Adorable creatures, gorgeous scenery, and a story that makes you THINK. Not one to skip.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It was alright. If you're here for a functional collectathon with light creature collecting elements then this game is for you. It's a bit linear, but the world was fun to explore while there were still new things to find in it. Would i replay it? Probably not. Am I glad I finished the main story? yeah sure, why not. It scratched the itch of thinning out my backlog. Honestly, I wish there was just slightly more interactivity, and while it makes sense story-wise why certain parts of the map were becoming impassible, it was still a bit annoying.
My score: 4.5/10 ⭐TL;DR: A beautiful creature-collecting adventure with a genuinely great idea, but an identity crisis, tedious exploration and quest design, undercooked mechanics and some seriously broken technical issues.
Overview
Sometimes you just want to sit back and look at pretty colors and adorable creatures. I went into Creatures of Ava expecting something like Pokémon without the combat, but instead found a strange hybrid that doesn't really resemble anything else. Unfortunately, that's less a sign of originality than an identity crisis: pseudo-Zelda combat, a convoluted world where you're constantly disoriented, RPG-like progression and creature mechanics that feel seriously undercooked. The real breaking point is the technical side. The game looks quite good, but it's surprisingly demanding even on low settings, while visual and mechanical glitches start showing up within the first few hours.
One Thing I Liked / One Thing I Didn't
✔️ Liked: The idea. There's a genuine spark here that could have given birth to an entire genre, or even a franchise. ✖️ Didn't: The world design. The map rarely helps you find your way through it.
Key Points

DIFFICULTY:
It's not difficult; you actually have to work a bit to die. There are plenty of secrets, but the tutorials swing from excessive hand-holding to barely explaining some mechanics.

STORY:
Very story-driven, perhaps with some Xenoblade Chronicles X ambition, but everything feels rough and underdeveloped. The game's social messaging is also so ever-present that it occasionally breaks the immersion, especially when its emphasis on non-violence and identity starts feeling more like a statement than world-building.

PRESENTATION:
The creature designs are well thought-out and coherent despite their limited variety. The environments are imaginative if somewhat familiar, and the animations are nicely done. Unfortunately, the soundtrack occasionally sounds suspiciously familiar — I caught more than one full octave that reminded me of Metroid Prime 3. The audio is also particularly prone to glitches.

GAMEPLAY LOOP:
You “purify” infected creatures, tame them with your flute, then control them to use their abilities. It's a neat concept, but repeated ad nauseam, with too few abilities to justify it. The main and side quests don't help: they're often painfully long fetch quests involving a lot of unnecessary footwork across the map.

TECHNICAL POLISH:
Easily the weakest point. Audio can go out of sync or restart in a loop after a few seconds, which is incredibly annoying and immersion-breaking. There are also genuinely broken mechanics: I encountered a rescue bot that kept spawning creatures indefinitely, allowing me to farm XP and potentially reach the level cap through one broken loop.

MONEYxCONTENT VALUE:
I bought it as part of a bundle and was happy to do so. Had I bought it separately, though, I would have asked for a refund. Even as a completionist, I have absolutely no urge to play this one again.
A beautiful game, brimming with charm and spirit. The bridge to the
mausoleum
was very cool. The
sky lanterns
at the end were awesome.
Game was good, graphics were nice and the animals were cute. The ending was a slight twist. However, I just couldn’t get myself to finish the dunes part and went into YouTube to watch the ending instead.
Creatures of Ava is heartwarming, charming, beautiful, and incredibly fun. Although I purchased it at launch, it took me more than two years to finally dive in (such is the plight of a distracted gamer)—but I am so glad that i finally did. Victoria is an instantly lovable protagonist, and the "expeditionary biologist-turned-veterinarian with archaeological tendencies" angle is fantastic ;) . The premise instantly reminded me of one of my favorite childhood books, Wayne D. Barlowe's Expedition (a narrative artbook featuring a protagonist with a similar role). Associating the game with that narrative artbook is some of the highest praise I can possibly give. Between the great voice acting, pleasing and cozy aesthetic, the gorgeous 2D anime sequences which opened the game, and the stylized in-game animations featured throughout the playthough, the production value is wonderful. The unique combat (elusion?) mechanics actually reminded me of the anime The Elusive Samurai, where the primary goal is to dodge your opponent. Creatures of Ava takes this a brilliant step further: you are actively healing these creatures while dodging their attacks, which felt incredibly fresh and engaging. Most importantly, I fell in love with the fauna, which is truly the heart of the experience. While I usually appreciate completely bizarre, non-terrestrial creature designs, the choice to use more "familiar" looking animals works beautifully here. It cleverly helps players connect the game's environmentalist subtext with our own very real, very endangered, yet equally beautiful natural world. This is a fantastic experience that is well worth the asking price but if you are still unsure about it, wait for a sale...there's one going on as I type this review which allows STEAM users to purchase the game for less than half of the original asking price. Now is the time to buy and try, my friends.
