DS1 isnt as hard as the rumors make it out to be, now hear me out because if you think im bragging youre completely wrong Im what you call a "mediocre" mechanical player, not bad, but definetely carried by experience, ive never been that good at games that require tons of precise mechanical inputs, hit scan in fps, rhythm games, precision platformers you name it, like i struggle with the "main story" but get wrecked when i crank up the difficulty So i was scared and very intimated when i first started DS1, ten years ago, on july 2016, i barely got to the first boss, got wrecked and basically said "indeed this is very hard" and basically bailed out, and the years passed, one day looking through my steam last played games i noticed that DS1 PTDE was almost 10y and something ignited on my head, i thought to myself "10 years later and you havent beaten this game yet? shame on you" And so i decided to give this game a chance, still scared, but now with much more experience of "Souls like games" i played carefully, not scared, and then the game started "clicking with me", instead of treating this game like a DMC or GOW or bayonetta game i started treating every encounter as if i could get killed with a single hit And thats the main point i want to make, in that this isnt a make about making frame perfect rolls or blocks, but about being patient, disciplined, observant, analitic, and the perfect example is me About the game itself its nothing that you hadnt heard a thousands times before, whats with the exellent game feel, music, ambient etc But one the one thing that i loved the most was the feeling of getting lost, and i really mean it, the feeling of exploring and ending up on a whole new zone was intoxicating for me and this game has that in spades, even more so than recent 2D metroidvania games and even some open world, each area its very distinct and iconic, with its own enemies and traps I enjoyed every damn second playing this game, so take a chance playing this, you most probably wont regret it and if you start remember, DONT YOU DARE GO HOLLOW

Nothing will ever match the feeling of unlocking that elevator in the Undead Parish and realizing it's all connected. That was a jaw-dropping moment.
One of the best games ever created. Cured my depression. Highly, very highly recommended
what is the point of reviewing this now, when it's taken down off the store? this is one of the best games ever made
Remastered is better overall but I've grown to love PTDE.
Dark Souls is the best souls game from FromSoftware and I will die on this hill. Okay, I'll elaborate a little. Is Dark Souls a bit clunky? Does the gameplay feel a bit primitive compared to Elden Ring? Yeah, maybe. But man, this atmosphere. This gloomy, dead, rotten, melancholic atmosphere that FromSoftware never managed to reproduce to the same level of perfection... The lack of dialogue and cutscenes fit perfectly with the ambience of this game. And I don't think it works as well with Elden Ring, but I'll stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on it because I'm not here to put it on trial. Even little details of this game made it truly unique, like the weird way our character seems to moan when he gets bonked on the head by a large hammer, or the way he screams after dying from fall damage, like all his toenails just got ripped off simultaneously. You've probably heard a lot of people say, "Wow, Dark Souls 1's map is so beautifully interconnected!" And that's just true. Dark Souls 2 did have a hub, but then the world didn't make much sense, and Dark Souls 3 didn't really try to replicate it. And Elden Ring is an open world. It may sound like a detail, but at the time, this was just incredible world design.
Genuinely one of the best games I've ever played. Nothing will compete with that first half of the game going in basically blind and not knowing wtf I was doing in a world as connected as Lordran. The atmosphere, combat, unique enemies, SFX, and of course that Firelink music really creates a mood and cycle that has you feeling both broken and accomplished. It sucks they delisted this masterpiece for a $40 remaster which, from everything I have seen, looks worse artistically speaking (with the only main advantage of being 60FPS without mods and having active multiplayer... though I do think the MP for this version would have been fixed and kept up had a remaster not came out).
É dark souls.
Isn't this game delisted at this point? If you got it and still haven't played it, boot it up, it's still fun!
Masterpiece. This game took me a while to get when it released but once I did I would go on to play it through several times and across different systems. FromSoftware was delivering an antidote to the games in this genre being released at the time. It made the enemies moveset relevant, it let you interact with enemies via a parry and it gave you a limited amount of weapons and moves that all had impact. It achieved all this by stripping back the layers that had been added without care. It reduced the speed of play as well as the player and enemy moveset to give back space for interactivity and thought. Intentional play. It also stripped back all the spoonfed aspects that all games were starting to drown in. Gone were all the endless tutorials and NPC dialogues that would remove all mystery from the world and with it all opportunities for player discovery. My favourite part of it may be the interconnected map. An incredible piece of gaming design.
