F.I.S.T = Fun, Intelligent, Side-Scroller with Talking Wabbits.
For a metroidvania style game it's fun and if you think Steampunk is an interesting aesthetic for game design wait until you experience Dieselpunk! The fighting mechanics and upgrade system is similar to other games of this genre; However, I won't be getting in to that because I'm lazy and it's slightly a spoiler in ways. The animations and character design are well done and perfectly fit the narrative of F.I.S.T. The music is great as well! It's far from being a perfect game and can get extremely hard as do most in this genre (or maybe I just suck at these games). Other reviewers have mentioned that there's a bit of running back and forth. This is indeed true but if you've ever played a single metroidvania style game in the past you should know that this is always a possibility in this genre. For that reason ignore those newbs. But be warned, if you play this game semi casually you're brain may forget where you've been or where you're going next? Hello? For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It's a fun game to go through. The presentation is very good, the music is not bad and the controls and combat moves of your character are quite good. While some fights could be challenging, the game is quite easy, partly because you end up with so much health at some point that you don't need to play very well to get though most of the game. Also the game does not feel like it has been well thought out in that the combat system is very rich and lets you do long and convoluted combos if you want to but there is no situation in the game where you can take advantage of it. The level design itself feels badly done with way too much backtracking, an innefficient placement of fast travel spots and a lot of empty spaces to walk though. I don't really care if the story in a game is bad as long as I am having fun and here it is a good thing because the story, the dialogues and the voice over are not great at all. I still had fun playing the game and would not recommend against trying it but I would not go out of my way to recommend it to anybody, notably because it is plagued with stutters and cases where textures take too long to load in.
Sinopsis

Plenty of passion, not enough play testers. I really wanted to like this game, and I did at first. As the game went on it started to slow down and quickly become cluttered with awful enemy encounters and some of the most tedious backtracking I have ever encountered. The combat system is fun at first until you realize why all your attacks feel off is because all the moves have to be unlocked which is fine, however the problem then becomes much worse when enemies very quickly start ignoring your stagger and cut your combos off repeatedly. The combo training mini game examples just how awful and unresponsive the combat system really by making you perform combo strings that do not connect reliably or at all most of the time. I really wanted to like this game but numerous bugs and atrocious performance problems on top a really unpolished combat system drag this game down to a slog to finish let alone one hundred complete it, which I did because I hate myself lol.
F.i.s.t. was a surprisingly well crafted metroidvania, that deserves way more praise. The story and world building were quite enjoyable, the map design was excellent and so were the power ups and upgrades unlocked throughout the story. It is a more combo based action game, with an emphasis on exploration and slowly building your skills to their former glory, as opposed to Nine Souls, Blasphemous and Hollow Knight which flirt more with the souls-like tag. It is by no means a braindead easy game but it's leaning on the less sweaty side if you are used to the forementioned titles . You can easily finish it with less that 10 deaths and that was a nice change of pace for me personally. The game looked phenomenal too, both with max ray tracing on the PC and even without it on the deck, it looked stunning at times. I would often find myself pausing and take my time to suck in all the beautiful volumetric fog, screen reflections and rain effects. They truly nailed the steampunk megacity setting! Highly recommended!
♡ TLDR ♡
Mid little metroidvania that turns extra sour at the end, leaving me bitter and wanting it to just be over. Overall, if I were to look past the final boss frustration - This game is just so very average. Its nothing special - and it is easy to say you wont be missing out bypassing it. There are so many other incredible gems to find out there. I beat it with 28.9 hours but I cant tell you how much of that I was AFK. Howlongtobeat says 12.5-20.5 hours. $16.00 USD seems reasonable, if you really want to play it.
♡ DETAILS ♡
Games like these really make it tough that there is no 'meh' review. There was a few things I really liked about F.I.S.T. and a lot that was just mediocre. However, there were a couple things that I thought were so awful, they overshadowed the good and swayed this into a negative review.
♡ MOVEMENT ♡
A bit slower than I am used to on metriodvanias, but you get used to the style, movement, and interactions between them and the combat. I kind of felt like this game was missing a run ability (or something similar to HK's crystal dash) to move through large sections of the map more smoothly than just spamming dodge.
♡ ART ♡
The graphics seemed ok, nothing to write home about - honestly just mid. The animations were the same. I did however like the style and ambiance of the game. The streets and city lighting was very nice to look at, and the music was enjoyable. Voice acting was ok on some and silly on others. I feel like it could have done without - not only voice acting but the direct narrative. Some cutscenes were unskippable - which was quite annoying when they were right before a boss fight where you may die a few times and be forced to rewatch them on loop.
