About
Lured in by shared nightmares, madmen travel to a remote island crowned by a silent Tower. No one remembers the journey.
The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is an open world RPG built around exploration and connection. You learn the land by walking it, following rumors, reading scraps of burned history, and meeting lost souls who wandered to the ends of the Earth, following the same feverish dream of a light buried beneath the Tower.
Somewhere in the depths is a theater with an empty stage, waiting for an audience. As you repair or ruin the lives of the island's inhabitants, the phantoms they leave behind take their seats in the audience. The more seats you fill, the more the island listens, and the greater the applause for your final act.
And if you don’t want to descend alone, you don’t have to. The entire game is fully playable in co-op: explore the island together, delve into the depths for treasures, and make the choices that will decide the fate of everyone on the island, and beyond...
A wild, ancient island to explore
Follow leads, find shortcuts into the Tower, stumble into side stories, and piece together what is real and what is mere delusion.
Open Ended
Most quests have multiple resolutions. Mercy, violence, compromise, deceit.
A large cast of bizarre characters
Many strange folk find their home on the island. A giant toad learning to read. An ancient skeleton who just wants to swim. A musician from a faraway land hunts for something precious. Everyone has a theory for why you’re here. None of them agree.
The Amphitheater
Your choices change the world. Treat others with kindness and generosity, and a trusted friend will take their seat in your audience. Fail or abuse them, and something darker takes their place. The House fills either way.
Visceral Combat with multiple weapon types
Punchy combat against strange horrors
Full co-op
Play the whole game together. Explore the world, share the spoils, and decide who you will become, because the consequences belong to all of you.
The Tower does not call the whole. It calls the broken, the wanting.
Fill the seats. Start the performance. Find out what is buried at the bottom of the well.

How ARE these lads outpacing AAA development, anyway? If an early access game like this is this fun and feature-rich at this stage of development, I can't imagine what kind of traction beam of a game Morrowind was to those who actually played it. ♥♥♥♥ YOU TODD HOWARD

What a beautiful love letter to what Bethesda used to be. I can tell that there is care being poured into this game, you have to look no further than the map: a 3-d, highly detailed look at the world you're in where you can even spot some of the enemies if you look close enough. And that's such an important detail to this game because there are no quest waypoints, no yellow line or arrows to follow, just basic directions... and it works! There's a darkness and a weirdness to this game that I haven't seen since Morrowind. Other games like Tainted Grail and Avowed have tried to do something similar, but there's something about this game that I find especially interesting. The game throws you into the world with a vague goal, but its up to you to go out and explore and figure out what that even means. And you'll find things that are bizarre, awesome and creepy. And speaking about darkness, your character's eyes actually adjust to the dark after some time (just a neat thing I noticed that I can't recall seeing in recent games). I should mention that this game is far from polished, which I wasn't expecting it to be right away. I imagine (and hope) the devs will continue to make this something special. Some of the few bugs I've seen so far have to do with armor and weapon visuals and some enemies despawning and reappearing after I've killed them. I also hope there are some improvements to the weapon handling. While bows feel good, I feel like arrows drop too quickly. I'd also like to see shields being a touch more responsive after a swing, and for there to be a larger hit distance for melee weapons (it feels like you have to run right into an enemy to hit it with a sword). Hit markers for larger things like giant slimes are also a bit odd, you basically need to hit it square in the middle for it to count, which is odd for something larger than your character. Overall, in a world where there are AAA games that feel like something churned out by [pick your most hated AI program], I'm particularly optimistic about what indie devs are creating, because they keep coming up with unique and compelling experiences like this. RIP Freg. You got absolutely whooped by a giant slime and I didn't even witness it...
Do you like Morrowind? If so, buy this game. If not, you are sad and I have no desire to speak with you any further. But seriously. I was a little worried about the "Early Access" thing. However these guys are doing what too few do: Actually continuing to update and improve the game. So please. Encourage them with a buy. We need to reward devs that stick to the promise made with early access titles and work hard to update and finish the game. And if this is the appetizer, I'm excited for the main course that is Holy Fool
LIZARD MEN I haven't found the Epstien Island dungeon yet I am level 1 and I don't care I WILL beat my head against the brick wall until I beat it. It has drugs and fantasy racism, welcome back, Dagoth Ur.
