I bought this game because I saw SuperHorrorBro play it, and I thought it would fun to give it a try. Unfortunately; the game is fraught with many issues that made the experience very unenjoyable. On the plus side; I did enjoy the game's story, and the graphics are charming in their own way. However, that's about where the positives end for me. First and foremost; I found the actual gameplay loop almost agonizingly repetitive. The same object searches with the same minigames fighting the same enemies in the same stages comprises the bulk of this game; with the occasional fetch quest sprinkled in to break up the monotony. Each stage ramps up in difficulty, sure; but not as much as you'd think. I also encountered several bugs and glitches; some merely annoying, while others almost game-breaking. Item and door hitboxes are pretty bad. For example, if I want to open a certain locker; the one next to it ends up opening instead. I was convinced for the longest time that one of the door bracing minigames was bugged since it was difficult to figure out just what the game wanted me to do. Characters clip through doors quite a bit. However, the worst bug occurred during one of the end-stage puzzles. I got killed while holding a flashcard; and I lost the flashcard, essentially soft-locking the game. I had to restart the stage, and I was quite mad about it. In summary, I wish I had just watched the lore videos on YouTube instead.

While I enjoy the style of this game (the voice acting was superb!) - I ultimately cannot recommend it for the bugs and controls itself. Some bugs I encountered only two hours in (two Nick Nack levels, one Daisy Danger level, one Riley Ruckus level): 1. Stuck being crouched and unable to stand back up - I did ultimately manage to fix this by running about the room for a bit, but it continued to happen consistently. 2. Attempting to unlock a chest with a padlock only to get interrupted by a puppet at the closet door, which led to the UI of the lock being stuck on my screen and merging with the hiding minigame UI. 3. Getting stuck in a locker and unable to move or leave it (had to reload the entire level). 4. Unable to put any gold coins into the collectible machine and instead receiving the noise notification that I had none (I had three). 5. Subtitles cutting out before the voice acting is done/subtitles not working despite being turned on. Needless to say, I requested a refund.
dont play on steam deck

EDITED: Leaving my original review so you can see the shift in my thought process. I first said this game will claim a piece of your SSD, and it does. I thought I'd uninstall it after finishing it. I became one of the Ach. Hunters I grew to pity. I did not expect to keep it so long. This is the first game I felt compelled to 100%, and I dont know why. In my time going through and doing so, I have fallen head over heels for the game. I liked it before. Now, however, I seem to have some strange "I hate you but only because of how much I love you" feeling towards it. I constantly spit quotes that take inspiration from the puppets. The chase themes are engrained in my head. I bought a VR set recently because I want to experience the original game for myself. I'm at 86/100 trophies, and counting. I dont know what this game has done to me, but if I turn my back on it, I fear it might stab me <3 ----ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW----- I played this entire game in one sitting. I force quit it, but then immediately rebooted the game because I waited so long for it to go on sale. A lot of the other reviews are right; you will feel a sense of relief from finishing the game for the simple fact that you don't have to play it anymore, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I didn't experience a lot of the "bugs" people are referring to where you'd be caught through walls, lose items, or have unplayable sections. I DID however, experience the awful AI that I actually did enjoy somehow. To me, the AI did feel good in the sense that it doesn't just "camp" an OBJ area, they will search the entire level looking for you. It's once they find you that you'll have a rough time. Even after it performs a "check" on the hide-spot you're in, it will still be able to see you a mile away, looking in the opposite direction, resulting in the game slowing to a crawl as you jump into a locker for the fifth time in a minute because ol' Nick Nack just had a hunch and re-materialized next to you. The Level design, is good. The execution of each area is repetitive, but so much worse than you'd think, that it actually loops back to good. The second time I went into each level I was thinking "oi, this again", but everytime after that, I found myself enticed by remembering where I'd already been, and where my next set of cards could be, or what puzzle it would have for me. I really enjoyed getting back with all of my cards and solving the final puzzle, despite hating doing it the first time. The overall theme is something I enjoy. I don't see many games like this so every time I find one I try and play it. As bad as the voice acting was, they did know how to set the tone. The Puppets DID have some good one liners... The game was pretty well executed. I really didn't lose my mind until the final section, but that was my own fault. If you're looking for a sign not to buy this game, ignore it and buy the game. Play it in one sitting, get through it, and uninstall the ♥♥♥♥ out of it when you're done because this game will claim a piece of your soul as long as it sits unfinished, taking up space on your hard drive. I pity you achievement hunters Good game, would not play again.
One the worst games to waste your money on. The game play is lackluster and often times broken. :(
