I like Deadly Premonition more than the next guy, but avoid the PC port. The game itself is insanely ambitious and has a janky charm, but the PC version is borderline unplayable. Check out the PC Gaming Wiki page on DP Director's Cut to see the longest section of potential fixes and workarounds I've ever seen on a game. Great game, awful port, play literally any other version ( Xbox 360 > Switch > PS3 > ............ PC)

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This game is absolute cinema. I played it on my xbox, but MAN, on PC its jank & poorly optimized. Emulate instead.
Don't buy this trash. It shouldn't even be sold. They actually released a sequel without fixing this one. And they still sell it. For shame. This isn't okay Valve. You shouldn't allow this to be sold.
I hate this game. It drives me crazy. This game will truly test your patience and annoy the hell out of you. It's a pain to even get it working. I had to download someone else's save-file to get past a crash that kept happening early in the game. Some parts are almost impossible to get through on a mouse and keyboard, at least with the aiming bug that I could never get rid of. I recommended using the auto-aim feature pretty much all the time, unless you start to feel bad for shooting enemies in the crotch repeatedly. This game will make you want to slam your head into a wall. Sometimes it will be out of frustration, other times boredom. Most often however, it will be out of wonder (or confusion?) at just how ridiculous the writing and directing is. Play this with a friend while inebriated and you'll be in for a time.
The game is a wild ride. With hysterical interactions and the janky port only adding to it, this game can be both a blast and frustrating. What's that Zach? Oh Right! Make sure you check the guides section on the community page here on steam for the "2022 fixes collection, everything in one single file" patch to help the game run better. Yes Zach, I'm not forgetting... Make sure you save frequently as this game can crash unexpectedly and often, I also recommend playing with a controller too. Another tip for anyone playing/going to play, if you use an xbox controller (unsure if the same applies to PS controllers or other controllers), when aiming your gun you need to press the right thumbstick to "unlock" the aiming so you can aim up, which is necessary for boss fights, I didn't see anything mentioning this online.
F...K in the coffee. Fantastic story in my opinion. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you better be prepared to deal with an absolute headache getting this game to be stable even with all the fixes that are out there. Make sure you back up your save, a lot.
Picked this game up for $1.25, i knew about the bad port but figured it try it out. Even for 1 dollar this game is unplayable. Tried to run the .exe as windows8/ME and launch as admin and still didnt fix the issue. I made the mistake of running the game on full screen the first time i played and on the first game freeze, even using alt cntrl del and ending the program didn't drop the game, just frozen on my screen forever. Had to restart PC. Great game! RIP PC PORT
Despite the many, many flaws with this game, it somehow ended up being one of the most enjoyable pieces of media I've experienced? Should I take that as a sign that I should really watch one of it's inspirations, Twin Peaks, in the future? Maybe! Back on topic though; the story? While not the grandest tale I've seen (or necessarily the best), was an enjoyable murder-mystery to try figuring out from beginning to end. And if it wasn't being a thrilling murder-mystery, it was being a surreal comedy (be it intentionally, or unintentionally because of the bizarre choice of stock sounds or other odd decisions from a directorial standpoint). The fictional town of Greenvale? Honestly hits close to home for someone like myself. This feeling is made even more heartwarming after viewing the real life pictures used for reference, which they included in the game's unlockable Extras menu! And the character? Don't even get me started! Just about every character I found entertaining and/or rather memorable, with only maybe two or three I wasn't too keen on. That all said I wouldn't say the game is a pretty one visually, even with the improvements you could add from community fixes. As for how the game plays? It's a survival horror game, but you're given an overabundance of resources (notably infinite food at specific spots to ensure you can't starve) and what little horror there is mostly comes from scripted events. Not to say there isn't any scares at all, just that most of it kind of falls flat for me. As bizarre the keyboard/mouse controls are (especially for driving vehicles), the pin-point accuracy you have while aiming is insane! Definitely makes combat easier in the dark world sections compared to using a controller. Though despite how much I adore Deadly Premonition and am willing to disregard a lot of it's gameplay flaws, there's a big elephant in the room I've yet to address: Bugs, crashes, and general instability. Even with a dedicated collection of community fixes and the compatibility manager being a godsend for running this game in 2026, it's still an incredibly buggy and crash-prone experience. This problem is further made worse by the game not allowing saving when revisiting earlier chapters until you finish them again, which you'll want to do if you missed any side-missions. Well now you actually have something to be horrified of; better cross your fingers that no Runtime errors occur while trying to have the weather be rainy at night for those few particular side-missions! This instability issue is the sole reason for the negative grading on this review above all else, and it genuinely saddens me that the developers were never really able to truly fix this version. Heck, I don't feel the Director's Cut additions were really all that necessary to begin with. Maybe some of it will make sense once I've played Deadly Premonition 2, but as of the time of writing I've yet to get around to it. So yeah, if you're playing this game in 2026 I'd highly recommend seeking out the original Xbox 360 release if you're willing to tolerate the combat being far more frustrating. Can't vouch for the PS3 or Nintendo Switch versions, but I imagine they're slightly better alternatives than picking it up on Steam. If you have to have it on Steam for whatever reason though, I'd highly recommend waiting for a heavy discount like I did as this release absolutely isn't worth paying $25 USD for.
