Reviews
The game would have been far more fun if movement speed were doubled or even tripled. The puzzles were fine, and the gimmick was alright, but even when you know the solutions to the puzzles it takes so long to execute them simply due to the plodding movement speed.
Really awesome, chill and unique game. It's kinda nostalgic because the graphics look like they're from Source engine. Really loved exploring, unlocking new abilities and collecting everything. Exploring was especially interesting because of the way your character moves. It's just a really cool and cozy game, and all in on being fun. If you like what you see on the store page, get it. It'll not disappoint. (Tip: Running at 120Hz was causing time to slow down kind of, going back to 60Hz made it way more fluid - try it out if you face the same issue)

this feels like the kinda game that would show up on the ps3 store without any explanation
Youropa is one of those games I couldn't immediately find any problems with, so I put it aside with the intention of coming back and giving it a proper play-through and finishing it. Well, that day came around, and I couldn't be bothered after giving it a serious try. But let's back up a bit... what is Youropa? Youropa is a slightly surreal 3D puzzle platformer. The idea is that France has somehow exploded into a weird, gravity defying mess. For no clear reason, you are a white dummy thing that gets painted, and you move from platform to platform... I found the lack of narrative to be really annoying. Portal did great at having just enough narrative to get gamers invested (the cake is a lie, blah blah). Youropa doesn't try, that I could see in any of the levels I played through. No serious attempt to engage your audience... that doesn't help put forward the case for this game. Gameplay itself is a matter of plodding (and I mean that... movement is painfully, needlessly slow and annoying) around small puzzle levels, touching activation pads and so on. The primary gimmick is of course gravity plane shifting, in an Escher-esque manner, you can walk up walls and so on and so forth. Working out the right path to take is basically what you do. Which I guess is why I didn't enjoy this. The puzzles are far from intuitive, there's no narrative or even meaningful pointers... basically if you play this seriously, it's going to boil down to alt+tabbing to a Youtube walkthrough and just doing what they do in the walkthrough. It just doesn't grab you, and Youtubing through a game is a joyless experience that's not worth spending your own money on. The game is a whopping 8 years old now, but in terms of technical delivery, it still holds up. In fact, the slick technical presentation was what hooked me into believing the game was worth a serious try. But I got bored after the first couple of levels, and all I could see ahead of me was more of the same. Regardless, while the game gets a pass on nice visuals, which are absolutely necessary for any game to be successful, it doesn't carry through into the kind of game I really hoped this could be. Ultimately this is the kind of game that you might enjoy if you love this genre and loathe all others... it's the kind of thing I wish Steam had a "maybe" option for when writing a review. Of course, a million reviews all saying "maybe" don't do anything to inform your buying decision. This isn't worth paying $15 USD for... an 8 year old snoozefest that you'll need to watch Youtube walkthroughs to finish.

Its puzzles are quite challenging, and overall it is a nice experience; however, you will likely get (quite) dizzy or unwell due to the fast automated camera movements. It feels polished, although there are some rare buggy moments, which can be circumvented through a level reset, if needed. The level design is good, overall.
Nice puzzle game. It gets better the more you play. Tip: You can't get the collectables at the very start. Come back later.
