Reviews
FTL has taught me two important life lessons: 1. Never trust giant alien spiders. 2. If your oxygen catches fire, you're probably having a bad day. This game is basically a space captain simulator where every decision feels important until the game reminds you that RNG is the real captain. You'll spend 30 minutes building what feels like the perfect ship, only for some pirate with three missile launchers to show up and ruin your entire career. And yet... you hit "New Game" immediately afterwards. The combat is simple to learn but surprisingly deep. Pausing to issue orders while your crew desperately runs around putting out fires, repairing systems, and fighting boarders never gets old. Every run tells a different story, even if half of those stories end with your ship exploding in spectacular fashion. Unlocking new ships completely changes how you approach the game, and there's always that feeling that *this* is finally the run where you'll beat the flagship. (Spoiler: it probably isn't.) Yes, the RNG can be cruel. Sometimes you'll find amazing weapons early, and other times the stores seem to have collectively decided to sell nothing but disappointment. But even when the game kicks you into the vacuum of space, it somehow feels fair enough that you blame yourself... most of the time. Over a decade later, FTL is still one of the best roguelikes ever made. It's challenging, endlessly replayable, and responsible for more "just one more run" moments than I'd like to admit. 10/10. My crew died heroes. Mostly because I accidentally vented them into space.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

All of the review below entails this difficulty score. - EASY - very small file size, quite pleased by that. I really DO want to rate up the game.. but the games just not meant for me. I will not be refunding because the art and code put into the game is worth supporting. if you love being punished and surviving by the seat of your spacepants/ the punishment of a high end darksouls game, you may enjoy this. This game is not for the faint of heart and punishes very frequently. based on your luck of the draw, there are just some Paths upon warping into a new sector that near guarantee the end of a run. and I am one unlucky son of sol in this game. some story risk zones will straight up finish you off for arriving in them. if in the medium to low health range. There was no other path to choose, just Death in both directions several times, on a Y shaped path. -Heavy micro manage game, which sometimes ignores your clicks on crew tasks at times. - Crew reaction times can be... difficult. and im not talking for the slower crew races. - anti person droids often struggle to win a 1v1 fight. much less four boarders which can be the norm. they cost just as much as a high end weapon. and don't preform extra crew functions, your better off hiring crew you can heal far faster/ dont require power that can be stripped via nebula. (auto repair droid feels alright, but would be nice if they could prioritize tasks or repair faster. make it worth powering them on!) - upgrading was a significant learning curve even with the tutorial system. resources feel as though a Feast and famine effect, including for health and repair stations. - VERY punishing progression system, you could do everything right, and still fail aka (zero out with nothing to show for your time in game) - some story risk zones will straight up finish you off for arriving in them. if in the medium to low health range. you can loose crewmembers based on story. or be that last man in a now empty ship with a string of bad luck or just one boarding party/ fire/ or oxygen leak. sometimes all three at the same time. ++ the art is very pretty for pixel art in game, the stories feel well written, and different faction encounters feel fun. + weapon builds are pretty cool and allow for unique combos and do offer different playstyles. (if you live long enough to acquire any)
You command a vessel that consists of many rooms in a 2D grid with crewmembers to operate them, you must manage the power to each system to keep your shields online but also have enough firepower to take out the enemy while commanding the crew to run around and extinguish fires, repair damages and fight off enemy borders while simultaneously targeting the enemy's systems to render them useless. This game is very challenging on its intended and hard difficulties, with scarce resources and many decisions one wrong move could be the end of your entire run, keeping the tension high as you traverse each sector to gather more scrap to power up your ship while still outrunning the rebel fleet. Lots of micromanagement as well as macro decisions. Although the combat is real-time with the ability to pause at any moment to carefully decide what to do and command crew/ship actions, the game acts more so turn-based where you wait for your weapons and abilities to charge to use them in bursts to try and take out the enemy's offensive capabilities before they take out yours This game is truly a classic and I love it very much, the artstyle is simple yet nice with an immersive soundtrack. If you truly master this game and crave for more than the game has to offer, there are mods out there that greatly expand the content of the game.
Amazing game. One of the best ever. When I got tired of vanilla I was even happier to find the mods.
good game
The base game is already an absolute classic and good fun. One of the OG roguelikes that honestly hasn't spawned THAT many copies. Some have tried, but its like StS in that it is too perfect of a game, that any derivative of it can only be worse. Hypocritically tho, if you have played enough of this game and want more, try the Multiverse mod. It multiplies the game's content by about 8x across the board. Some bits are a little bit fluff but its a good stepping stone if you are just wanting more FTL. But absolutely play it without the mod first as even the mod does dilute perfection.
This is easily one of the best games ever made. 14 years later it still feels amazing to play through this game and beat the federation flagship.
Why does anyone enjoy this game? How much abuse do you have to take before you get good enough to win *if* you execute everything perfectly and also get lucky? More than I am willing to subject myself to. I don't get people.
