Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 25: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.89/day in the week to Aug 4 → 3/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

The story is much more sparse than I was hoping it would be, and not as fleshed out as much as I wished. It just goes from minor story setpiece with a tiny bit of dialogue to action sequence where there is basically no story occuring until the boss sometimes. The characters are frankly mostly devoid of personality, and I wish they were more unique and involved but that would require there to be more story presented in the game. The designers really had no good idea of what they were doing with the combat in this game, it's awkward and clunky and not balanced well at all - attempting to be it's own thing in a sea of much better implementations and ideas. It's not a soulslike at all, and it's honestly quite boring for the action game it's trying to be. The loot is ridiculous. The game floods you with items, almost all entirely useless and destined to be dismantled into other trash, offering minor bonuses you can completely ignore in a normal playthrough. Worst of all, the game speed is tied to framerate. If you cannot maintain a steady 30 or 60 FPS, the game will literally slow down as your FPS drops, if it drops enough the game becomes essentially unplayable when it normally wouldn't. It's TERRIBLY optimized and some mid-game and later areas can cause significant performance issues when earlier ones ran fine. Cutscenes change your graphics to high settings and suffer from significant peformance issues that may not be present otherwise because of this. It's not a terrible game overall, but outside of wanting more final fantasy in your life I can't see why anyone would want to suffer through this game.

You follow Jack Garland, a man consumed by a single goal to kill Chaos. Alongside his companions, he journeys through familiar locations inspired by the original game. While the storytelling can feel disjointed at times, the underlying narrative is surprisingly compelling. Themes of identity, memory, and fate are woven into a time-loop structure that fits neatly into Final Fantasy’s mythos. The final act in particular reframes much of what came before, delivering a payoff that will resonate strongly with fans of the original title.
General Gameplay
Stranger of Paradise is first and foremost an action RPG that prioritizes momentum and aggression. Combat is not about button mashing it demands awareness, positioning, and proper use of mechanics like Soul Shield, MP management, and job switching. Players can equip two jobs simultaneously and swap between them in real time, encouraging constant experimentation. Progression feels rewarding thanks to job mastery, passive bonuses, and the ability to carry learned skills across different builds. Later on, the ability to modify special effects on gear gives players meaningful control over their builds, moving the game beyond pure RNG. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3623418583
Combat System
Combat is where Stranger of Paradise truly shines. Encounters are fast, brutal, and satisfying, especially once you understand enemy patterns and how to exploit break gauges efficiently. Boss fights often demand multiple attempts not due to unfair difficulty, but because they push you to refine your loadout, abilities, and strategy. Breaking an enemy’s gauge and finishing them with a Soul Burst never gets old. It’s visceral, stylish, and rewarding, reinforcing the game’s high-risk, high-reward design philosophy.
Technical Performance
Performance can be inconsistent depending on hardware and settings. Frame drops and stutters may occur, though adjusting resolution and display mode can significantly improve stability. Despite these issues, core gameplay remains solid, and the technical shortcomings rarely undermine the overall enjoyment for players willing to tweak settings.
Overall Verdict
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is a chaotic, experimental title that succeeds by taking risks. It’s not a traditional Final Fantasy, and it doesn’t try to be. Instead, it delivers a unique action-driven experience that rewards skill, experimentation, and persistence. If you’re open to a different take on Final Fantasy this is a journey worth taking.
When I booted this game up, I was immediately drawn in by the combat. It's really fun. The job system? Fantastic and the best it's been since FF Tactics which is a game I absolutely love. The story though. ♥♥♥♥♥♥. At first it's genuinely intriguing, I had tears in my eyes watching Jack demand to fight Chaos, constantly restate his intention to kill Chaos and ignore anything any other character says if it doesn't relate to Chaos. However, the game starts to lose it's charm quite quickly. After a while it feels like Jack's autistic rambling about Chaos inhibits the other characters from being likeable? Like he's the one performance in a movie that makes the whole thing suck. He's like Rebel Wilson, incredibly one note and genuinely unlikeable in large doses. The fact that the other characters don't tell him to shut the hell up at any point makes them cowards. This, combined with the lack of enemy variety and mission variety and the ridiculous amount of loot management makes this game feel like a slog, even though at it's core it has everything needed to be a fun action title like FF16. 3/10
