Reviews
Crafting items for temporary boosts for each building is a micromanging nightmare, the squad/battalion/legion system combined with the unit cap makes no sense and the random triumph goals are annoying and unnecessary.
Interesting game. It's not another civ clone. It does it's own thing. In some ways i think it's better than the civ series (and im a big fan of civ having played since civ 1) in that the mechanics i.e. economy and military have greater depth and realism. It's a civ-like game but brings elements of Anno and its own unique mechanics and flavor. If you are a fan of civ-like games or Anno series, you would probably enjoy this one.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 31: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

I got this game when it first came out and was off-put by how much micromanagement was involved. I started up again recently, the developers seemed to resolve most of my issues with the game and I'm having a blast with it now. Highly recommend if you're disappointed with latest Civ game.
I changed my review because the devs responded, and provided a working fix for my issue. With that being said, I recommend the game, as it is a fun approach on the human history genre in my opinon. [strike]It worked before, but now it won't launch. It just says "running install script()" forever.[/strike]
When the group of gamers that wanted a Civ look-alike are done raging about how bad this game is, the rest of us can maybe focus on how ARA fares under its own power. This is not a 10 out of 10 game, but if you are not expecting a Civ wannabe, then ARA is actually pretty good. ARA incorporates some city builder mechanics into a not completely familiar - yet refreshing - 4X setting. To keep your cities happy, you will need to produce resources that can be worked up to ever more efficient bonus goods for your citizens. These goods you mix and match to improve stats like health, happiness and security. It's pretty fun, though people that loathe micromanagement best leave this game on Steam's virtual shelves. The game does a lot to make things manageable, though. Most information panels allow you to make changes right there. For instance, the workshops overview let's you change output, bonus inputs and the assignment of specialists right on that overview, for all workshops in your empire. There are a few issues with the interface. The most pressing are how stacked units that have different orders can be difficult to individually be selected, and you will constantly be opening building panels when you are actually trying to navigate to a turn notification. These issues do not detract too much but it would be nice to see them fixed. Overall, a very enjoyable game that makes me wonder what an ARA II could look like.
Interesting game play mechanics and looks good, but I ultimately requires too much micromangement and had a poor selection of leaders for factions. Feels like they wanted to have different leaders than other Civ like games but their choices didn't really interest me.
No region abandonment/trading is really keeping this game from being playable for me. There seems to be no way to abandon claimed regions. One turn after I claim a region several resources spawn right next door. Can I abandon and pick the resource laden one, No. Instead I have to wait for the city to grow to get it. Oops another faction claimed it before I could grow again, can I trade for it diplomatically, No. Can I fight for it militarily, No. My only option seems to be burning that factions city to the ground AND having to wait for growth to be able to claim it. If this sort of thing was a rare happenstance, ok -- but its basically happened to me every game. Often multiple times. This does not seem to be good gameplay. Is it something hard coded into the build or a design philosophy of the Devs? Either way it sort of breaks the immersion and frustrates me as a player which ruins what is otherwise a seemingly enjoyable game, for me anyway. Here's hoping Region management gets updated in a later build, would return if it was.
One of the most underrated games of 2024. Yes it has a learning curve and some parts of the game design feel unpolished. But man this game is a blast. It combines the best aspects of 4X with the economic depth of a grand strategy game like Victoria III. Very refreshing.

https://youtu.be/Zsyh4wulDso
This game is similar to Civilization, but with much more attractive graphics and many details in controlling and building cities, with much easier management and very attractive game play, it will immerse you in the game for hours.
