For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. I really like it. : (
I finally found a scratch for the 22-year-itch of Burnout3's Road Rage mode with no timer, once I unlocked the Road Rage creation mode. That's worth the price tag alone for me.
In almost a year barely anything has changed about this game. The "physics patch" just made the cars feel different during drift. Not worse, not better - just different. All the long-standing problems are still present. And now they've also announced second game? Come on.

I've played every Burnout title ever made (including the spiritual successors "Dangerous Driving" et. al) and Wreckreation feels most like the Burnout I love (and miss). The devs, TFE, did a great job of putting the polish to this game and they've kept updating it without any guaranteed income. If you love arcade racers, definitely give this one a spin.
Despite what the marketing implies, this game is a a faithful Burnout spiritual sequel. Highly recommend it to fans of the series!
When I heard Wreckreaction being announced two years ago. I was very excited and hyped. The game got delayed but was being developed at least. As time wore on I became a bit more skeptical that this was going to be another dud from the negativity the game was getting during development and launching. When it did release the game was pretty good but still needing fixing. I waited a while and came back to play, and boy was I NOT DISAPPOINTED in how the game turned out. I have been hooked playing nonstop this past week complete ling all the road rage challenges and more events. The customization of creating your own events and world building is top notch. It really is like burnout paradise meets track mania with some need for speed fun of cop cars tossed into it. However, the game still has bugs, but at least it is tolerable to play. Some noticeable ones are inconsonant AIs, crash physics can be messed up when you hit an object when it should have been a defendant crash it doesn't turn into a crash, or crashing into a object at low rate of speed it turns into a crash. Another issue with crashing has the car sometimes randomly rubberbanding backwards when colliding with a solid object. Another bug sometimes the time of day can be effected when restarting an event when you fail and retry. All in all it isn't as bad as what it could be for what has been accomplished with this game. The game will take time and commitment to play. The time of day changes along with the weather for events which adds to the challenge, but the game has been made easier with added things such as being able to start first, extra lives in road rage events. That in mind the dev team is currently very underfunded and deserves more praise for what they have accomplished with little recourses and the time they have put into making this game. They have setup a patreon if anyone wants to help support the game. As far as I am aware it is a one time purchase with no DLC content with everything being added into the game with slow updates. My hope is that crash mode will finally being introduced into the game sooner or later. Overall the game still needs some minor fixing and with more funding and hopefully a growing community for the game. I hope this underserving gem that was dealt a bad hand gets the limelight it deserves. I'd give a solid 8/10. The world is breathtaking and open but seems a bit too big for a arcade like game. The graphics and visuals are breath taking. Thew gameplay and mechanics are fun, but could still use some tweaks. I look forward to see what TFE can cook up with more support with this game.
I will save you a lot of time right now and tell you exactly what this is. It is NOT: Gran Turismo, Beami.NG Drive, nor even Mario Kart or Trackmania. If you want any of that, go somewhere else. This IS what happens when you give Cruisin' USA an open world and infinite Hotwheels Track accessories. I know that SOUNDS like Trackmania, but there is a distinct difference. If you like the kind of physics that aren't and the vague familiarity of Mario Kart drifting in the vein of 64, you will be very happy here. I SHOULD be saying that it's a Burnout Paradise clone, as it very much wants to be seen as exactly that, from the takedowns to the nitro gauge. This game is way too buggy to be that, and Paradise wasn't exactly a shining star of excellence. The penalty crash events are exactly that, a penalty to playing the game. The premise is simple enough. Don't crash one of the cars. But it is a competing car that is bashing into you, and shows up in the middle of your crash setups, so you will be hitting it all the time and losing time for doing so. And after crash cams you may be teleported right on top of the thing so you WILL hit it all the time. Terrible mode, waste of time and nothing but frustrating. The game can't manage to draw shadows more than fifty yards out, so you'll be seeing those pop in all the time. However, the worst part is that every single race and event removes control from you while other cars are bashing in to you so that the game can make sure that, even though you've completed 49 of 50 of these events, you'll be informed of the basic mechanics of what you're doing and hand held into the first five seconds of the race. You can turn the voiceover down, but you can't turn the tutorial off. A great idea that is more frustrating than fun. Sad that it turns out to be so infuriating to interact with.
