When it comes to fps I'm definitely a casual. I don't really play them anymore (Halo 2 or 3 on XBox would've been around the last time) so whatever skill I have is minimal. I also never really played much of the Warhammer games. After a bit of the Boltgun 2 demo, which I enjoyed, I figured I should give the original a playthrough. So my initial thumbs up is from that perspective. Played a couple levels on medium difficulty with a controller. Just half a second with a mouse makes it blatantly obvious that it's the superior option but I plan to play on my Deck so I might as well get used to a controller. It's pretty fun and of course 40k has some badass designs.
If you like older FPS action, this is a safe pick. Whether you're used to difficult encounters or want to dip your toes into the genre, there are a lot of difficulty options to tailor your experience. It's also a fun 40K game! I like Malum Caedo, and the dedicated taunt button for a singlerplayer FPS is a fun touch. The weapons and enemy encounters feel very 40K, I really feel like I am an astartes facing down the unrelenting hoardes of chaos. It's enough of a power fantasy, but the difficulty keeps stakes in place.

Good old-school shooter.
Decent boomer shooter and bonus points for the 40k setting and sound design! If you like 40k and boomer shooters you'll like this. However if you don't care about anything 40k and purely want boomer shooter gameplay, it can't compete with the likes of DUSK in both variety and depth of the gameplay. It does drag on too long without introducing new enemies, mechanics or changing up gameplay halfway through the game till the end.
