About
Welcome to Elderfield is a cozy horror RPG where the abnormal is normal, the townsfolk are odd, the eldritch beings watch over you and the local news reports seem stranger by the day.

Everything in Elderfield is unsettling, from the haunting, horror manga-inspired, hand-drawn visuals to the dark, lofi soundscapes composed by Dated. Despite the strange creatures lurking just outside your home, those who wander into Elderfield rarely find a reason… or option, to leave.

Customize your home and character, unravel daily mysteries, befriend the odd townsfolk (or even marry one!), go fishing, spend your afternoons mining and forage through the surrounding wilds… There's lots to do in Elderfield!

Cultivate your land, harvest your crops, and stop the growth of unruly tentacles. Manage a variety of strange, otherworldly livestock, grow useful crops like corn, pumpkins, teeth or eyeballs and hope that beings from the woods don’t wander onto your farm.

Choose your difficulty, how much suffering can you endure? For players seeking a peaceful life of harvest and discovery, cozy difficulty offers a more laid-back experience. For those who crave a challenge, the Old Gods are waiting.
Elderfield features a deep, turn-based combat system where you must utilize gathered resources, strategic buffs and diverse equipment to survive encounters with ancient, Lovecraftian horrors.
Die, learn, farm, and forage… Then die again.
Full RPG life sim with relationships, customization, fishing and more
Hand drawn horror manga inspired artwork
Dark lofi soundtrack by Dated
Build your farm, manage animals, mine and forage to build resources
Play on cozy mode or test your skills and resource building with in depth turn based combat

This games amazing but it also has a lot of rough edges. Won't get into details now. But if it feels weirdly difficult early on like you are missing something that say... gives you more than one action a turn... then you might have walked passed the house with a quest for it and have been smashing your head into a wall for no reason.
Warning
Game is not cozy at all, the more you play, the more it demands and you just can't keep up. There is no automation, no quality of life, no balance. Look, every station in the game that works with resources can only take 1 at a time, no queues, no putting many products at once - only 1. You need hundreds of those stations, but crafting them all will take way over 100 hours of real time, cus resources are limited and respawn once per week.
Daily routine
My daily activity goes like this: wake up, run to the farm that is far from house, water 32 plants 1 by 1, restock water from nearby lake, water another 32, restock, water flowers and trees. Go to barn animals, restock their feed for each of 3 barns separately, click on each animal to give love, click on each to get resource or get from ground. Go back to house, put each egg 1 by 1 into food machine, each veggie into cask or jam maker / whatever. It all takes 3-10 days to make single final produce. Cooking requires 10-30 products for single item. You eat it in battle to heal once. I feel like an idiot to be honest doing all that for such dumb result.
Economy
Amount of cash you get from fishing, cooking, farming and ranching can't even pay for the ingredients and buildings required to make it. Most of time it is better to just buy food from shops to save on cash and sell ingredients directly. By the time you able to craft something (amor sets) you no longer need it. Inventory is very limited and there is no way to expand it a lot. Farming and ranching are clashing, since you want rain to water crops and save you hands, but it will force farm animals to give no produce. Just why? Who balanced this game, who tested it? I do know demo was out for a while so the answer is, sadly - dev gives no sh*t about any feedback. And it can be easely seen on forums, where he consistently states " everything by design, i won't change it", "it works as intended". People making numerous topics about all problems game has but nothing gets resolved, there was not a single patch since release.
Quality of life
The map is horrendous, it does not shows anything: no landmarks, no npc, no important places or quests. NPC never tells you what they like and there is no info anywhere in the game about gifting or what it gives. There is no indication which area you supposed to visit at certain stage of game. There are many softlocks player can do to themself, for example, destroying shrines on your farm will spawn unkillable bosses, doing some quests wrong way will cut off huge quest chains and you will not even know about it. Not going to specific areas early can softlock you for whole seasons. Inventory management is horrible: it is hard to move things, hard to scroll through hundreds of items, craft stations don't take items from chests (dev knows it and refuses to change). Changed key-bindings resets after you start game again. There are permanent negative bonuses you can get from random RNG, unless you do very specific build. Monsters overwhelm you with brute force cus have more 'moves' than you and you have to waste a move to cast spell or eat food, which leads to you never casting spells or eating food during combat. And as i already said, making food is too hard, so you rely on random food rewards from elites and bosses. The only way to deal with this is to overlevel by slowly grinding same areas and hoping for RNG dice to give you 6.
Battles
Actually the best part of game, cus you can equip many items and make builds, considering resistances, dmg types, hp management, defense, gem incrusting etc. But throwing dice and traversing areas takes way too long, you constantly forced to wait for animation and make extra clicks for no reason. Using shower removes both positive and negative buffs at same time, while respawning monsters - quite annoying since getting positive buffs is RNG-dependent, while negative will be showered on you from all sides. The most horrible thing is that gathering from ores or trees has high chance to deal high % dmg to you, forcing to go home and take shower, cus healing items are too sparce. So yeah, while battles are great thing, farming, cooking, fishing, ranching, inventory management and economy are completely broken and need heavy changes. This is not "by design" this is just bad development direction and lack of common understanding of how core features should combine into coherent system.
Verdict
In such horrible state i cannot recommend this game, until developers starts doing major changes and listening to community. Game desperately needs automation and quality of life, while either removing farming part entirely of fully reworking it.

I may have 17 hours logged on Steam but I have 200+ hours logged on the pre-steam patreon alpha builds. This game is so SO incredible. Yah like Stardew Valley? Yah like creepy silly scary stuff? Fear and Hunger tickle your fancy? Play this damn game.
very cool and awesome
Charming, full of love, and super fun to boot. The turn-based combat is something I haven't seen in very many cozy farming games (if any), and when paired with the genuinely creepy vibes of Elderfield, this is really a singular experience. Plenty of fun to be had with random daily events, boss fights, and the expected rhythms one might find with a farming game: tending unique crops, caring for creepy livestock, buying pets, decorating, and enjoying a spot of fishing. Music is lovingly crafted and deeply atmospheric; the weather broadcast is home to the dulcet tones of a nameless reporter who really has no business being as funny as he is. The general vibe of eldrich horror is effective. There are certain locations where the energy of fear is *definitely* cranked up, leaving a weight of dread whenever a quest on the community board eventually leads the player to a place that's looming with the deep unknown. Enemy design is showstopping. I usually dislike turn-based combat, but I'm always excited when walking into an enemy-riddled area to see what's creeping around the corner. Gear loadouts and skill aquisition feel reminiscent of old RPGs that add a layer of nostalgia that I really appreciate. I'm still early on into the game, so I don't have the full scoop on the NPCs quite yet, but the romanceable cast seems a tidge flat at times; I'm hoping that rounds out as the player's relationship with them progresses, but finding motivation to interact with them every day can be a little tough. Their design, however, is incredible, and every other part of the game is so incredible that this, to me, feels like a minor hiccup (that still may resolve itself as the story progresses). If you're considering getting this game, I really couldn't reccommend it enough. It's a fresh, inspired, and heart-filled addition to the genre that you won't regret buying. The demo save file carries over to the full game, too, so there's no reason not to give it a go!
This game wasn't even on my radar but I saw the price and decided to take a chance on it. I am thoroughly impressed with the game and the fresh twist on farming and horror. It reminds me of Welcome to Nightvale. I love it and hope to see more of this in the future! For now it's back to Elderfield with me, I've got lots more exploring to do.
