Seriously great game. Found it by trying to watch a let's play by SuperHorrorBro Mike, only to stop myself halfway into his first episode so that I could purchase and play the game for myself. Pros: - Great gameplay: With the many power-ups, minigames, and stage-specific twists on the formula, there is a great variety of mechanics that continually spice up the hide-and-seek format. Between the main level objectives and the optional collectable chests, every level feels perfectly filled to the brim, neither tiring nor short-lived, and the difficulty curve over the course of the game drip-feeds new mechanics exactly right, so that you're never too comfortable. - Great voice-acting: Each of the puppets were fun to listen to, and are well characterised by their design and their voice-actors. Even when playing the game three times over I still found myself smiling at their lines (especially Riley's theories on puppet evolution), and constantly hearing them in their levels never got annoying. - Great story-telling: The story-telling between the in-game cutscenes and the collectable cassette tapes is delivered really well, the dialogue is entertaining and intentional. Having distinct characters between Owen himself and each of the puppets, as well as an interesting premise overall, lends to a captivating story. - Great collectables: From cassettes, to costumes, to posters, to VHS tapes, to busts, and oh so many felt puppet heads, the game has a great array of things to collect to awaken the inner completionist. The cassettes and VHS tapes were especially great, and I wasn't expecting so many. It was also a nice touch that the episode posters had blurbs about their fictional episodes. Everything else has no deeper meaning, but slowly populating the hub world with them was greatly satisfying. - Doesn't overstay its welcome: Personally, I felt that the amount of levels and collectables were of a perfect amount, and by the time I was done with the game, I wasn't finding the gameplay to be a chore. Cons: - Misc. bugs: A lot of the bugs I've found have been fairly non-intrusive, such as spawning in the floor when returning back to the hub, having the game's music play over itself when returning to the title screen, or some broken subtitles. There are a few bugs, however, that do disrupt gameplay. Very rarely, I wouldn't be able to hear the footsteps of a puppet or the heartbeat indications of it being nearby. More commonly, if I was near a puppet when it teleported away after its performance, I would hear the heartbeat indicator constantly, for the longest time, no matter how near or far the puppet actually was. - Vague lore in places: While I enjoyed every scrap of story the game had to offer, I found myself coming away from the game with a bit of confusion about certain points of the plot. These parts are ripe for analysis and theory work for someone like the game theorist, but as an average player I don't quite understand some aspects. I don't often go for all of the achievements in games, but Hello Puppets: Midnight Show was entirely worth it. This game is absolutely oozing with love and care from Otherworld Interactive, in the gameplay, in the story-telling, in its core design even, and I felt like I wasn't respecting it properly until I'd explored every inch of it. It's an absolute crime that this game hasn't received more coverage, and I sincerely hope that it receives as much love and attention as Otherworld Interactive has clearly put into it.

I really can't recommend this game. There's definitely stuff to like here, but it's weighed down by gameplay that often just feels flat out unfair. There's very little way to tell exactly where the puppets are; an arrow or indicator would help, because the sound alone doesn't work. What's worse is that they're faster than your regular speed can't escape them, your stamina is very limited, and when you run out of it you slow to a crawl; compounding all these issues because it's incredibly hard to put distance between you and them. So when you're looking for a hiding spot you'll often run directly into them and the frenetic pace when trying to escape makes it incredibly hard to open and close hiding spaces or see where they even are. The pointer is supposed to help tell you how sighted you are, but you'll be hard pressed to pay attention to it when scrambling to escape. They also will spawn right on top of you and stay there forever, meaning you'll be spending most of the game inside lockers waiting for them to frick off. They don't have real patrol routes either, meandering back and forth and back and forth in front of your hiding spot. Distraction items are also a pain to try and use, because with as narrow as the corridors are coupled with no knowing where they're at means you'll often set them off just to run into them on their way to check on them. There are mini-games to keep them from breaking into a hiding spot, but some of them are very poorly explained leading to unfair deaths you simply didn't know how to avoid. Sometimes it also really feels like they just act up and don't play by the rules anyway. The deaths are another problem. The nature of the game wouldn't be so bad if death wasn't so unforgiving. You basically get three lives, and when you lose one you also lose all of your collected items, as well as the 'quest items' if you don't return them to the puzzle solving area. What this functionally means is you have to go back and retread places you've already been to get everything together again, and when you lose three lives you're out and have to start over. With the game being so relentless and the deaths feeling so unfair, this will get old and -fast-. Overall, it could be fun, but the issues and unfairness weight it down tremendously. I lost patience with the game really fast.
If you heard about their first game Hello Puppet, but you cannot play it since it a vr game I recommend Midnight Show, it is a very good game. There a lot of things to do and it a story rich game and the ending twist is really interesting to see.
Had to give up after doing 4 rounds of the same hide and seek game. I came from the VR Hello Puppets game expecting some more of substance, and was frankly left with wanting more. I powered through the last hide and seek section just to know more about the lore.... but I just can't continue with the repetitiveness - YouTube play-through's I go...
THIS GAME IS SO GOOOD!!!! The graphics are amazing, the voice acting is silly and sooo goofy, theres a bunch of secrets, broken subtitles, places where the puppets get stuck, a few things are broken, but thats what gives the game its charm! <3
Why spend 17 bucks on this unity ass game when you can get SKYRIM for 15.
The most ass gameplay i have ever seen, the creator probably just copy pasted every level and add something new in it, the last couple levels are also so incredibly hard that i just cant finish the dang game!
ist nicht geil fertig
First off, screw puppets....not the game, just in general. The game is a lot of fun. Granted, you do spend a lot of time hiding. It's your basic, run, hide, search and repeat game. Nothing wrong with that. Some people prefer them, some hate them. it's all in preference, but I do enjoy it. It can be a bit frustrating at times, but overall, it is fun game. I would like to see better explanations on some of the QTEs. Some don't make sense, do I need to keep mashing a button or do I just hold it? Some are confusing, but they are quick time event's. The puzzles aren't too complex, which is nice. I hate having to deal with an extremely complex puzzle while constantly hiding and never getting the chance to move forward. So they did an amazing job with that. Other than that, the game is graphically well done. The movement and controls are great, it's not too complicated to find where you need to go. There is a map telling you. The hunters are a bit over zealous, but I can deal with constant chases. Once you get the hang of it, it can be very fun.
let me leave an honest review because i know that there are so few. the story was well and the music was nice, but the game was lacking some advise. The puppet AI seemed a bit rough, even to the point where once an extra Handee had joined the audio just cut off The models had bugged when they tempered to where Nick Nack's body was completely dismembered. Even in the reflections of shiny items were weird because in it the entire door behind me disappeared. The ai was not in its prime because In the final stage it would stalk me until showtime. I do enjoy the game and thought it quite fun, even if it was hard to play till done. The characters were charming but Nick Nack is my favorite out of all the Handee's performing. "Fear my deadly revue!"
