About

Through the Woods is a third-person Norse horror adventure set in a forest on the western shores of Norway that tells the story of a mother and her missing son. Through reactive narration, the player experiences the mother’s re-telling of the events surrounding her son’s disappearance. Players follow the path of a terrified woman who has forced herself to enter this terrible place for the sole purpose of finding her son, in a setting heavily influenced by Norse mythology and Norwegian folk tales.
With Through the Woods, Antagonist have captured the feeling of the forest as they saw it as children, with all the fear and mystery that comes from roaming through it alone. This is coupled with a powerful story and high quality sound design, which in the darkness of the forest becomes a core mechanic. Through the Woods is a profound experience that directly delivers the feelings of loneliness and loss in a terrifying place...

Reviews
Through the Woods ma klimat i świetne udźwiękowienie, które naprawdę robi robotę i momentami potrafi zbudować napięcie.

I really enjoyed this one. A good balance of exploration, with a few danger areas - which were comfortably achieveable without destroying my will to game. The Norse tales are interesting too. The ending is very much not what I hopped for. But i understand it for the story telling pov.
Scenery was great and the story was interesting and was a good game to play through
"Through the woods" is an interesting and suitably creepy game. Not a great, "must play" game but definitely worthy of respect for what started out as a school project (or so the comments in the credits say). If so then I admire his/her/their creativity and it is enjoyable from that aspect. "Through the Woods" is a slow burn horror that relies on the unknown and surrounding environment to set its mood. The story/theme is set in Nordic lore and is an interesting take on aspects of it. So no, Thor or Odin or anything. I don't normally get scared nor fall for jump scares in horror movies or games, but a couple of the creatures I encountered game me goosebumps and the chills when they killed me. The game uses the darkness and limited ambient lights, sounds and screams of the MC, and the unknown to create the horror in the player's mind. "Through the Woods" is more of a walking simulator so the creature encounters are very few, but are enough to accomplish the goal of scaring the player. The audio and visuals are average, as well as the dialogue/script. The plot is fairly good though. I make it sound like I didn't like the game, but I did. Just horror style games aren't my thing and I am one of those who doesn't tend to get immersed enough in them to really appreciate them as other people would. The concept of the game intrigued me enough to play it and knowing that it started as a project that turned into something of a passion project for the creators makes me much more appreciative of it.
- Reflections bug (visual stuttering) on some AMD cards has yet to be fixed to this day - Swimming looks awful - Controls on keyboard are messed up (mouse speed changes from normal go giga slow). I recommend to use a controller. - Enemies are more annoying than fun to deal with. Felt more like trial and error. Also some enemies seem to always know about your location even though you are hidden far away. I tested this numerous times. - Some visual bugs (but it is really not that bad if you disable reflections) + Even though water looks terrible, the rest of the game looks fine. I don't like the look of the characters aswell but the environment is pretty good. + Really good ambient noises like the creaking of wood. + Exploration is cool + Theme and story are fine, overall, I liked it. Swamp area was peak and the notes were interesting enough. Short game with some annoying technical issues and it is a bit unpolished but it was still fun enough to play through.
A Haunting Journey Through Norse Mythology and Unforgettable Lore
Through the Woods is an atmospheric narrative‑driven adventure that beautifully weaves Nordic mythology, eerie folklore, and emotional storytelling into a haunting experience that stays with you long after the game ends. If you love rich world‑building, mythic ambience, and deep lore, this is one of those titles that feels like a journey into the heart of a dark folk tale. From the moment you step into its shadowed forests and rugged landscapes, the game’s Nordic aesthetic pulls you in. The environments are textured with ancient runes, misty woods, and weathered ruins that feel like they’re alive with stories waiting to be uncovered. The sense of place here is incredibly strong — every path feels like you’re walking deeper into a myth. At the core of the experience is the narrative, which draws heavily from Norse mythology and Scandinavian lore. Characters, spirits, and encounters feel drawn from ancient tales, but with a fresh, modern twist that keeps everything unpredictable and compelling. Whether it’s a whispered legend around a campfire or a surreal vision that blurs reality and myth, the storytelling feels respectful of tradition while still surprising you. Mechanically, the game focuses on exploration, environmental puzzles, and narrative discovery rather than combat. This design choice works incredibly well here — letting players slow down, absorb the atmosphere, and really feel the weight of the world’s history and mysteries. Every cleared path, every discovered relic, and every whispered tale builds a deeper connection to the overarching story. The sound design and score deserve special mention, too — haunting melodies, subtle ambient effects, and atmospheric cues all enhance the mythic tone and make the woodlands feel alive with presence. What truly sets Through the Woods apart is its lore‑rich storytelling. It doesn’t just hint at mythology — it embraces it, makes you want to uncover it, and then surprises you with emotional beats that feel both epic and deeply personal. Whether you’re a fan of myth, narrative exploration, or atmospheric adventure, this is an experience that resonates long after the last scene fades. Verdict: A beautifully crafted mythic journey with deep Nordic lore and unforgettable narrative.
10 / 10 — Highly Recommended
