Fun game. Would be great to play around Halloween. It was kind of easy on the normal difficulty and you have way too many weapons that are effective on all enemy types so there isn't much strategy, just use whatever weapon you feel like. However, the game is still a lot of fun, has good vibes, and decent story.
I want to start off by saying that I've been following Thomas Brush and his work for years at this point so I'll try not to sound too biased. I haven't really had much time to dive in to any new games in the last few years but having followed the development of Twisted Tower for longer than I can remember, I couldn't skip over this one. I've only put a few hours in so far but I have to say, this has been an awesome escape from work, life, and general stresses, leaving me wanting to find more time to jump back in and finish the game. The combat and the FPS mechanics feel unique but familiar, the visuals are totally reminiscent of Bioshock which is a huge nostalgia hit, and the story elements with the notes and letters found throughout the game has kept me intrigued to find out how the story ends. Some of the story elements are definitely deeper than I expected which I really appreciate. I think I expected more comedic relief with the whole Disney meets Willy Wonka vibe, but this works. As someone who doesn't really find much time these days to play a new game, the fact alone that I'm here writing a review says a lot in itself i guess? I understand this doesn't say much about the game in general but I have to give credit where it's due. Being able to pick up a new game and escape for a while and enjoying every puzzle moment, gun fight, and jumpscare has been really nice. A direct thanks and congrats to Thomas Brush for pulling this off! Stoked for whatever comes next. ONE improvement: a minimap of some format would go a long way LOL. It's taken me a little while to navigate and shamed to say I've been a little lost some times when trying to navigate back to the lobby!

NO SPOILERS----The game runs and plays very well and I experienced zero frame drops or major bugs. That in and of itself sadly in this day and age is a huge bonus. It's a 3-4 hour campaign if you just push through without really exploring. It has a very Bioshock like gameplay loop. The problem I have is the story and the world. From the outside looking in the world looks amazing but once you actually start playing, the game just falls flat compared to something like Bioshock. The story is as bland and obvious as expected. They pretty much tell you what is going on. I wanted to love this game because it looked like a really good Bioshock clone but I just don't. This is a one and done playthrough. I hope this team makes another game like this and they really nail the atmosphere and the story while keeping it bug free, FPS stable and same gameplay and feel. I see a lot of potential. Conclusion - A solid 6.5/10. Pick it up on sale if you want a dumbed down Bioshock with solid gameplay.
As far as boomer shooters go, this is a solid entry. It boasts plenty of weapon variety, and despite the slower-paced combat, the action still feels high-octane. While the game places you in situations that seem to demand your full arsenal, I rarely found myself actually needing to use the alt-fire, grenades, or movement options. These tools simply didn't feel designed for the combat segments, which is a shame. Other shooters in the genre handle movement and weapon synchronization better, but this game still delivers satisfying gunplay. Enemy variety is decent, requiring you to handle melee, short-range, long-range, and support foes in the latter half of the game. I appreciated the enemy designs; they felt authentic to the atmosphere and vibe of the world. The encounter order was well-paced, and the normal difficulty struck a great balance. Level design is solid. I enjoyed each environment, and while they are visually distinct, they all cohesively feel like parts of the same tower. The platforming, puzzles, and secret areas were sprinkled in just enough to add flavor without overstaying their welcome. The UI and menus are a standout. The developers truly outdid themselves here, as every screen is visually pleasing. The voice acting was also strong, though I wasn't a fan of the storytelling approach or the design of certain side characters. I liked the overall plot, but the way it was delivered and our limited interactions with certain characters left me wanting more. However, the twist at the end was fantastic. Overall, I'd recommend Twisted Tower. It's a fun experience, and while some aspects could be refined, it executes most of its elements effectively.
This is a great indie game and an easy recommended. Plays great, controls very well, and the mood setting is really on point. Music, ambient sound, noises...and weapons are very consistent with the setting, in terms of design. It makes me think of an Indie version of Bioshock, even though there are no plasmids (and the story here is unique, unlike Bioshock 1 which is a copy of System shock 2's plot twist) Some constructive criticism : - Not all weapons feel that unique / different from one another. And some really fall by the wayside even though you can upgrade all of them. Shame, I'd have loved to used them more often and not focus on one or the other. The ray gun (not sure that's the name) feels so so weak even though it's a late game weapon. - Those spider attack effects where the screen changes to a blurry green - PLEASE ALLOW US TO TURN IT OFF! It is by far the most annoying thing in the game
Twisted Tower feels like a love letter to the 7th generation of gaming in the best possible way, though it is far from perfect. I adored the spooky tone, the enemy designs, the soundtrack was absolutely on point, and the gameplay was fast and visceral. Sadly it is a bit on the short side, some of the platforming was a tiny bit awkward, and the main plot was both predictable and felt rushed. Despite these flaws there is an obvious amount of care and love than went into making this game, and I can confidently say that I had a lot of fun playing through it. For $14.99, I highly recommend it!
Richtig Gut....freu mich auf einen zweiten Teil.
It was an alright game, but I have mixed feelings. The Good: Mechanics are fun! Different types of weapons and fluid movement makes it feel good to play. The models are really cool too, especially when you look at the tapes and paper and they move as you turn them. The atmosphere was creepy and thrilling, some good jumpscares from enemies around the corner. I was really into the story too, telling the story through letters and tapes to give some context to how you came to Twisted Tower. The Meh: The level design felt a bit... meh. I was never stuck or anything, all went well. But it did feel a bit railroady and linear. Although I could go back an explore the areas again, it's still, like, railroady yk? Also, I didn't realise Thomas Brush was using generative AI to make the code, and there is no AI disclosure here. I'm on the fence about AI in creative fields and would prefer it not be involved. From what I've read, though, it sounds like only the code was generated which isn't so bad I guess... The "Bad?": I don't want to spoil it for potential players, and I don't know if it's fair to call it bad, but I didn't like the ending. Completely demotivated me from wanting to play this again. I get how it ties into everything. It makes sense. But like... blegh. Don't know what else to say without spoiling. Overall: It's an alright game!!! I think it's priced appropriately for what it is. I can definitely see the inspiration from BioShock, mascot horror, and Willy Wonka as Brush put it. Nice creepy feels throughout, the gameplay itself was good, but I felt let down by the ending.
really fun game with atmosphere and clean physics. I love the setting and weapons. Mechanics are solid and replayability is there. Would be cool if new routes were added over time to add to replayability but either way, game is fun! Also indie developed so check this one out.
Twisted Tower scratched the itch I couldn't reach. I've read a few reviews that try to liken the game to Bioshock which I can understand but honestly it's a fairly unique experience in itself. The 40s aesthetic caught my interest initially and the game play was really immersive. I felt like I genuinely was running around a crazy theme park and hotel. The combat was a good challenge without feeling grindy and the weapon acquisition and upgrading was a pleasure. I like it when there are rewards for mindless destruction! The only hang I have on the game is the ending. Without spoiling too much I'm just a bit confused. Every second right up until the end was incredibly enjoyable and rewarding though so I'd really recommend playing the game even if I am a bit lost now.