♡ DIFFICULTY ♡
Much of this game starts out a bit slow and unintuitive. It takes some getting used to on the navigation, menus, abilities and ability tree, directive and weirdly enough - finding the exit game button (I know I'm not the only one as there is a whole /r of people who didn't see it!). In general, it wasn't very challenging in combat or platforming for the majority of the game - which brings me to my biggest complaint. 4 achievements and 3 end game upgrades (per weapon - meaning 9+ skills) are locked behind "Master Wu's Training" which is a complex combo based challenge mode. The multi-string combo sets include movement, attacks, and mid-combo weapon switching that gives you no time to actually do them. When it comes to weapon switching, the animation takes too long to switch and the combo times out telling you that you have failed. After probably 30 minutes of not even completing one combo, I gave up and accepted this achievement was a no go for me. But after looking it up, I realized that it was 4 achievements AND ALL THE FINAL WEAPON ABILITIES... are you kidding me? These remained locked in the skill tree on the final boss and completion of the game - which outright feels bad. On top of this, the entire game is manageable, bosses felt challenging but not over the top - until the very end. The final 2 boss fights you'll be met with the fastest, most obnoxious enemy that makes you feel like the game is cheating. While he is allowed to combo you to death, your combos constantly get interrupted. If you do somehow manage to get him trapped in a combo, the game will just teleport the boss to safety. 'I'm sorry, you aren't allowed to win that much - enjoy wasting your special moves on air'. You may be mid combo, and the boss will just decide its his turn now, knock you out of your combo, and juggle you taking 25% of your health in an instant - unavoidable since you were mid animation, and cant cancel what you were doing. But I digress.... I just wanted it to end, and the final 2 fights pushed me into feeling sore about the entire experience. It did not end on a high note, I didn't feel glad to have played it - but instead grateful it was over. Throughout the game, I wanted to clear the map and get all the stuff as I think that's a big part of the fun of a metroidvania; the combat through traversal and the hidden secrets. I didn't bother though, knowing I was unable to get the 100% achievements with the training challenges made it a pointless waste of time. Oh yeah, I nearly forget - there was a parry... but apparently it was you just walking (movement - Left stick) into the attack at the perfect time? It was utterly useless, kinda cool when it happened on accident I guess... certainly nothing you can count on to save your bacon!
♡ MAP AND NAVIGATION ♡
Takes some getting used to, but it makes sense as you learn the game. I will say though, when you unlock fast travel locations, they seem to use a completely different map - and the locations are not marked in a clear way - so its really hard to know where the fast travel locations are going to spit you out. The quest objective also doesn't display on the fast-travel map either, so often you have to pop between the 2 maps and hope you are going to the right place! This could be done much better - it almost feels like an oversight you'd see in a demo or an alpha version of a game.
♡ BUGS ♡
Every now and then you'll load into a room and the space wont render - leaving you floating in a blue-grey space with a few assets till the game catches up. I experienced some stuttering at times and often an enemy might get punched into the terrain - who knows if they are still alive in there...
♡ STORY ♡
Ok, to be honest - I wasn't expecting a full on furry game - I know it seems obvious, but for some reason I just kinda didn't expect it to deep dive into a whole world of "furtizens". Perhaps its cause the trailers were in Chinese? Either way, I was expecting something... different. Its fine I guess - some may really enjoy the story side of this - but I felt it was very much lacking. I honestly didn't care about the story at all as it was quite boring and the characters were just as bland. /)/) ( . .)
♡ FINAL THOUGHTS ♡
There are worse games... but there are also better things to spend time on.
TL;DR: yes Pros: + Nice world. Immersive. + Looks so good. Graphics very nice and detailed. + Combat can actually be quite complex and is satisfying once you get some combos down that work for you. + 3 very different weapons that you will prefer depending on your play style. + Nice soundtrack (I wish the repeating loud noise on the main menu could be muted so I can listen to the music!) + Not normally a fan of animal-people but it just works with Chinese folklore. + Would definitely play a sequel or spin-off. There's potential here. China is getting really into animated series at the moment (to compete with anime) and I'd watch a series that expanded on this world. Would it be 2D or CG? Not sure. + Later bosses actually require strategy. Mid: ~ Map design: You can tell a good map layout from the bad once the end is near. Once you need to start revisiting areas to collect optional missed things with new abilities, if it's an absolute slog to get from one place to the next, you can tell when the map starts to fail. There are large chunks where there's no shortcuts or teleporters even close to where you need to go, especially the slow and tedious underwater parts. I'm a Metroid veteran so I'm likely very biased here (or experienced?). Starting from maybe Prime 2, Metroid got its act together with traversal. Fusion had minimal backtracking, which is no good, and Prime 1 had way too much, but later games really shine with their end-game maps when item hunting. FIST misses the mark somewhat with exploration and layout. There's no point taking the time to explore while in an area because, unlike Metroid which can get you new optional abilities/weapons, FIST has none. You'll find maybe something somewhat decent like a health or energy piece, but it'll likely be another disk or poster. You're better off just heading to the objective marker and coming back later with all abilities. Some areas feel like a slog to revisit instead of having an itch to get there to see what waits for you. Gripes: - Don't slow/hinder my movement when characters are talking! - Lack of puzzles. There's ONE actual puzzle right at the END of the game but it was too little, too late. - Parry. Instead of a dedicated parry button (should have been L2, replacing the useless "cycle through weapons" button), the developers opted for you needing to be standing completely still and then tap the stick towards the enemy before the attack lands. This can go two ways: It can go the Metal Gear Rising route and be so completely broken it can be abused to remove all danger, or the FIST route in that it never bloody works when you want it to. I can get it to work 80% of the time when I'm actually trying but trying to parry Cicero with him screw-attacking all over the place with the stick you use to move is just not going to happen. Eventually I dropped the parry mechanic altogether and completed the game without it. There is no point in the game where you MUST parry. It's completely optional. - This game is clearly an action game first, an adventure game second and a platformer third. The platforming sections can be frustrating at times mostly due to how it handles. I want the option to be able to swap the left analog stick with d-pad. Precision is key in Metroidvanias when platforming and a stick just feels off for a 2D game. Metroid Dread was the exception because it has 360-degree aiming and also Metroid is the top-dog with a lot of things, including handling. With this, I want to move with the d-pad and swap weapons with the stick. - Some minor gripes of cheap enemy placement just to whittle your health down a bit to force some tension. The boss at the bottom of the mines (the demon hand) pinned me between the wall and itself twice and I couldn't get out so I just had to let it kill me.
