Atmospheric and spooky, but weirdly relaxing.
I remember when I tried Sunless Sea for the first time about 8 years ago and immediately put it aside because I could not bare the slow-paced and text heavy nature of this game at that time. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I am glad I gave this game a second shot because once I got used to the pacing, the stories that are told were incredibly captivating to me and the main reason I finished the game multiple times. If you are into light lovecraftian, uncanny fiction with a dystopian setting, I can highly recommend Sunless Sea. The writing here is simply excellent.

I have bought this game now on three platforms, and will continue to buy this game. 10 years old and it's still frustratingly hard and evocative and beautiful. If you like Cultist Simulator or Book of Hours, the writer of the two person Weather Factory that develops those games is the writer on Sunless Sea--you'll recognize the bones of the Hours, particularly the Moth, in this game.

Eerie and hypnotic, the ambiance of this game is absolutely fantastic.
Absolute nightmare in the early game but actually pretty chill and relaxing once you're properly armed and outfitted.
