Ну я с ходов залип. Этих покемонов всех соберу.
I'm giving this game a thumbs up rating because it did exactly what it was supposed to do, I love the bones of what is here, and there's a ton of potential here. I want other people to play this game, I want it to do well, I want it to grow. But it's hard to fully recommend in it's current state. I played the demo and fell in love, this game seemed like it was what Monster Rancher always wanted to be. You get critters and get to actually control them in battle. All 9 monsters have fairly different play styles and control differently, and they all have a ton of different branching elemental paths and dozens of ability upgrades... and another skill tree to upgrade every member of the species. Eventually you unlock equipment that lets you give them powers and elements from other monsters, so the possibilities and theory crafting seem endless. Transformations even drastically change their appearance and you have near infinite coloring and pattern possibilities. The customization is fantastic. And for the first several hours of playing the game I had a blast. Unfortunately, unlocking all those hundreds of possibilities involves grinding out at least 16 copies of every monster if you want access to all their abilities and colors, and breeding countless offspring to try and get their stats up, and hatching and releasing hundreds of eggs, (which you can only do 5 at a time) all while grinding resources. It's tedious and slows down the fun. but the most problematic thing is the gameplay. There's only two mission types. Explore a fairly small map clearing out gunk, and survival missions where you sit in a small arena and just take out a bunch of enemies. Both are full of fairly dull enemies and lackluster bosses and once you have dodging down there's just not much there. The entire game has only has 27 missions total and they're all the same two mission types, with nothing to mix them up or add variety. And you'll repeat those over and over and over trying to get materials for your critters. And, even though all 9 monster species play differently, or because of it, it means you're very likely going to enjoy a couple of them and not click at all with the rest, which is a shame. You get excited to try a new critter only for it to feel clunky or weird... and also it has to compare to your other fully upgraded kitted out monsters that you already poured a bunch of resources into, and that's rough. I liked the first monster I got, LOVED the second, was indifferent to the third, liked how different the fourth was, and then by the fifth through the ninth nothing clicked or felt like it was worth the time investing in or they were too similar to something I already had. The variety of monster abilities and customization is fantastic, but there's nothing to DO with your critter after you've gotten it exactly how you want. There's also a bunch of issues with QoL features and menus management (juggling pages full of hundreds of nearly identical creatures is silly) , but they're supposedly working on those, and those are easy fixes, so I won't harp on them. The first couple days I played the game it was for several hours in a sitting, but it very quickly turned to "i guess I'll log in to do one mission to make progress" and then eventually "I'm so close to the end I suppose I should play a little more." And that's unfortunate. The monster creation and customization is AMAZING, it's just a shame that getting that customization is such a grind, and that there's nothing to do with it. Hopefully future updates flesh the game out and add more.
SKYLANDERS REVAMPED
I am addicted, I love creating the perfect voidling through splicing and breeding. I do wish there was a bit more to do; higher difficulties, more missions, more voidlings, etc. Though overall I thoroughly enjoy the game
I absolutely love this game!!! It scratches so many itches I didn't know I even had!! I need more!!!
