Challenge of the Warlords
~8/10~
Probably one of my favorite games. Late review. This is the original rom from the Nintendo DS era, also released on PC - while I like it, this version on steam is clunky and difficult to handle. It does not have the extra DLC content from the Xbox/iOS, but it can be patched in... it is not well integrated, and I found the base game is enough. Think if Bejeweled was an RPG. There are some unfair mechanics though - AI is programmed to find the best move, and it seems to see ahead to colors that aren't there yet? Regardless, this is made up for not using as much spells? Honestly could have been tweaked, but it's not terrible when you get used to it. There are two difficult fights I had in the game, and I might as well get them out of the way. The first major boss at the dwarven caravan and the final boss; both are difficult but can be worked around. I think much of the game is best blind, so if you listen to me I'd say give it a shot, it takes awhile to adjust and it's an old game. Regardless, for veterans who have played this particular game before, perhaps don't get this copy. I think it's noteworthy when the community section has discussions and guides in the front section on how to get to work on windows. I doubt this game will go on sale, so that's really all I wanted to add - hopefully this was helpful.
i understand how candy crush mums get so locked in, but this is better because no microtransactions
A rare timeless classic. There's no reason to play any other Match 3 game, this is the one to go with.
A classic game that became classic the very day it came out! It wasn't hard to tell that this game was going to be something very special for many years to come when it first released on the Xbox Live Arcade back in the day! As someone that's been playing it so long I can tell you that the game is hard to beat, but that's mostly due to the last boss in the story mode more than anything. I see allot of reviews here that talk about how the enemy A.I. just wrecks them, and I can assure you that this can be avoided. In other words those people don't know how to play the game. On that board, you go big when it's there to go big, if it isn't, there's little to gain from trying to gamble that something big will happen by making a match haphazardly. In other words, you see a match of skulls take it, you see 4 of a kind take it. If not, match as conservative as possible! That means horizontal matches, and try not to do them under skulls or anything else you don't want the enemy to get. Oh, and NEVER match vertically! Force the enemy to take the chance, and wait for the right moment to strike. This won't completely stop the random chaos from happening as it's in the game's nature, but it will reduce it a good deal to something much more manageable for you, the player. So many people here got it wrong, but still love the game anyways, really shows you just how special this game truly is. I should also mention that there are several ways to play the game! There's single player story mode, or you can stay away from the story, and just do random fights to level your character up, and buy items, in order to buff your character up outside the story mode, and last there is multiplayer. The sites, the sounds, it's all great top shelf fantasy goodness. Perfect for a challenge, or to be whisked away into a fantasy world, or just something to chill with to kill time while you listen to your music. Puzzle Quest is diverse! It's simple to run for all PC's I would think, and is small in file size. A game that should be in most everyone's library!
Back in 2007, nobody expected "Bejeweled with RPG elements" to be this big a hit, but it was, and despite the game balance being a suggestion, it still holds up years later. You can even mod in new content, with the modern expansions having been backported to this version if you know where to look. This mixture of casual gaming and role-playing character builds is definitely worth playing!
I was looking for this game for a long time. It was my favourite on the old laptop back in my childhood, looking at it now, in 2025, it's nothing more than a simple 3-in-a-row game now, you can play this only if you have nostalgy. The ost is simple and annoying, art quality is okayish, the gameplay is old as dirt, but i still like it. I am glad i found this game after so many years, not without chatGPT help of course
Nothing like losing a half hour game to five 5 matches from nowhere. I am not playing casual games to raise my blood pressure ffs.
A simple game with an interesting storyline that can be played with just the mouse. It's a somewhat cozy game for me.