I don't normally write reviews but this game has a lot of potential. If you're looking to recapture the nostalgia of Burnout, you're not going to get that. You will be mildly entertained by this game though. I'm just going to list off various gameplay elements that sort of broke the spell for me. The game is fun and it's clearly Burnout (it is a "spiritual successor" after all) but it just misses the mark on a few points which I think could be easily fixed with updates down the line. **Note that all this is in comparison to my experience with various Burnout titles. 1. The Music The music sucks, I'm sorry to say that. I get that getting licensed music might be hard but maybe reaching out to the community online or setting up a contest could help get better tracks. Old Burnout games had amazing soundtracks that just made driving fun but in this game it just feels a little monotonous. 2. The UI The UI is trying to be Burnout Paradise and some children's arcade racer at the same time. It might be a silly gripe to some but for me it sort of ruins the experience. The game still feels like it's in early development with the way the UI looks. In addition to the music thing, the UI sounds (for instance when you take the lead) are also a little too childish, I feel like I'm playing a Hot Wheels game (which btw, feels like playing with plastic). Consider also that you have the old Burnout-style ticker tape bar at the botton as well as the boost bar but then most of the other UI elements are flat or simple shapes, it makes the game feel like a mod for the aforementioned plastic-feeling Hot Wheels game. Also, the fonts used in the game aren't nice to look at nor are they consistent. Some popups have gradients, some are flat white, and as mentioned none of it flows with the only nice part of the UI: the Burnout-style ticker tape. The boost bar is ok but I think it can be improved. To be honest, if the entire UI was made to match that very ticker tape element, the game would look way better. *Weird note but being able to change Graphics settings on the fly (despite having to pause the game anyway to reach that menu) is a nice touch 3. Identity/World The identity is of the game is flat. Like going to Chuck-E-Cheese's without Chuck-E. You get the experience but it's more like being at the DMV. The introduction to the game feels like opening a plastic case to receive a small toy, not the grand entrances of Burnout games' past. The map is meh. Feels like I'm playing Ace of Spades on the original randomly-generated voxel map all over again. One thing I loved about Burnout Pardise was racing in a CITY. Older titles had races of different types in various regions, cities, across the world. Which was cool because the campaign was about making your mark in the world or city. In this game, the flat-looking Driver's License and lacklustre enthusiasm just make the game feel boring, as if I'm at Walmart shopping for underwear. Another thing too, when you crash in this game it just feels like the game is acknowledging that you crashed. Sounds strange but let me elaborate: In the Burnout games, when you crashed, the game slowed down (dramatically) and made the crash a cinematic event. You lost control, your car is a wreck, and if you're lucky you can move your car into another racer and sabotage them. I think this gives you a reason as to why games like MarioKart make getting back on the track such an endeavour; as to see how important it is to drive well. The previously-mentioned city thing is important too because if there's one thing I can remember; is that in any Burnout game I played, the maps were always spectacular and full of interesting art and tight spaces. In Paradise specifically, the city was the star of the show from the open mountainous regions to the baseball park to the docks. In Wreckreation, I'm on a random island? With the climate of a typical North American / European temporate zone? Adding on, the world feels empty, utterly. Cold and isolated. In Burnout, the roads were always packed with cars which made racing a real thrill. And in pre-Paradise games, there were a lot of races with really tight spaces which made the races more fun, more challenging, and more rewarding when you completed them. The differences in the world on the map aren't that interesting honestly. It's a lot better than just having a flat green map but it's still so impersonal. 3.a This game also feels a bit stretched in the sense that it wants to be a open-world like Paradise but also have the old, linear style of racing from Burnout 3 (and other titles but 3 was my favourite). Sure it's nice to drive around an big empty lot but that does get old real fast. And if I'm entering a race, the race itself should feel linear and locked in. Agile racing is nice but what we all loved in Burnout is just having the pedal to the metal and having to grind our cars alongside the barriers of the race if we had to. 4. The Physics I got this game recently so I saw that there was a patch for this but.... It's still not as a smooth as Paradise despite the higher framerate cap. The turning/drifting actually isn't too bad but the experience of driving itself is not as smooth. It's close but still a ways away from getting that polish. In Burnout Paradise, when I would drive off of a ramp or split-ramp, I would FEEL how heavy the car is and I'd be able to do a rolling flip too. In Wreckreation, it feels like I'm participating in the Red-Bull Soapbox race with a car made of straw. Crashing into other racers also feels more like I'm hitting rubber rather than metal and let's be honest guys, nobody likes "Heavy Rubber" but we all love Heavy Metal. Stunts in the game are also boring as there's no impact in doing them in terms of feeling. 5. The Cars The cars feel Burnout, in aesthetic terms. I do wish there were more camera options available though. I don't like being locked into either Behind or Front-of-Hood view. Conclusion In its current state, this game is not worth $60. I got it half-off and honestly, that's what I would consider to be a fair price for the game right now. There is a LOT of potential here and it could honestly rival Burnout if this game manages to reach the polish of those older titles. The game needs a personality that matches every element of the game that I, as the player, interact with: The UI, the music, the world, and the FEEL. This game lacks soul, but I think it can find enlightment with enough tender love and care. 6/10 for me. Honestly, if this game simply copied Burnout Paradise 1:1 and modernized it, it would be worth the full $60.