First off let me say that i do enjoy the game for what it is, It is visually a cool game with a unique world, but thats about all i can say for it. The enemy variety is lacking immensely all humanoid enemies use the same unity engine human template so a armless mushroom man or a skeleton snake will just run up to you and punch you. They feel very rushed in with no afterthought of how these enemies should work, second is that outside of the two main villages everything hates you and ONLY you, their is no fighting in between of the enemies and it just feels like your sent to the island to kill everything on it. I wish for some inter enemy fighting between groups that makes sense but it seems like everything teams up to fight you. Third is the world itsself, while I said I do enjoy the worldbuilding and level design its very shallow and every ruin seems to have just junk. There was about two places where I found actual loot worth going for, like oh great I found a pair of carhartt that gives me plus 2 to my sneak how lovely. Look asside the locations are just really nothing, they are telling a story sure I can respect that but going out of my way to the top right of the map for a unique location only to have just nothing at it, like twelve bucks and a golden McDonalds sticker basically. Fourth is random encounters, the lack thereof that is. Once you clear a area then thats it, if your trying to be morrowind at least have some sort of random encounters or respawning enemies. because it gets boring running from place to place when you clear everything in between. Lastly is just the lack of wildlife, their really isnt any neutral wildlife roaming about. no animals to speak of, snails and slugs dont count like actual wildlife that is neutral to the player. All and all I do like the game for what it is, but at this stage I cant recommend picking it up for 17 dollars or even 15. This game is worth 10 bucks at this stage and that is me giving it the most praise, we say bethesda games are as wide as a ocean deep as a puddle, unfortunately thats this game too, It is fun with friends but I suggest waiting about a year before picking this up when tangible content is added
Played for 40 minutes with a friend of mine then the game crashes (it crashed probably 4 times). i lost all progress even though i saved religiously throughout playing. i understand this is early access but i hope this gets fixed becomes more playable.
This is such an amazing game. First off, you have nostalgia for Morrowind and even a little bit of Oblivion:Shivering Isles vibes. On top of that, exxcellent voice acting with a much wider range than even Elder scrolls games. Then add an exceptional soundtrack, modernized movement and combat while still maintaining that old school feel, a unique art style with a penchant for an acid trip and you're left with a game that just feels like home. Buy it. You'll get your money's worth.
This game is so fun! The world and lore are really interesting, the story is intriguing and a little unsettling, the NPCs are quirky and unique and fun (watch out for the bread seller... yeesh!) and I can't stop playing. It plays like an older Elder Scrolls game (which makes sense as it was inspired by Morrowind but without reading a novel every time you're talking to an NPC). Graphics are nothing to write home about, but I think that's a stylistic choice. Combat feels very Morrowind, too... so make of that what you will lol. Definitely recommend this for anyone who enjoyed Morrowind and/or an old school Bethesda RPG.
*Very* broken game, I can clip through any locked door pretty easily with any intent whatsoever. If you spam run after your stam runs out and hold it, you just get to run infinitely, for some reason gaining more stam than you lose. Pretty much anything in this game can be broken in your favour. The favourite item/quick equip only works about 30% of the time. Going between weapons and spells is a herculean feat. Some quests just don't work for turn in, there's very little variety in items, the desync in multiplayer is laughable, both in terms of location/combat and time of day. Certain perks that are supposed to only apply to one weapon type actually apply to ALL weapon types, making combat silly at best. Cool ideas, but not even ready for early access imo. Janky fun with friends, but realistically you should wait to purchase this for a while. Goofy cast of characters/interesting worldbuilding, but man this is the most unfinished feeling game I've played in a very long time. If the genre wasnt so dry, I guarantee this would be review bombed into hell for what it's like at the moment, but a scrolls like that has any depth at all is so rare, it's refreshing to see someone try. I wouldn't play this alone, but I will prob keep playing it with a friend. The bugs are entertaining at least. There's an outrageous amount of work to be done, hope the devs don't take the money and run! This is a very hesitant recommend as a sandbox with a friend!
