EARTH DEFENSE FORCE: IRON RAIN

To preface this review, I had read many of the reviews prior and even watched some gameplay, but out of morbid curiosity I wanted to try the fairly unique prowler class and see if there was even a single redeeming feature that maybe could even justify an impulse purchase during a massive sale and thought to myself how bad could it really be? Turns out this is little more than the early alpha of a no-name chinese mobile game in terms of quality; if I had a dollar for each decent and working feature in the game I would have like 3 cents. Everything from the graphics to the gunplay is uninspired and lackluster. The weapons are pathetically underwhelming, if they even work at all, there's only two classes at the beginning of the game and air raider has been relegated entirely to consumable items (all items, btw, punish you for their usage on top of needing ingame currency to even use), the currency system is deliberately crippled in an attempt to get you to buy it with real money, and all the enemies look like free assets for college unity courses with basically none looking like they actually belong in the game. I've seen a few people coping about how if this didnt have the EDF label on it, it would be received better but you couldn't be more delusional with a take like that. It cant even breach the "its so bad, its good" theshold; everything is a slog, the AI doesn't work at all, the enemies range from completely incompetently useless to lets-stunlock-the-player-into-oblivion with pretty much nothing inbetween, and you actually have to use 3rd party modifications just to change the fov and actually see what you're doing. Progression is somehow both braindead and needlessly complex at the same time, with very little standing in the way of acquisitions outside of atrociously bad choices themselves and a terrible grind exasperated by how short the game itself is. It has none of its own merits to stand on, regardless of what it's name is, even insect armageddon was better and that was a trashy western cashgrab when it came out, too. It's not even worth getting it on sale. If you gave this game to me for free, I would still want my money back, stay away no matter how steep of a discount.
