Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

Still the best FF game
Really good game. I don't think it is as memorable as VII or as melodramatic as VI, but what it does is be more consistent than both throughout its long playtime. There really is very little to criticise about FFIX, and I can definitely see why its some people's absolute favourite. Easily one of the top tiers in the franchise for me.

13 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
13 on sale2 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 2 “not sold” markets are read from the Steam price pass of Sep 13: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price in those. The 13 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4.11/day in the week to Aug 4 → 4.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

one of the best games ever. Nothing to add
masterpiece, phenomenal game. buy it now.
It's the best game. Yes, I'm biased. I strongly recommend playing it with the Moguri Mod, as it's currently the closest you'll get to a true remaster.
Yeah its peak
This is the game that got me into Final Fantasy, when I tried a friend's copy on their PS1, back in 2002. I never forgot that opening sequence, or the crash-landing into Evil Forest, until I eventually traded for a used copy from a friend, a few years later. As I write this, I am more than halfway through the game on my Steam replay, and it's every bit as captivating as I remember; maybe more so. While the technical aspects of the game's presentation are dated now, there's a level of charm that still makes it all come together for me, even with its age and flaws. I've been taking my time to explore, since this time around, I'm not itching to see what comes next in the (quite gripping) story, nor trying to squeeze in as much progress as possible within a time limit enforced by my former guardians, nor praying that my worn-out PS1 discs will cause the game to hang during a loading screen. Final Fantasy IX has so much to offer that it may overwhelm, yet the game guides the player along to ensure that almost any player can enjoy the experience to fit their playstyle. There is no shame in plowing through to experience the story, which is an incredible rollercoaster experience that is likely to stick with you long after the credits roll. On the flipside, there is plenty of incentive to wander off the plotted line with every opportunity you're given - these are few and far between throughout the adventure, so you can't put off exploration if you have any interest in doing so! This design does result in a lot of missable content, unfortunately, so my personal suggestion is to just enjoy the game at your own pace for the first run, and avoid putting yourself through the aggravation of getting achievements or 100% completion until a second or third playthrough. You will have enough time sinks as it is on your first run, especially if you prefer to master abilities ASAP. Speaking of which, character growth can frustrate for more than half of the game, as you will have few opportunities to grind, and while your party's levels will be fine even if you don't grind (there's even a hidden mechanic which discourages grinding, ugh), your rate of learning abilities will not. And you will want to learn abilities, because opportunities to obtain equipment that teaches certain abilities - or to synthesize new equipment by giving up your old stuff - are limited, and the player is not warned about this in advance. Plowing through the game will likely result in a party that lacks key abilities in the late game, especially for the bonus bosses and sidequests. However, this isn't a huge problem for finishing the story, which brings me back to my suggestion to avoid stressing over completion until your first playthrough is done. Get a feel for what the game asks of you before making a deeper dive! I have complained, but this game is worth it. The story has its flaws (some subplots get forgotten), but overall its themes and message on what it means to have friends in your corner, and on finding your reasons to live life, connect well enough to possibly extract tears from you by the time you reach the truly satisfying ending. The combat system is one of my favorites in Final Fantasy, and the characters' abilities (Zidane's Steal and Quina's Eat/Blue Magic, especially) always offer something to do in random encounters, besides rote attacks and support. The game makes a lot of references to previous Final Fantasy games, so fans who have checked out the Pixel Remasters, or who are just long-time fans who skipped or forgot IX, will see a lot of nods to the series' history. Translation issues muddy some of this, however, and the game wasn't retranslated for the mobile/Steam edition. If you like JRPGs, or even if you are curious about getting into them, Final Fantasy IX is still my pick for one of the most enjoyable games in the genre. It may not be a masterpiece, but it's still an incredible classic.
