This "game" is the epitomize of EVERYTHING I absolutely HATE about modern games: Extremely bland open world, boring user interface, Unreal Engine stuttering, ugly "realistic" graphics with horrendous visuals artifacts no matter the settings (just make it look like a PS2 game it would unironically be better atp). a complete lack of style and unique vision, mishandling a genre once beloved, no fun to be found, gigantic download size for no reason, a crappier version of what's been done better years ago (They cloned things like the license concept, "shutting down" new cars to unlock them, and even the car renderings being the same angle as ones in Burnout Paradise. I don't care this team helped make Burnout, for the love of god pick a better game to rip off! Have you ever heard of being creative or a blender before???), the list goes on and on. Playing this is torture, not because it's the worst game ever, far from it, but because I expected better., and every second I play this I wonder to the gods of racing "when did we deserve such a terrible punishment?" Three fields entertainment is damn good at disappointing people and I'm sick and tired of being let down. Pass the torch to someone else, you clearly can't carry it.

I should have expected what I was getting into when I saw mixed reviews. I was just so hopeful for another Burnout style game, but this was not it. It tries so hard to be Burnout Paradise, to the point it has none of its own identity, and even then, it fails to have anything that made Burnout fun. The cars handle absolutely awful, the amount of times I've completely slid off the road just trying to make a slight turn. The traffic is horrendous, appearing right in front of you at times, and unlike burnout, the slightest touch has you crashing out, there's no such thing as traffic checking. the takedown camera at times, puts you back into the game either right in front of traffic or a tree so you'll crash instantly. I wanted to like this, but if you want a decent Burnout experience, dust off your PS2 and play proper burnout
Wreckreation is a game that I can only really recommend in one of three circumstances. Firstly, if you're looking for a sandbox driving game to play with a group of friends. Secondly, if you like creating racing events from within a sandbox world. And thirdly, if you need something to keep your attention engaged whilst listening to podcasts. Outside of making your own fun or using it to semi-mindlessly keep your brain active, Wreckreation generally falls short. But within that criteria, it's pretty good. From the moment you start the game, those who have played Burnout Paradise will find it immediately familiar. Because it is, in all but name, Burnout Paradise 2. It basically works the same. And as a sequel to Burnout paradise, it would have been great... if it had been released just a handful years after the original. Alas, to a modern standard, it feels somewhat outdated; particularly with games like Forza Horizon as competition. Gameplay-wise, the sandbox loop is fine. My one gripe is that aside from some specific locations like individual race tracks, landmarks and structures, everything is very... samey. The world is littered with collectables and starting points for challenges and races. There's plenty there to get through before having to resort to community content for new stuff. But when it comes to those actual challenges... well, they could be better. I'll get into the tracks and racing physics later, but most of the challenges that involve AI players have fairly limited grid sizes, with AI cars that generally lack character. Yes, this is a staple of Burnout as a whole. You don't have the named AI characters of GRID 2 or FlatOut, and the races are too short and fast-paced for that to really matter anyway. But the AI do end up feeling more like obstacles than opponents, and that's a bit of a pet peeve of mine that I've had with certain kinds of arcade racing games since Ridge Racer. Outside of competitive events, you have time trial events with somewhat inconsistent difficulty. In some, you could finish with 12 seconds to spare after having crashed once on your first try. With others, it can be a challenge to get to the finish in time with a perfect run. Sometimes I wonder if the developers tested some of them with the correct vehicle. So... now we move onto the first of the two most important things in a racing game - the physics. And this where Wreckreation disappoints the most. Most of the other issues I have with the game stem from the fact that it has an out-dated formula that other games are doing better now; but the driving physics are just generally sub-par regardless. Even with the updated drift physics - which are opt-in from the ingame menu - as vastly superior as they are to the default physics, the handling of cars just feels off. Games far older than this have managed vastly superior drift-based arcade physics. GRID 2 is a good example. I still haven't figured out how to do a donut in this game, if it's even possible in the first place. You just don't get much control over the drifting. And drifting is pretty important, given how advantageous it is to maintain the boost mechanic as much as possible. The game also seems to sort of magnetically pull you into crashes, though that could also be an illusion