14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 17: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 76.75/day in the week to Jul 15 → 3.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I'd love a good lovecraftian detective game and the world absolutely deserves one, but this one should be called "The way too large City with no content to fill it". Feels like 90 percent of the time my main job is traveling from point A to point B. Through a city full of facades, closed doors, repeating house layouts and assets, and npcs whose most interactive feature is complaining when you bump into them. I still spend quite some time in it in hopes the quests will be rewarding enough. But when a quest got unsolvable because I retreated one room too far from an enemy, which then just vanished, my patience was drained. I am looking forward to the second part, if they can make a better job then.
Honestly it's sad because the story is good and entertaining. But the fighting part is ♥♥♥♥ and the crafting even worse. I have no desire to try to finish the game because of that. Ammo is scarce and the only way to get some is to find them or craft them and in order to craft them you need gunpowder and shell casings. Guess where you can find them ? Only in boxes, bins and other ♥♥♥♥ like that across the map and you get a few from quests. There are also the infected areas which give you more. And now guess what happens if you don't have anymore ammo or resources to craft them ? Your are doomed. You can't keep completing quests because your melee attacks are worth nothing and two type monsters just one shot you. So basically you enter a house to gather evidence -> you go down into the basement with no ammo -> you stumble upon 4 small creatures, 2 that throw weird ♥♥♥♥ at you, 2 that dash towards you and one shot you and a big one that one shots you as well. Good luck. The only solution to that is to just go for a big 2 hours boring walk across all the map to try to get some gunpowder and shell casings. And crafting ammo is not cheap at all, getting gunpowder is hard and you sometimes need 3 gunpowder to craft 1 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ round. And the damage that your weapons do is not that great but absolutely necessary to at least have a chance to clear a house. Oh and surprise, some of the monsters keep getting up when you kill them and I don't even know if there is a way to totally kill them. I tried. If the fighting and crafting parts were more balanced and not that boring the game would have been way better. I will not go into a boring walk across all the map just to get a few gunpowder to at least be able to keep playing the game. I like hard games when they are not bullshitting you. Being hard and boring is a disaster. But if you have the nerves to get along with that the story is cool, even though the side quests are not that great.
This remaster has been left in a broken un-optimised state, frame-gen is broken, performance is a mess and the developers are radio silence for months only interested in selling us the sequel. If they ever fix it I'll pull this review.
I forced myself to complete the game, although large parts of it felt like a boring slog. As a fan of especially the earlier Frogwares titles, it saddens me that their recent games mostly boiled down to the same open-worldish formula that sacrifices quality for quantity with a simple framework for repetitive content that they can churn out quickly in an attempt to fill that world. Their open worlds may be nice to look at, but playing in them quickly ruins the illusion. In this game it's even more apparent, because of the action-adventure elements that want you to focus on combat and scavenging. They only have one or two templates for middle-class houses in the game, one for luxury villas, one for storage halls, one for ruined houses, etc. So every time you enter a ruined house, it looks the same as every other: the floor is broken in the same places, the stairs are in the same spot, the magically hidden entrances are exactly in the same spot, the loot is in the same spot and you know exactly when and where to expect enemies to spawn. You will see the same predictable locations uncountable times throughout the game, which severely hurts the credibility of the world, the potential horror atmosphere and the whole exploration aspect of it. (Seriously, what kind of cultist goes throughout the city and decides to conjure up some illusiory wall 50 times in exactly the same spot of the same floor plan? Even the domino blocks on some tables are arranged in exactly the same pattern throughout the world. And at one point I encountered an NPC who just cried in a cutscene after learning that her dog died, only to immediately afterwards continue reading her book with a bored look.) Combat is also nothing to write home about. There are not many different enemy types and you quickly learn their patterns. Your weapons and ammo is scarce at the beginning, but after progressing through the story a bit and pumping some XP into a basic perk system that mostly just gives minor attribute bonuses, the combat encounters just become a predictable annoyance that you have to deal with every time you enter an uninhabited location. The side cases boil down to uninspired fetch quests. And for a game that originally advertised itself as requiring the player to think for themselves and not having any waypoints that tell you where to go next, it really is just waypoints with extra steps: you always have a lead in your clues for a case that will very obviously point you at a specific location like "on road X, between road Y and Z", which you then roughly place on your map. You then go to that road and search for a marked door, but that's it. It's not like you even need