Xenonauts is a respectable update to the original X-Com UFO game released by Microprose in 1994. If you’re a fan of the X-Com series, or the original in particular, I’d recommend this game. However, you should probably read below before purchasing. The most noticeable changes, outside of the game’s newer graphics, are an improved user interface that allows for better control over aircraft launches against UFOs, streamlined base building, a panel layout that makes equipping soldiers for battle easier and unlimited ammo supply for all weapons. Outside of these alterations, the structure, game-play, weapons and units (human and alien) are functionally nearly one for one copies of the original game. However, are a few problems with the Xenonauts, first is that your soldiers will have the marksmanship accuracy of a near-sighted, drunken storm-trooper. It’s not uncommon for very experienced soldiers to completely miss enemy targets as close as two squares away (about 10 feet in real world terms) even when equipped with a machine-gun type weapon firing on fully automatic. Worse, their aim is so bad that it’s quite common for them to shoot (and sometimes kill) friendly units, regardless of their experience level. That said, it’s not that much of a problem for overall game-play since the aliens probably have worse aim than your troops. So, it balances out. Another annoying aspect of the Xenonauts is that, as the game progresses, your troops will encounter more and more aliens which have Psi-ability (mind-control) that can either cause your individual soldiers to go berserk, killing their nearest comrade, or be taken over entirely to be used as a weapon against you. This was a feature of the original game, but going from my memory, their use wasn’t as frequent or severe in the 1994 game as in this version. There are a few other features that I don’t like – the original anime art style has been replaced with rather bland generic graphics, the music is uninspired, and some critical objectives are muddled, but none of these defects break the game. So, if you can put up with these annoyances, you’ll likely enjoy this game quite a lot.

I watched john wick and only saw their time units. I talked to someone and stopped mid sentence thinking i had spent all my TUs. Whenever i open my door I immediately close it so i can see whats inside without exposing myself. help
Similar to other reviewers, I wanted to enjoy Xenonauts. The game has a steep learning curve - which you can take as a pro or con on your own choice. I'm no stranger to playing say XCOM 2 on the hardest settings, but this game had me on Easy Mode just to try and enjoy what they've made. There's a good deal it does well. Base management, air combat. The flavour text on research is fun too. The UI for ground combat is very clunky, and if you make a mistake which is easily done (in my experience) that's your unit's action economy hampered. The pace of the game is a little slower, which I like in general with games, but the excitement isn't there for the ground combat. Compared to say the tension in an XCOM or Chaos Gate mission, or even the less life-and-death more film-noir of Invisible Inc, you complete a ground combat and it's very much just 'ok, done. that was that'. It's even worse if you decide to hold the UFO for 5 turns to complete a mission. Just checking for enemy activity, nope, okay, end turn. Repeat. It makes the process feel like a slog more than a reward. It's very punishing if you make a mistake, and it's easy to make mistakes. Some of the things you learn aren't so much a learning like 'Oh, oh damn it has a second health bar!' more 'Oh... ♥♥♥♥, I just lost one of my team like that huh? Crumbs...' Skill issue? Could be. But even doing well on Easy the game lacked enough of a hook to keep me going

When I was a kid, I loved to play to UFO, didn't understand a thing, but anyway the game was pretty interesting. As well as this one. And this game is literaly that good old game but in a new and fresh style, even though you see everywhere those pixel art. I liked the game, but most of it is the modes, that might widen your gameplay, or even ease it, if you don't a big fan of turn-based gameplay like me.
This game is a scummy cash grab by the developers to copycat the beloved XCom franchise. At its core, I would have really enjoyed a modern updated version of XCom and I did play several hours of it, but this game stayed in early development for its whole life cycle and then they dropped it's completion suspiciously right before they put its sequel on early access steam for $40. If you look closely at Xenonauts 2 though, it looks very similar to this first attempt. Basically they just updated this one and re-released it as a new game for way too much money. Then they published X2 through hooded horse which is a Chinese company who scoops up games which are on their last leg so they can grab their code and try to repackage and sell whats left. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of these scummbags.
The game is broken, bad guys can fire through walls, you can't

If you like classic XCOM you'll love this game as it is essentially an unofficial remake of XCOM with all the quality of life and visual improvements you would expect from a modern title, 100% recommend
