Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA

캐릭터 매력적이고 스토리 좋습니다. 이스 입문작으로 해봤는데 왜8이 인기가 많은지 알 것 같네요. Jrpg좋아하시는분들은 꼭 해보시길

I came across the Ys series a good many years ago, and I've played through them sporadically, knowing that they're reliably going to be very well put together, if somewhat simplistic overall, action adventure RPGs. All of them have been consistently good times. Ys 8 here has been a cut above the rest thus far. The writing and pacing, while not world-shattering in general, are both a good few steps above former entries in the series, with no hesitation to touch on some of the darker topics of existence, including a bit of gnosticism, fatalism, and waxing philosophical in general. It's only mildly heavy-handed about it here and there, but to me it gelled well enough overall with the approach to the story. The gameplay is very comparable to Ys: Memories of Celceta (which I happened to play right before this one). In fact it felt like a very natural progression from that entry to this one (including some references here and there). As well put together as one might expect a Ys title to be! No complaints! The art style change was refreshing. Nothing too outlandish. I enjoyed how they brought it all together in keeping a kind of anime-like style (common throughout the series) but bringing it to a more modern level of graphical fidelity. They managed to make a very beautiful little (enormous) island for us to explore as well. Very cool, overall. The soundtrack, hoo boy! Like everything else Ys, one can always count on some nice jaunty energetic tunes to listen to while sprinting madly around slashing up critters and bad guys. Once again, however, Lacrimosa of Dana has pushed the envelope a bit further here. Many many songs were good enough that I would stop moving for a while just to listen to them without combat noise getting in the way. The night hunt theme, mountain pass theme, and of course the main theme (and all of its many variations throughout) are all notable to me. There wasn't at any point a moment where the music was unwelcome or got boring or tedious to listen to. Good vibes! Not too much else to say. It's just stood out to me as being enough of an improvement over the rest of the series that I felt compelled to leave a favorable review now that I've 100%'d it and am moving along to other games. Just over 100 hours (to be fair ~20+ of those hours was me leaving it running with my controller's joysticks strung together to get the "use each character for 5 hours" achievements on characters I didn't want to play as) and no regrets! Well done Falcom and NIS. Well done indeed!
