Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 322.75/day in the week to Jul 15 → 6.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

AS A RE-RELEASE: This version of the game is fine. Upon release it was a bit shoddy and lacked options, and you can still make the game look much prettier for free through emulation. Konami's unwillingness to update this PS1 game just makes the technical leap between it and MGS2HD (and now MGS Delta) all the more jarring. However, meaningful improvements have been made to it, to the point that I can now confidently say this version is worth its (sale) price for the convenience, achievements, virtual Master Book and Screenplay, and the included Integral and VR Missions. AS A GAME: Metal Gear Solid is a classic for a reason. Though it may no longer be the most technically impressive game ever made, it still achieves an immediate cinematic quality most modern games with the label don't, which it uses to construct a narrative about nukes and fatherhood that weaves together every member of its ensemble cast. The low-poly character models and environments are non-issues -- even charming in their efficacy when paired with its vibrant color palettes and hauntingly atmospheric droning synths. Though many would prefer to do away with them, the technical limitations inform the game's artistry -- many games have copied the Codec, but Shinkawa's pixelated sprites are what make the visual memorable. Fixed camera angles are considered obsolete now, but they are more literally cinematic in crafting the player experience than any player-controlled camera. It's historically impressive for a game of its era to have as much voiced dialogue as it does, but what makes it timeless is the fact that it's all so good. MGS1 is full of all the long exposition dumps Kojima is known for, but there's a more natural, less clunky localization and delivery in this game than its sequels. In particular, Greg Eagles as Gray Fox and Cam Clarke as Liquid make every line iconic, and this is the best that David Hayter's Snake ever sounded. Even the stealth and gunplay being mechanically primitive compared to later games is less of a flaw and more just a difference in philosophy -- because it's so straightforward, MGS1 is a much faster-paced (borderline boss-rush on replays), arcade-y experience. If there is any part of the game that actually has aged, it's that some of the controls are unwieldy, but it's really not hard to adjust to by meeting the game on its own terms as predominantly top-down.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 31: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

25+ years old game and still great
At first, it was just a game. Then, it became one of my favorite series. Now, after all these years, I am certain that MGS is to me what Final Fantasy is to others. I just know that the moment I boot up the game, tie my bandana, and change my name to David for the next 5-6 hours, I am going to have an unforgettable time. If you haven't played it yet... just do it. Then move on to 2... 3... 4... Revengeance... PW... 5... Delta... and you'll find yourself waking up a few months later, sneaking around your own house inside a cardboard box, making sure the security cameras don't spot you.
A pretty... solid game, heh. It's... pretty good, heh. Such a lust... for gaming, heh.
The gameplay is dated, sure, but everything else stands the test of time. I recommend it.
Holds up really well for a PS1 game. Gameplay is still good only downside is that the game is locked at 30 FPS. Hopefully the Best is Yet to come from the Master Collection
huh? just a box