caused by the fact that the only onboard cam is one where you can't see your car at all, so can't really see the limits of your chassis nor tell where the camera is positioned in relation to your car. It would be so much better with a bonnet/hood cam. The second very important aspect of a racing game which again Wreckreation falls short on is the driving environment itself. Sure, it's good for sandbox play. But for racing, it doesn't take long to realise a very big flaw in the game world. It's all high-speed turns. With the exception of hairpins on certain dirt roads, the world is mostly made up of sweeping highways and the occasional 3-way junction. There are no cities anywhere on the map, aside from a very simple under-construction town laid out in a very basic grid pattern. Even the race circuits on the map lack any tight turns that require any technical expertise. The only way to get anything more complex would be to set up a sky track race or create a race event that makes copious use of obstacles; but I do wonder if the AI can handle such tracks, given they've been designed for a game where everything's high speed almost all of the time. I've yet to really test that out, because collecting pieces for building tracks requires scouring the sandbox map, and I still haven't collected enough pieces to have what I need to put together something I'd be satisfied with. Visually, the game isn't exactly what you'd call impressive. Sound-wise, the sound effects aren't the greatest either, in all honesty. But where the game does get points is its fairly expansive music library, even if it takes a bit of time to work out which in-game radio station has which genre. So if you're looking for something that doesn't need all that much concentration or are seeking a sandbox environment with hefty customisation, Wreckreation is an alright choice to make. For this specific purpose, I'd rate it 7/10 and recommend it for sure. If you want a good racing game with open-world elements in general, you're better off playing something like Forza Horizon; and I'd give Wreckreation a 5/10 in general.
Is a spiritual successor to Burnout Paradise, mixed with a Forza Horizon-style open world. Despite being based on Unreal Engine (five I guess?), is well optimized and with my hardware configuration I managed to get 100 fps average at 2K resolution with all the graphical settings to max. The physics resemble that of the Burnout games and the model destruction is pretty good. I greatly appreciate that they put back the Impact Time and Aftertouch (but sadly, no Crashbreaker ._.) I don't like the art style of game, too much bland, lacks personality and too much tame. Roads are excessively wide and combined with AI's vehicle speed management, makes difficult to take down rivals. For me is a 7.5/10 but I wish they'll add the Crash Mode in the future. Such a shame the multiplayer side is already dead. Update: I really love the humorous billboards and commercial trucks livreries but some of them (if not all of them) are made with generative AI, even when the subject is something simple like a person or a generic food. Guys at Three Field Entertainment, c'mon, you are better than this, you could have used stock images taken from tons of sites, why doing something this dumb?
Honestly its rare for me to write a review so here we go... so was sitting there going "man I wish there was a sequal to Burnout Paradise. I loved the shazbot out of that game." and next thing I know Im being recommended this game. So I do what I normally do and try the game out before I buy it and I was hooked. Sure this game lacks the polish of Burnout Paradise but lets face it. This s a way smaller studio, team and budget than Paradise had. BUT THAT BEING SAID it is an amazing game. sure it has more or less the same general feeling as Paradise. IE open world where you can pick what events you want to do by pulling up to the location, having unlockables such as billboards to smash as well as different items for live mix hidden thru out the game. This game feels way bigger than paradise and while sure there are open areas of just grass. its never a flat patch of grass. it feels like a world would feel like. in other areas there fleshed out areas with billboards and items to collect. the game rewards you for exploring and often i just enjoy driving around town trying to find the billboards and unlockables without worrying about the events. i enjoy the live mix cause i can more or less stop the game and edit the world at any given moment, add in some ramps, add in some jumps, make a track in the sky with loops. all done easily. This game is not perfect but IF you were a fan of Paradise at all you will enjoy this game and while yes if you are looking for Crash mode from Burnout its sadly not here. However that probably for the best considering a possible lawsuit.I feel a lot of Burnout fans would still enjoy this game none the less. loading times are here but its not too bad but once you get in the actual game itself there is no more loading. While the graphics are not next level they are quite ncie and very easily to look at. i like the detailing in the destruction modeling of the car its all seemless. I give this game a 8.5 out of ten. At full price at 40 this game is a good deal and on sale its a must grab buy for any Burnout fan.