I do not give this rating easily. This game was a great idea, but even the full release feels almost like a tech demo that cooked a little longer without coming to completion. There are tons of critter variations for the base 9 creatures with 3 tiers of branching ending with 16 final mutated forms. Wow, that's a lot of different critters to play! There's a problem tied to the main loop of the game here: there's not enough content to make grinding to try different mutations worth it and the mutations on their own are not worth the time invested. If you simply like tinkering, this by its own virtue may be fun for you, but you are investing a ton of time into repeating the same stages/maps (far more than any other creature collection game) for the sake of getting abilities that you don't already have access to. This on top of trying to breed for better stats, which I had to remove some of the tedium of using mods as training for the creatures (which is how you passively level creatures). There's a balance of resources that I don't feel feeds well into the flow of the game. Between finding eggs, breeding, trying to unlock more advanced facilities and in mission features, and end game tweaking of creatures, I felt like the time investment started off acceptable before slowing to a crawl and it felt like my time was being disrespected. The game is rather gentle and lacks difficulty on standard settings when you put a viable creature together for whatever your goal is. I don't mind having to do a map over a few times to hit whatever check mark, such as trying to complete the map under x amount of minutes. The collection features for the most part are fun as the maps do have very fun geometry to explore, great job on that front (would love to see the devs expand with updates or DLC). The progression feels paced well initially until you start trying to use new creatures. If the creature you started off with is demolishing everything up to a certain point and you either have a hard time or just want to try something new, you now almost have to do everything over again with a new species.... like, the exact same maps for quite a long time, before you see any progress with your new creature. Hope that you also pick an evolutionary tree that is effective as well because some of the trees frankly don't work in the majority of gameplay as effectively as others. That would be fine if they were rewarding in some other way or just mechanically fun to use, but that's just not the case and that's quite a bit of time to invest just to have to put that creature on the back burner. The end game system allows you to effectively customize creatures, which is awesome, but again the lack of content led me to use mods that cut a lot of the tedium out. Farming the resources for the sake of farming isn't enjoyable, especially if it's consuming hours of real world time doing the same thing over and over with little change. I imagine getting max stat creatures to take an inordinately large amount of time through vanilla gameplay, it took me longer than I would've like through modded means. Unfortunately it didn't really feel like it was worth it in the end as the endless mode didn't feel rewarding. The rewards from it were not substantial and it was too easy to randomly get one shot after hopping to the next stage (I understand that hopping 5 levels up is 5 levels, but going from barely having to manage damage to getting 1 shot after 5 levels is absurd), which causes you to lose *everything* from that run of the endless, no intermediary where you can save half of your stash every 10 levels or anything of the likes. Just everything gone, 20+ minutes of your time down the drain. There are also some UI elements that I wasn't fond of, notably the sorting (or lack of?) in the critter storage. It would be nice to dedicate a box to a specific breed. If we could have the game auto deposit into specified boxes, that would be an amazing time saver. It's not Pokemon with a huge catalog of different creatures, maybe I'm the only one that sorted them into one page per species. There are also stability issues that I ran into. My PC is quite capable, so I didn't run into performance issues much, but it would randomly crash and for a moment it just wouldn't work. I stopped playing, came back a few days later after attempting fixes that made it worse (no driver updates or game updates between this time) only to find that it decided to start working again after not being able to get beyond the intro screen. This was long before modding the game. *************************************** What would make me recommend the game: The customization needs to be accessible earlier in the game and the resources for it more accessible. You already can't breed customized critters until effectively all facility upgrades have been purchased and it's not cheap. I would make it more accessible earlier in the game and lower the cost to customize by maybe half. If you're going to time gate training, make it take less time or cost less resources (both?). Of course, make more missions to explore and more mission types. Some of the creature abilities kind of feel eclipsed by others because there aren't missions where they're useful at all. I know balance is always a hard thing to find, but some of the hard work that was done on this game is bound to be tossed aside after people find out some critter mutations are effectively unviable for any part of the game. Maybe make resources drop at substantially higher rates beyond the halfway point in the story? Like 25~50% or make more reliable ways to farm them. If mission content is expanded, this may not feel as bad, but it's quite repetitive as is and I only made it through by the grace of mods and curiosity. Some end game way of combining certain abilities at high cost would be a good replacement for just having high costs as is. Being able to combine 2 abilities per type (primary, secondary, and so on) or some similar feature would be very exciting to explore. You can even tailor it so that only certain ones can be combined so they can't scale infinitely (or let people break the game if they can figure it out :D). I have more constructive criticism to offer, but it has been a while since I played and can't quite recall all of my thoughts from when I was playing. On upgrades, maybe make getting more heals and some other upgrades tied to mission progress rather than use currency. It felt bad having to choose between advancing my creatures and picking the captains upgrades. Anyways, I want people to buy the game and it's on the cusp of being worth a ton of play time, I just don't feel like it's quite there. I still feel like it's a vastly expanded demo at this point. You guys have done great work, solidify this thing to make it worth the 25 bucks! If a few of these points are addressed, it would be worth the price from a consumer standpoint and would absolutely throw money at it later for a DLC or 5.
