Serve. Earn renown and enter the service of a kingdom (leading a company or a band of brigands? bring them with you). Prove yourself in its wars and rise through the ranks: the higher your rank, the more soldiers you command. Your lord will hand you orders, some of them unreasonable. Gain vassals of your own, and you can hand those orders down.
Rule. Distinguish yourself and receive a fief. Collect its taxes, develop its farms and trade, and invest in the libraries and institutions that keep its people content, or simply let it rot while you chase glory elsewhere. Grow strong enough as a lord of the realm, and you can raise your banner against your king and found a kingdom of your own.
Devote. Or claim nothing for yourself. Find someone worth believing in and spend your life raising them to a throne.
Love. Court the people you grow close to. Marriage brings children. They're born into your nation and your faction, carrying your bloodline into the next generation.
Watch. Or simply live, and watch history happen. The world does not wait for you.

Armies march on their stomachs. A long campaign needs porters as well as soldiers, and a war that drags on will drain your granaries before it drains your enemy's.
Prolonged war devastates the land. Fields go untended and public order breaks down. Run short on supplies and manpower, and rival kingdoms will swallow you whole. Recovery is slow, deliberate work: repair the walls, restore order, invest in farms and trade.

Become king, and the kingdom answers to you alone: set the crown's research, grant or strip the fiefs of your vassals, forge alliances, declare wars.
Research does not stand still. Wars that begin with swords and bows end in gunpowder, firearms, cannon wagons, and flying battleships. When the age of knights ends, you decide whether to lead the new age or refuse it.

Every rumor in this world travels through conversation, and you can start one. Praise an ally to strengthen your faction. Repair your standing with resentful vassals. Whisper about a rival king to his own nobles and watch his realm split. Or broker peace between two crowns before the war starts at all.
Information moves the same way. Whoever you are hunting, whatever you are looking for, the trail starts with a drink in a tavern.

Everything above is also true for every NPC in the world. They earn renown, take service, win fiefs, found factions, marry, and rebel, whether you are watching or not. But not everyone here wants a crown. Each is chasing a goal of their own: some want power, others just want their nation, or their people, to endure.
Relationships work the same way too. Grow close to someone, and their friends warm to you while their enemies mark you as one of them. This web binds NPCs to each other just as it binds them to you.
And death is never the end of a story. Kill someone in battle and their family and closest friends will remember exactly who did it. Settle that vendetta with another death, and it doesn't end there: it becomes someone else's grudge to carry. The feud that ends your campaign may be several deaths removed from the one that started it, between people who never met.

You are the last of the long-lived. With his dying breath, the old man who raised you gave you your purpose: watch history, and keep it from ending. As wars drag on and grudges accumulate between nations and people, the world's Collapse advances. Let it reach its limit, and history itself ends.
The task itself never changes, whatever you choose to do with your life. What grows as you rise, as a vassal lord, a king, or the power behind one, is how much you can actually do about it: end wars through diplomacy, narrow the gap between your richest fiefs and your poorest, crush the warmongers by force, or quietly turn old enemies into friends. A world with full granaries, safe roads, libraries, and parliaments grows tolerant, and tolerance slows the Collapse.
The dilemma is that living in this world feeds it. The revenge you are owed advances the Collapse. The war that wins you a crown advances it faster. Every character around you is pursuing their own ends inside the same constraint, and their choices weigh as much as yours.

At the center of this world stands the Obelisk: a vast structure said to have once held limitless knowledge. What it is, and what it has to do with the Collapse, is yours to find out.

There is no predetermined scenario in this game.
The "history that is observed" through countless events becomes a story that is yours alone.
"My spouse died in battle. I went to war to avenge them, and by the end of my revenge, the world had collapsed."
"I never took a crown. I spent twenty years as the right hand of an NPC I believed in, and together we unified the continent."
"I executed every prisoner from every kingdom I conquered. Their families remembered. The declarations of vengeance never stopped coming."
These are all one-of-a-kind stories experienced by real players.
A different history unfolds every playthrough, leaving you thinking "I want to try this differently next time" even after dozens of hours.