Unfortunately the racing is just not fun. There are quite a few things I don't like about this game but the AI is the biggest dealbreaker for me. The AI rubberbands, which might be expected in an arcade racer like this, but holy moly it is extremely overtuned. The AI can and will drive at literally any speed it wants to, and they do not hide it. This completely destroys the illusion of difficulty and, at least for me, makes the racing completely unenjoyable. Why would coming in first mean anything to me when I see the AI overtake me at mach 2 and then let me pass easily like 20 seconds later? This makes it easy for me to not recommend this game, not at full price, not at any sale price.
This game wants so badly to be impressive. That’s what makes it painful. Everything about it screams for attention. Giant world. Crazy stunts. Explosions. “Unlimited creativity.” It throws all this noise in your face hoping you’ll confuse quantity with quality. I didn’t. The driving feels weightless in the worst possible way. You slam into walls, launch through ramps, crash through traffic, and somehow none of it feels satisfying. No impact. No danger. No confidence. Just cars bouncing around like toys pretending to be powerful. And the map… dear God. Massive roads stretching in every direction with absolutely nothing memorable on them. It’s like driving through somebody’s unfinished imagination. The game keeps handing you tools to “create your dream races” while I’m still waiting for them to create a good one themselves. That’s the real problem. A game like this should feel rebellious. Loud. Addictive. The kind of thing that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. Instead it feels insecure. Like it’s constantly begging you to think it’s cooler than it actually is. I could practically hear it trying. Every event blends together. Every crash looks the same. Every race starts feeling like busywork wrapped in neon lights. And once that realization settles in, the whole experience collapses fast. The saddest part? There are tiny moments where you see what it could have been. A jump lines up perfectly. A drift almost feels good. The music kicks in at the right moment. Then the physics wake up and ruin everything again. By the end, I wasn’t even frustrated. I just stopped caring. Artificial excitement. Artificial style. A game desperately trying to convince you it’s fun while better racing games lap it without even trying.
INTRO
We are not allowed to have another Burnout in this world. How about going on a Wreckreation though?
THE GOOD, NOT SO GOOD AND THE BAD
+ Very nice collection of fictional cars (properly designed and not generic looking) + Technically a fully open map with no boundaries (aside from rocky, mountain sections) + Pletheora of soundtrack choices (mostly library songs though, nothing mainstream) + Very good sense of speed + You can teleport between parking lots if you don't want to drive + Map can be modified with live objects (they have to be unlocked though by finding random pieces on the map or unlocking them by leveling up) ? Requires manual Input.ini modification for full key rebinding (many functions cannot be changed inside the game, including a forced WASD setup for driving) ? Generally performs nice (RTX 3060 12 GB), but some microstutters are still present ? Has potential unpatched memory leaks (I experienced two in a quick succession early on, then nothing after that) ? No idea about the multiplayer since it's completely empty - Unpredictable suspension and crash physics (with Goat Simulator levels of randomness during Road Rage) - Game world is the opposite of cars in terms of quality (it's twice as big compared to what it actually offers, many uninspiring sections) - Car-specific events for your current car are not highlighted on the map and you have to manually search for everything - In places feels more like a parody than a spiritual successor of Burnout Paradise (some UI elements and game mechanics are a straight copy of Paradise, but somehow worse, almost twenty years after the original came out)
OVERALL
Since I refuse to install EA App (I was fine with Origin previously), this will (have to) do for a Burnout alternative, though it has some pretty severe issues. I understand that many patches and content updates were done since release (I got the game in June 2026), but the game could use some more patches for sure (the last one as of this writing was released in May 2026). The support hasn't been officially axed yet, so maybe there's still hope. It's definitely not unplayable, in some ways it can even be quite enjoyable, but it's still sad that games from almost 20 years ago cannot even be matched, let alone improved on in terms of gameplay. This game (naturally) looks better than Burnout Paradise and it also has open roads with no invisible walls. Other than that though? Clear downgrade in every other area. But if you aren't willing to submit to EA's messy and intrusive launcher just like me, then this ain't the worst idea during sale.
RATING
6.5/10
