Hypnospace Outlaw

very good game.

An incredibly peculiar game. Most definitely not for everyone, but certainly one for me. You are thrown into the fictional equivalent of our late 90s Internet. The big difference is that users are experiencing it while they are sleeping, using a HypnoSpace headband connected to a PC. Users can pick from multiple zones for different topics and create their own pages, filling the HypnoSpace with life. The way this is portayed is absolutely incredible. Sooo much charme and love, so many details, so much to discover. From web pages plastered with horribly cheesy pixelart and glittery GIFs to music so heavily compressed you can almost taste the crunchiness, users with barely any grasp of this new technology creating a complete mess of a web page filled with typos, and so much more. I cannot fathom the vast amount of creativity and work this must have needed. You take on the role of an enforcer, think of it like a forum moderator, searching for anything inside the HypnoSpace that violates its rules and guidelines and report it. Sound simple enough, however, most things won't be found by just randomly clicking through pages. Anything clickable in the zones of HypnoSpace are listed pages, but users can also upload unlisted pages. These can only be found through direct links or by searching for specific tags the users gave their page. Some may require credentials. You can choose to stick with the tasks you are given, looking for specific kinds of violations, or go hunting on your own. The latter is fun, but only fulfilling your assigned tasks will progress the story, which I won't comment on any further. Progression is happening through skipping a meaningful timespan, in which parts of HypnoSpace change. The gameplay is certainly realistic for the simulation it is going for and somewhat slow and tedious by design. Even though I enjoyed my time, I always needed a break after about two hours. Maybe navigating HypnoSpace was a bit too annoying for me but I won't hold it against the game. I can see the vision. The only real gripe I have with it is the ending. Even though it technically answered everything, I feel like it's still missing a conclusion. But maybe I am missing something? Anyway, I think this game is outstanding and nothing like this exists in this scale. I give it a 9/10. If this looks like it is remotely up your alley, go try it!

Delightful adventure

This game is such a gem but its super hard, I had to use a walkthrough by like case number 5 but the overall experience was so memorable. loved the characters and seeing how it all unfolded at the end. some of the most satisfying credits I've seen roll. Really great game but its tough as nails.