The End of History doesn't really deserve all the negative reviews in my opinion. There are some bugs, yes. For example, curently there are several popups when an NPC dies and he doesn't actually seem to die. Or you can abuse the tutorial battles to level up your character to mid-strength in combat skills (and even further if you can stand grinding for longer). I also ran into an untested update already which does not exactly inspire confidence. However, the game is far from being unplayable and the bugs did not dominate my experience. If there are weak points then those are rather the limited actions our hero can perform and the combat system. There are a lot of fun combat skills but the controls are terribly unintuitive (mouse and keyboard for me). It's difficult to spot whether a foe attacks you or not (too much blurring and colourful animations). This makes blocking difficult but blocking is king due to its timed parry stun feature. When you attack you can only change the direction of your attacks again when you pause for a second. This is quite irritating since enemies move around all the time. If you target/focus an enemy to make aiming easier, pray to god that you get the right one. Usually you don't and then you have to cycle through most of the enemies for just one kill (rinse and repeat). In early game your character must carry the team, so this is quite unfortunate. However, with the right skills and equipment it's still possible to mop the floor with the enemy without too much hassle. It's just a bit of a tedious experience and frustrating when you die to the character behaving stupidly again. All the while you also have to keep an eye on what the rest of your troops are doing. A bit of a multi-tasking hell. That doesn't mean that the battle system cannot be fun though. It is quite satisfactory to win against a stronger opponent through clever usage of skills, equipment, etc. The other negative thing I mentioned are the limited number of things the player character can initially do. Basically you travel from town to town via roads, buy and sell merchandise, visit the local guild for quests (usually a waste of time) and then you visit the tavern which helps you manage relationships with all the NPCs. Straying from the roads is pointless because you can only run on roads and the wilderness is just decoration (no treasures, no hunting, no shortcuts, etc.). This too is a bit deceptive though. The game unfolds through its randomness. The basic loop isn't very interesting in itself but as you befriend characters and as random events shape the world more layers are added to the story of your own character. It's difficult to explain but it's a bit of a painting taking shape the longer you work on it, I guess. At first you are a simple wanderer, exploring the land, making a bit of coin, finding a wife or husband (hint: better do it early or the few good ones are taken). You could be a bandit or a trader and when you decide that you are ready to serve a country things open up further. You will receive orders to fulfil and can now perform new actions (e.g. raising several town stats). Which one do you join? Maybe you like the usurper realm Erdelein this time or maybe you had some memorable experiences with a specific character that make you a pick a side (by the way: there are no very few saints here which is actually good because it provides multiple reasons to choose one side over another - then again, the game is also full of psychopath NPCs which is a bit over the top too). When you eventually found your own faction and split off the game turns more into a management experience than a simple traveler's story. It cannot really be avoided though (unless you enjoy being very limited). All the while interesting things can happen (X killed the wife of Y and now Y swears revenge, kings die, new factions are formed, ...) and NPCs will say things depending on their traits and relations to others, including you. New characters are born, potentially even your own children. Your character may outlive everyone though as the person who shapes the future ("long-lived"). And whatever you do, there is always the doom clock ticking. The more people are divided and hate each other, the more damage the people and the economy take, the sooner the end will come. That is why you must also try to balance your actions out a bit. The clock can also be turned back. Constantly waging war will only bring you ruin. So, the game ends up having more facets than it seems at first. If you pay full price you are paying a bit too much in my opinion though. The game isn't bad but for the full price I expect some more features. I got my copy on sale and I'm fine with the outcome. It's probably one of those games where dumping a few dozens of hours seems to be a given.

This game is so broken. I love the idea, But the combat is S#17 very sluggish and and hard to follow/move and hit. The quests the lord tells you to accomplish you accomplish it but then it says you failed. Like it said get the walls to 100 for X location you do that. You get it to 200 because you got the option to keep going. Then it says you failed. Okay next time ill just do the minimum. You do the minimum 100 you failed. (EDIT) you need to talk to the crown of the town and hit the report button to complete the quest. FIX YOUR GAME!!! Then ill change my review
I was enjoying the game for what it is. An incomplete cousin of bannerlord, and a few other games we have played/enjoyed in the past. It is okay if you enjoy these types of games and while it is a bit expensive for what it currently offers I figured I'd still try it out. The one thing that surprised me was seeing "Your device is out of memory" Now that sent me. I mean you can probably see why if you look at my specs. It was using 94.5% of my entire RAM at one point and caused a system lock for a bit. Bottom line? Buy it if A: you have nothing better to play right now to scratch that itch, or B: buy it because you just want to try it. Just know that it will cause your PC to explode if you try to run it at 60FPS or above. I locked it to 30 so my system wouldn't go nuts trying to stay cool.
First off, this games has its issues. There are a lot of things that could be done better ie the combat, the tutorials, just explaining how some of the mechanics work that are not really explained well. But I think the game is still really enjoyable. It can be really hard in the early game when you are weak and don't know what your doing but once you get established and learn the game a lot of things are done well. The biggest thing is that once you are a leader you don't always have to micro manage your vassals. They will do things without you asking them that help your country. They don't always do what you want at all times but I was always really happy when they did. like repairing walls after a war or restoring order when it gets low. You do have to pay them to do it but once you are at that stage you should have a good amount of money. All in all its a good E A game at the moment and the devs are making updates.
has potential but the price point to content/bugs ratio is far too high. get it on a deep sale or wait 6 months to a year for further development. Devi score 4/10 ++ the story triggers are pretty decent. + very much a dupe of M&B if you like that game you'll like this one, it follows the same path progression: your no one, warrior, join or create faction, join or create a country,****spoiler**** find the 7 keys to halt the end of the world. -------- its an EA game and bugs are to be expected, but at such a high cost the game should have more to offer, and be a bit more polished: the character creator is portrait only, no VA on the MC, it has game breaking bugs, for now there is nothing that sets this game apart from M&B but its aesthetic. the combat is fairly different but not in a positive way. for almost $30.00 this is highway robbery.
