🌴 A Classic That Shows Its Age 🌴 I have great memories of this game from 5–10 years ago. I sunk hours into it, hooked for weeks, playing through the eras from plantations to modern times. 🕰️ Revisiting the Past: Coming back to it now, it definitely feels older and not quite as engaging anymore. I don’t even remember exactly which version I played back then — but I remember it being one of the classics in its genre. 🎭 How You Play Matters: I tend to play as a “good ruler” who tries to do what’s best for the people — but that honestly makes the game feel a bit bland. The real flavor comes out when you lean into the satire, role-playing as an iron-fisted, power-hungry dictator. That’s where the fun and absurdity shine. 👶 Not for Everyone: I’m not sure this one will click with the younger generation — the pacing, style, and engagement feel very old-school. But if you’re into that kind of vibe, and love classic strategy games with personality, it’s still worth a shot. 👍 Final Verdict: A nostalgic classic, but it might not hit the same anymore — unless you embrace the chaos.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

So the vanilla game is woeful when compared to earlier iterations. But with mods this actually becomes the best Tropico game so far.
The game is extremely broken. There is no way you can stop the imigrants, even if you play on the easiest setting you will get rebel attacs like every few minutes, you can have like milion empty houses, social policy and morgage policy and you will still have homeless people and there is nothing you can do about it. This game is worth like 3-5 euro price tag at max.
This is my second favorite version of Tropico, but perhaps the one I play the most when I get the itch to be a big dictator. The Pros: ======== 1) It has a native Linux client that performs very well. I wish everyone would target Linux. I'm a huge supporter of developers that do. 2) There is an overarching story that drives the campaign. Each mission builds on the previous mission in a great way so it doesn't always feel like you are starting from scratch when beginning a mission. 3) Penultimo...nuff said. Cons: ===== 1) They took out El Presidente giving speeches to the citizens of Tropico. That was one of my favorite features of Tropico 4. I miss giving the speeches. 2) In fact, El Presidente doesn't really do much in this version. You have El Presidente and his family, but they don't really do anything but walk around. El Presidente has had more important roles in previous versions. If your going to role play as a dictator then make that role somehow important to the game. This has relegated Tropico 5 to nothing more than a city builder. Sure, you can assassinate people or have them jailed, but there really isn't a good reason to do that. The inner politics of Tropico have been dumbed down a great deal, in favor for more juggling of support from external powers. As a result, Tropico loses that zany banana republic feel it had in previous versions.
Its an economy management game. It's difficult, and you have discretion that can change your game play drastically. It's intelligent, its fun, and it engaging where other games lose your interest.
没有中文,你就是文明7来了也是差评。we need chinese.
The Tropico franchise gets way less attention and praise than it deserves - every new release has built on the things that worked in previous versions, while adding plenty of great new content. For that reason, I'll recommend springing straight for the most recent Tropico (at the time of my writing this, Tropico 6 is current).
