Spoiler-Free Review: Finished replaying the base game for the second time just now, and went ahead and finished both the DLCs for the first time. Not realizing that there wasn't cloud saves for this one made me go through another playthrough to get to the DLCs but I'm not mad, rather happy that I got to play it through with another class and another playstyle. For the base game, you'll realise soon enough why it's considered to be a tough game. It's oppressive as hell, but if you push ahead, nothing will permanently stop you. You adapt, you learn and you ultimately get past areas, bosses, and yourself. The optional bosses in the base game are arguably the best that it has to offer, so don't miss out. As for the DLCs, Ashes of Ariandel was a mixed bag for me, with an okayish environment that got old fast, and enemies that were a bit tedious to get away from. As for the bosses, the main boss is a endurance fight, one of the very best in the game, and the length of it caught me off guard. As for the Ringed City DLC, I enjoyed it a lot. The traversal and the design of the map was top notch, and the enemies, while brutal, are satisfying to beat. The two main bosses not counting the semi npc fight, were astonishingly good, and epic. The optional boss is proabably the hardest boss in the game and one of the toughest, yet one of the coolest bosses to fight and defeat. The game brings the Dark Souls saga to a close in a beautiful manner, melancholic in a way, with the best feeling boss fight, and a sombre close to the chapter of the Dark Soul. This game is not for everyone. It can be highly oppressive at times, and borderline confusing during phases, but it is cathartic in its satisfaction of a playthrough, and it's maybe why, people continue to flock into souls games. Good luck, Ashen One. 9.5/10.
Possibly my favorite Souls-like game as it is the one that truly got me into them back in 2016, now 10-years later I still enjoy it just as much as I did back then. Say what you say but imo the whole Dark Souls trilogy is a beautiful experience and I love them as they are.
Absolutely the best Souls game ever made. One of the most underrated aspects of this game that nobody talks about enough is the rhythm rolling. I loved Sekiro because it forces you to parry in rhythm, and Dark Souls 3 has the same philosophy with its bosses. Every boss has a pattern and an attack rhythm that forces you to learn it and roll accordingly. Once you find the rhythm it becomes one of the most satisfying feelings in the game, just rolling in sync with every attack. The bosses are memorable and their backstories are buried in item descriptions, but once you dig into it everything becomes even more meaningful. The game doesn't feel too hard or too easy either, it's challenging and difficult but always fair. Every location feels distinct and you can genuinely feel the difference between areas. Even the run back to a boss after dying is perfectly tuned. Not too long, not too short, just enough to feel like you're gearing up for another attempt rather than being punished. If you are looking to 100% DS3, luck require, therefore, try life
the camera angles in this game against the nameless king 1st phase is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥, the boss is not even hard, u are fighting against the camera angles. other than that, peak game
How is this 10 year old game $60? Sure, it is a good game but $60 a decade later is a bit of price gouging.
THE FIRST BOSS ALREADY BEAT MY ASS
Not literally 1,000 times... but enough times to make the point. Dark Souls III is HARD. And weirdly enough, that is exactly why I think I would probably love it. I have not reached the point where I am completely addicted yet, because the frustration is still winning a little. But I can already see why people love these games. Every mistake matters. Every boss feels dangerous. And finally winning after getting destroyed over and over again feels way more satisfying than in most games. For now, I am taking a break. Maybe one day I will continue it together with my good friend MadMax. I have a feeling this is one of those games I will hate first... and love later.
RECOMMENDED - IF YOU ENJOY SUFFERING.
I hate this game JK, I just perfected the game It's a classic I mean it doesn't even matter what I'm gonna say However, a very great game, won't recommend it for casual players though Edit: Actually, I think I made a mistake So lemme fix it by talking more about the game I'm not much of a story guy, when I load up a game I just play like if I wanted a story in the first place I would've read a book or watched a show But as I was playing the game trying to get all the emotes and doing random stuff to npcs along the way, it really hit me how sad actually is the story of the game Dark Souls is much more than a challenging game, It's beauty, the kind of bitter beauty that exists in our very own lives The countless times you have to challenge a boss...the very idea of hollowing when you die, and just leave the game, the game doesn't tell you what happens in the world next Your character simply loses purpose, it becomes a "hollow" Isn't that similar to life?, if you won't try, then your story won't progress, making you a kind off a hollow yourself My whole life I spent thinking and joking about ds games are the furthest thing from good story telling Only now I know, only now I see, DS's story wasn't meant to be read standardly, it was meant to be felt. And now I feel it myself Sure, it's not perfect, not at all, but the game was built with vision, and that vision is very true It was a very fun journey, thank you for reading till this point