to combine different clues on your own, everything you need is always spelt out in a single clue. Sometimes you need to head to an archive first and select three things that a specific clue gives you (e.g. "time period: current", "topic: citizen records", "district: X") in order to find the next clue towards a location, which is again just extra steps and does not really require much ingenuity on the player's part. The presentation of text clues is as immersive as reading through an SMS. It feels rushed, so I quickly stopped caring. The menu will summarize the important parts anyway. It also does not really feel like you are really doing detective work, since the main character just happens to have some supernatural abilities that lets him see and hear what previously happened in a location. It feels like a cheap way out of needing to come up with logical reasoning for things. The only thing that remotely feels like it requires the player to show some understanding of what's going on is when they need to bring those past illusions in the correct order. But even that can easily be brute-forced. The game also continues in the trend from previous games where the solution to the main case is always morally ambiguous and open to interpretation. Or in some cases it's not actually ambiguous, but the game's achievements for whatever reason seem to encourage you to pick the most despicable option. Ultimately, none of the options really have any meaningful repercussions for your playthrough and do not impact the endings at all. Most characters introduced throughout the story are quickly forgotten and I barely established any connection to the protagonist at all. Also, the DLCs are not worth their price. It's just more annoying fetch quests with barely any story to frame them.
I played the original initially with no issues, this new version keeps crashing and seems to have widespread optimization issues. It’s been sitting on my backlog for a while now, and I’ve been really looking forward to finally playing it but will wait until its patched. Edit - The Sinking City A Moody, Lovecraftian Mystery The Sinking City nails atmosphere. Walking through its flooded streets, foggy alleys, and crumbling buildings, you can almost feel the oppressive weight of the city pressing down on you. The game captures Lovecraftian horror beautifully the sense of dread and creeping madness is constant, and the world feels alive in a way that’s rare for detective games. Investigation is the core mechanic, and it’s genuinely satisfying when you piece together clues and follow threads to uncover hidden truths. However, the pacing can be uneven. Some cases feel brilliant and immersive, while others are bogged down by repetitive fetch quests or unclear objectives. Combat exists but is clunky and often feels secondary to the mystery-solving. Technical issues and occasional bugs can be frustrating, but they rarely ruin the experience. The story is dark, intriguing, and occasionally surreal, with multiple endings that make your choices feel meaningful. If you enjoy detective work, exploration, and Lovecraftian horror, The Sinking City is worth diving into just be prepared for some rough edges along the way.
Amazing but flawed. While it starts with an unpleasant first impression, with a janky camera, animations and unimpressive combat, it develops into a well-made, unique detective mystery game based on Lovecraftian lore. The writing is excellent and is probably the main reason to pick this game up. I like how the morality of every choice is always called into question, and how there is no 'correct' choice — every decision you make has its own shade of grey. Also the way you solve cases by adding evidence into your "Mind Palace" is really unique and well done. One thing I especially want to mention is the empty, useless open world, which unfortunately detracts from the overall experience. As for the remastered version of the game, it runs exceptionally badly for a game that doesn't even look particularly good and, if you enable ray-traced reflections, enjoy stuttering every two seconds. Plus, for some reason, there is no motion blur toggle, which is completely insane for a remaster of a video game released in 2025. If you enjoy good Lovecraftian stories, this game is definitely for you and I would recommend it.
Cthulhu is love and peace, but as far as remasters go this has to have sunken to the bottom of the barrel and aged like surströmming. Pros:

City is now even more atmospheric thanks to visual overhaul.
4K textures and FSR/DLSS/TSR support.
Slightly better controls and less clunky combat.
Cons:

Improved visuals are due UE5 and that's a doodoo engine with skidmark smears.
The city still too big, atmospheric yet soulless because non-story NPCs don't matter.
No trading, no bartering, no reason to explore the big city as there's no lore and the sole loot in game is mostly just crafting mats.
The infested zones see you use more resources that you gain if you fight.
Non-key evidence is sometimes hidden in onerous places, forcing PC to be at the exact spot and camera angle to see/get them.
Interact prompt distance for actual key items is at toddler's arm length when dime a dozen crafting mats shine from distance.
Insults:

Disappointing performance, 4080 Super and 9950X3D struggle to deliver ~70 FPS on 1440p, all High and without raytracing.
Remaster tries to sell you two quest packs that are even more of the same copypaste Dragon Age 2 style houses and fetch quests.
Not even single new interior design added to the investigations, making the copypaste just stab you under your fingernails.
Get this from a heavy sale if you crave your eldritch spelunking dose. Or the bundle if you want to spend even more time working on Reed's leg day as you run across the city.
