About
Warhounds is a turn-based tactical & strategy game, inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance, about a mercenary squad with an old-school action movie vibe. Command an elite team of bold, stylish operators, wage a campaign in an alternate-future Africa, and decide the war’s outcome mission by mission.
Calculate lines of fire and flank angle, break cover, and seize the high ground. Every turn is decided more by your planning and tactics, less - by RNG.
Combine classes: Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier. Pick the right gear for the job, treat and extract, and protect key operatives. Take calculated risks. High combat lethality makes every decision count.
Recruit, upgrade, purchase equipment, and handle logistics, finances, medical supplies, and downtime. Choose allied factions, build relationships, gather intel, and execute covert ops. Your choices have consequences: your decisions determine your access to missions, gear, and allies.
Deploy drones, combat scanners, smoke, and optical camo. Upgrade and improve your kit to win under any conditions.
Knock out a mission in 25-40 minutes, or settle in for a long session. Customize the challenge: go for a brutal tactical hell or a light, relaxing run.
No point-blank misses - flank + close distance = 100% hit chance.
Real ballistics, destructible cover, vertical gameplay, and cone overwatch.
Mercenaries with character and mission-focused loadouts without any busywork.
Base management, contracts, budgets, allies, and consequences for your actions.
Assemble your squad. Take the contract. Decide Africa’s future beyond 2035.

Even with this low play hours, I can tell I like the game. I play on the easiest difficulty, I do not care about XCom hard. Yet the game is hard, because the enemies simply are too many. You get easily overwhelmed. And Darmat power (the enemy) barely grew a couple levels. Probably will have to restart at some point as my economics are in minus no matter what I do, I simply do not earn enough and I have to wait a lot of days to heal everyone up and rest them. Maybe some balancing patch in the future will help. One thing to note, the game crashes a lot specifically at level load. But I have infinite saves, so not really a problem. I urge the "nay sayers" to review their negative reviews after the first couple patches. The game runs smooth on my RTX4080, the only bug I saw is the level load crash
The existences of XCOM2, Jagged Alliance, and Phoenix Point make this game entirely unnecessary. It adds nothing to the genre, doesn't do anything better than the previous games, and actually manages to regress a fair bit. By no means comprehensive: - Long load times, even with a beefy computer - Absurdly long dialog between mercs. - No stealth mechanics at all. When you're in range of the enemy they're immediately aware of you, regardless of they have LoS to you or not. - Janky line of sight, particularly when shooting from elevation or below. You'll shoot through cement floors, or other obstacles which should not allow for shots to pass through - Models will poke through the environment. - Most of your time is spent on a map waiting for things to happen. - People familiar with this type of game will expect on level up the ability to choose a skill for their characters, but most of the level ups in this game don't allow for skill selection, making characters of the same class mostly the same. - Redundancy of missions. In my first 5 missions, 3 of them were 'mine and get out', and the other two were kill everything. With the upcoming release of Zero Company, there is no reason to buy this game. I can't think of anything it adds to the genre.

Played Zero Company recently and then came back to Warhounds. The difference is hilarious. Zero Company: “holy crap, this looks amazing” (and lagging like hell 😂) Warhounds: “holy crap, I need to move this idiot or he's dead”
I expected an XCOM clone and got… a pretty decent XCOM clone. And honestly, that's exactly what I wanted.
Had a pretty good time with this. The first few missions were honestly a little too easy for me, but once I started experimenting with positioning and overwatch things became much more interesting. There’s a nice rhythm to moving forward, securing an angle, setting up a firing line and then trying to bait enemies into it. My biggest concern is variety. The core combat works, but I hope the full game gives us more interesting objectives than simply clearing the map. Give me hostage rescues, timed extractions, defending positions, destroying equipment, etc. The foundation is there. Now give the player more reasons to use it.
The AI needs some work. Had enemies standing in pretty questionable positions and occasionally making moves that just didn’t make sense. On the other hand, when everything clicks, the firefights are genuinely fun. So yeah - polish the AI, add some more tactical options and we’re cooking.
Really good atmosphric game with well thought out mechanics and nice sharp graphics. Just dont expect polished AAA quality from this but it is still an absolutely great adventur for a few nights
The first impression didn't exactly blow me away. But I’m still playing - game looks solid
People complaining about the lack of originality are expecting way too much from the genre. What exactly should they do? Replace soldiers with chess pieces? Warhounds has some interesting interactions. The story is fine. A lot of combat gear, interesting skills (sniper’s triple shot is my favorite so far)
