Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Aug 19 → 1/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This game is absolutely incredible. It has a steep (very steep) learning curve in comparsion to games like Civilization or Total War, but it's absolutely worth it. If you are a fan of the time period, this game was basically designed for you and you MUST get it. Worth mentioing that I only played with the Invictus mod (never tried vanilla), so the experience might be different without it.
Been playing this game quite a bit to the point I was mumbling in my sleep one night and my wife asked me what was wrong and I answered "Carthage must be destroyed!" Don't be fooled by the steam review score, unfortunately most of them are before the gameplay overhaul that really made the game more dynamic. Personally I have been enjoying it a lot and love the flavor in the gameplay. Having played most of the paradox interactive's library I think this and stellaris are probably the most straightforward to get into. A lot of the game is about map painting which is easier than other the games since most other nations are smaller tribes. It has the pops mechanics of EU4 and also the character management aspect of CK2 so you need to juggle both your empire and the ruler which gets more difficult as you grow and so do nearby nations. Specific nations have missions that guide you along although some feel needlessly time consuming or way too specific, especially those that require conquering specific provinces when they are split among different nations. Combat is pretty straightforward similar to CK2 where you have armies made up of units and you get different buffs depending on your culture and technology. In the beginning you rely on Levies that are proportional to your population and hiring mercs which are costly, but once you get legions you get a much more powerful force that can gain XP and depending on their performance they get unique buffs. However legions are allied to the general so they can betray and lead to a civil war. Which is a big aspect of the game, just trying to keep all the different cultures and religions in line while constantly expanding and going to war. Also characters tend to belong to different families which force you to rely on nepotism when trying to fill out positions or else they can get angry at you which can lead to revolts. The economy portion is also fairly straight forward with different types of pops providing tax, manpower, or research but for the most part just going to war and taking pops from your enemies is the best way of making money quickly. I do like that Rome is simultaneously the easiest nation and also the hardest enemy in the game. They get crazy buffs and claims so playing them is a lot of conquering while playing against is a challenge where you try to either ally them or hope they ignore you until you see an opening. The Invictus mod is a must have since it adds a lot of content also making the game more dynamic with events. There's a lot to like and it's a shame that it was abandoned after when there is so much more potential that can't be unlocked by mods. If you are a fan of this period of history, I think this and Total War are your best options.
I love Imperator: Rome. It is a pity it was dropped. I still go back to it from time to time, and mods help a lot in creating a great experience. I would recommend buying and trying it, especially on sale. I am giving a thumbs down due to Paradox’s ongoing lack of care for existing customers (see Surviving Mars Relaunched) and other Paradox practices that have piled up over the years. At this point, no Paradox-published game warrants a thumbs up from me. ________________________________________________ UPDATE: You have been permanently banned from the Surviving Mars: Relaunched Hub. You were banned by a Surviving Mars: Relaunched developer. Reason: "Abuse of the Steam Review System" YOU WOULD FIGURE PARADOX INTERACTIVE (PUBLISHER OF SURVIVING MARS RELAUNCHED) WOULD KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THESE THINGS BETTER. YOU MESS UP A LAUNCH, DISLIKE COMMENTS ABOUT YOUR COMMERCIAL APPROACH, AND NOW BELIEVE IT IS UNJUST FOR PEOPLE TO SHARE REAL THOUGHTS AND CONCERNS BASED ON YOUR PAST ACTIONS ON OTHER GAMES YOU ALSO PUBLISH. I FIND THIS HILARIOUS, AND QUITE APPROPRIATE TO SHARE ON OTHER PUBLISHED GAMES SUCH AS THIS ONE. MY DECISION TO WARN OTHERS ABOUT YOUR CONSUMER PRACTICES, AND TO NOT GIVE A THUMBS UP TO ANY PARADOX INTERACTIVE PUBLISHED GAME, HAS ONLY BEEN REINFORCED.
As a player of Total War: Rome 1 and 2, I cannot go back to those after having played Imperator: Rome. The game was initially released as a mess - explaining the early negative reviews - but has had a significant overhaul since, making it one of the best itch-scratchers in the Roman Empire strategy genre.
This is a genuinely good game, it is such a shame that it has been abandoned. The only thing holding this game back for me is the lack of autosaves, one is never enough in a paradox game. Sadly, after years this game has never been provided more than a single autosave slot, and even the modding community hasn't been able to fix this. In good conscience, I can't recommend this game to anyone who doesn't enjoy Ironman mode.
Genuinely depressing this was abandoned by Paradox. It had a rough launch but was fixed, mostly just lacking flavour. They abandoned it the moment the game became good. If you're playing now, I recommend playing with Invictus mod. It adds a lot of flavour to different areas of the map. Something about the way you slowly expand in this game and build up your settlements, urbanizing certain areas and extracting resources feels so satisfying to me
I like the game but its unplayable. Its a Civil War and rebellion on every 1 or 2 year simulator. And you cant prevent it. The game tells you that every one of your prominent noble families needs at least 4 (it starts with 3 and can go up) positon in government or in army. You give it to them and they start to become stronger (I get it its how it goes irl, but they failed to optimize it in game). I tried to change whole government after every election, still doesnt help. You conquer province, spare the enemy nobles, give them positions in government, integrate their culture, give to their pops citizenship and they still rebel. You do the opposite and guess what, they rebel. And it doesnt matter if you give them roman citizenship, the pops still somehow not happy with you. Given the fact that Rome's Italian allies fought a War against Rome to get literally a CITIZENSHIP from her. Oh and every rebelled province or enemy hires 20-30k mercs. 20k mercs is ok tho you can crush them very easy. But the instant one province rebels all other provinces starts to rebel and then the big surprise the "4th Roman Civil War" and you fight against 4 rebelled provinces + a civil war with 90k troops/mercs on their side and you cant raise all your levies because the wife of the governor of Illyria hates you so he is disloyal (he is the next years Civil War starter candidate). If you read this far, dont buy the game, play EU4 with Imperium Universalis mod its much better.
