If you were a big fan of KH1 and KH2 growing up, and even played a side game or two, and you think you might enjoy this game, I cannot stress enough that you can and absolutely should play every game in the collection BEFORE you do. I understand that sounds like a lot of games, but this series has a STORY. Which means the games connect to each other. So if you decide to start a book series on the 5th book, It is absolutely your fault that you would be confused in that situation, not the people who wrote the books. If you consume it from start to finish, this is a beautiful story with a lot of strong character moments, The best music to ever grace this earth, some of the most spectacular boss fights, wacky storylines connecting to the things that likely made your childhood. If you have a taste for fantasy, then there is no better meal than Kingdom Hearts. This is my favorite game that exists, and I have played just about every relevant single player RPG that has come out since 2001. But if you do not give the story a chance to earn its moments, then they will confuse you, likely leading to mockery of the subject instead of yourself for skipping it. It's a depressing conclusion many people reach about this series. I write this in the hope that even 1 person could read it and I could change their mind. I spent years not giving this game a chance, and the moment I did I played through every other game to make sure I could understand it, and boy did it earn its moments. May your heart be your guiding key.

Story took a complete nosedive and hit the absolute lowest of the series. Base game is alright, but doesn't really come close to KH1 or KH2. Gameplay is such a mixed bag. Combat does in fact feel floaty as many people say, but they also introduce so much variety, that you have to applaud some of the decisions made here. I did not appreciate the combat until the ReMind DLC, and that is where this game really stands out. Gummi ship was actually fairly alright; I appreciate the new take on it. Overall, this is a horrible place to start playing the series, but if you've started from the beginning of the series, it's worth finishing it out with KH3. (Just make sure to play the DLC...)
Kingdom hearts 2 was a far better game in every aspect. This game's Disney Worlds served no purpose to the plot. The Xehanort story is complete hot garbage. The kingdom hearts franchise was utterly ruined by birth by sleep and the Masters of masters bullsh*t. I have no doubt in my mind Kingdom Herats 4 will be just as bad.
On release I played this game and felt there was something missing, KH2 was my all time favourite game and going into kh3, it felt bittersweet. I really didn't enjoy it, combat felt floaty and the attractions really took me out of the game quite a bit. Also not having critical mode felt awful since I love inflicting pain on myself early in the game. However a friend gifted me it as a long running joke that we had about finally playing the DLC, and I'm so happy he did. The game felt much more snappy and responsive, combat felt much better and of course critical mode made me enjoy it that little bit better. Not to mention how the DLC actually redeemed the story a bit for me. Great purchase Now I gotta do all the busy work to unlock everything... Great...

The worst disappointment of my adult life was playing kingdom hearts 3 after waiting so damn long. The story is dogwater, the combat is floaty and all about who can get to their invincible combos quicker, and the length of the game doesn't come close to justifying the wait. If you're not a kingdom hearts fan already you won't enjoy this entry. If you are, you'll probably eat this slop up no matter what I say. But the truth is you deserved better than what you got. P.S. If anyone tells you the remind DLC fixes anything about the original game, they've clearly gone mad from mercury poisoning.
A DLC that adds more challenge perfect for testing out Critical Mode and geared toward hardcore gamers with its fifteen or so bosses, much like KH2FM, which adds significant content to KH3, elevating it to the same level as KH2. The new storyline offers a fresh take on the final chapter of the base game, while also expanding the game’s final area, which is absolutely stunning. The new sequences are emotionally charged, and players get the chance to play as other characters much to the delight of fans.
Kingdom Hearts 3 gets much better once you realize the following things: 1. You are legally allowed to skip cutscenes, especially the recaps of disney movies 2. The game expects you to be airstepping between enemies for mobility
The story is absolute gibberish, and thats coming from someone who actually knows the lore. but its got really pretty environments and its a solid spectacle fighter in a genre that's starved for good ones.
