40K Boltgun is a standard, enjoyable boomer shooter at best, and a bloated, boring, frustrating mess at worst. Usually, unfortunately, the latter. This is the first negative review I have ever left on a game, and it really disappoints me. I really, really wanted to like Boltgun. I wanted to give it a fair shot. But as someone who has been playing shooter games for over half my life, Boltgun simply does not deliver. It is both far too easy and frustratingly difficult, often at the exact same time. Some enemies die on one to two shots, while others soak damage from every single weapon, even the so called "higher level weapons". Also, that part is just plain stupid. Why do the enemies have a level? Why do the WEAPONS have a level? It feels like a forcing of the "right tool for the job" formula that many boom-shoot arsenals have, instead of letting the player figure out what weapon works best for which enemy. Visual coherency is also quite an issue. Many enemies look the same at a glance, but can function wildly differently. Also, the shotgun is straight up the WORST SHOTGUN I have ever had the dishonor of using in a video game. Ever. Of all time. The entire game took me about ten hours to finish, and the whole while I was either bored, frustrated, or simply uninterested. The base idea is good however, and I really, really, really hope Boltgun 2 fixes many of these issues. If you are a big fan of Warhammer, you may enjoy this game, but if you are interested in the boom-shoot aspect first and foremost, you're probably better off playing a different one. (Like DUSK or Blood).

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 30: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 18 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,498 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Controller support is so bad that I'm giving it a negative review even though I really enjoy the game when it's set up as well as possible. Not to mention the shader compilation stutter. Unacceptable.
really good game the gunplays pretty good i wish there were a few guns that worked differently because they just werent very interesting not bad just a little bland the boltgun in particular damn near useless after the first episode the only thing i used it for were nurglings enemy design 10/10 the enemys were fun to fight level design 10/10 neverr really got lost but even if you do there is the robot to show you where to go which i used almost constantly i wish all games had a feature like this. music 3/10 it is the only game ive played where i genuinely just found the music boring i ended up playing my own after the 2nd chapter i tried giving it a chance but the game was much more enjoyable after words it just didnt have enough atmosphere or didnt support my crusade against the heretic scum overall the worst part of the game in my opinion. story 6/10 the cutscenes are cool im not a huge fan of warhammer so it probably went over my head a lot of the time but even then i still think it was good just simple a lot like the fist doom just there to support the carnage overall 8/10 great game but the music left me dissapointed
I love 40k and boomer shooters but this is aggressively mid. The weapons don't really feel good. The aesthetic is weird and you have to mess with the settings a lot to make it look not terrible. The levels are not particularly clever or well designed. The difficulty curve is weird and sharp. The chainsaw feels bad. I don't have faith that the sequel will be better.
Not a terrible boomer shooter but I have a lot of issues with it that have killed my motivation to finish it. The game felt that it got repetitive pretty quick. The game looks great artistically. The environments, the designs, and sprite work are all really good. Weapons are fun and have a good variety. Not a fan of how the plasma cannon starts to damage you if shoot it too much and also has AoE that can damage you, which can be annoying in a lot of situations. A lot of enemies are too spongy. Boss fights are a slog. It's just the boss spamming enemies to distract and annoy you so you can't attack the boss. The big melee spacemarine enemies that charge at you at full speed are one of the worst enemies I've ever encountered. They tank so much ammo, don't slow down, and cause you to backpedal until you get caught on something behind you that you couldn't see then take a huge chunk of your health. If you use the Vengeance launcher or plasma gun (since they do a lot of damage), most likely they will catch up to you quickly and cause you to damage yourself with its AoE. Also if you don't keep shooting them after their health hits zero, they'll revive. Such an insufferable enemy that kind of ruined the game for me. Finished Act 1 and pretty sure I got through most of Act 2 but I just got annoyed by the boss fights just spamming enemies instead of being an actual boss. Maybe I'll go back and finish the game one day but for now, I'd rather not. Hope Boltgun 2 will be an improvement but at this point, I've lost interest in it after this.
Basically a perfect game. Provides much more fun than its worth. If I had one gameplay gripe, it would be that grenades feel kind of limited. One technical gripe would be odd frame drops, despite a decent setup. Seriously, buy this game and play it.
This game is practically made for the steam deck
As a fan of OG doom and 5th ed 40k I had a lot of fun wiping out black legion very solid experience over all, 9/10 s few pros: -Art looks great, very naustalgic from all inspirations -Plays very well, super smooth. -Everytime I died I felt I deserved it. -All the weapons feel great, and I found a use for every one of them, but the titular boltgun felt the best, as it should! -pace felt solid, high intensity arena battles mixed with slow sneaking around areas. -great music! a few cons: -the secrets being timed power ups was a little weird and some of them were unclear how they worked -the final boss fight was annoying with the sorcerer's shield. -Not enough boss variety! really only 3 boss used over and over again for a game this long isn't enough! -the purges were kind of unclear how they worked, sometimes it seemed like I need to kill a big guy, other times it just seemed to end when I killed little guys but these are minor things that didn't really detract from the experience P.S. Ambuls were a fun inclusion!
