[hr][/hr] [h2]THE GAMEPLAY[/h2] Tropico 4 is wonderfully simple to understand. You build things. People work in those things. The economy grows. People become unhappy. You build more things. The people become [i]slightly less[/i] unhappy. Then somehow they are demanding democracy again. Classic rebels. The gameplay is easy enough to learn without needing a degree in economics, but engaging enough that you will repeatedly say: [i]"I will just fix this one small problem."[/i] Several hours later, you are personally responsible for the island's economy, housing crisis, political factions, foreign relations, military, tourism industry, and the mysterious disappearance of several citizens who were definitely not important. [b]Very accessible. Very engaging. Very suspiciously addictive.[/b] [hr][/hr] [h2]THE SOUNDTRACK[/h2] Excellent. Dangerously excellent. The music is so catchy that even during an economic crisis, you may find yourself thinking: [i]"Perhaps things are not so bad."[/i] This is exactly the attitude El Presidente expects from the population. [hr][/hr] [h2]THE CHARACTERS[/h2] Tropico 4 has some genuinely funny and lovable characters, but [b]Penultimo is the real national treasure.[/b] He might honestly have the best characterization in the entire series. Not because he changes dramatically. Not because he has a complex emotional journey. But because Penultimo is [b]perfectly, terrifyingly consistent.[/b] [quote=Penultimo] El Presidente! A man whose loyalty has transcended politics and entered a completely different scientific category. And honestly? Tropico 4 understands something important: Running a dictatorship is hilarious [i]when everyone involved is an idiot except the player.[/i] The satire works because the game does not stop every five minutes to look directly at the camera and explain the joke. It simply presents increasingly ridiculous political situations and lets El Presidente deal with them using the internationally recognized methods of: [list] [*]Building another farm [*]Giving everyone a festival [*]Blaming the rebels [*]Bribing someone [*]Building a prison [*]Calling the previous decision a great success [/list] A surprisingly effective system. [hr][/hr] [h2]FINAL VERDICT[/h2] [b]Tropico 4 is simple, funny, charming, easy to learn, and dangerously easy to keep playing.[/b] The soundtrack is fantastic. The dialogue is hilarious. The characters are memorable. Penultimo deserves a national holiday, immediately followed by another national holiday celebrating the first one. And despite being easy to understand, the gameplay has enough depth to keep you saying [i]"one more year"[/i] until you suddenly realize your entire evening has been nationalized. The game is cool but the "Quit" button is pretty useless when the game crashes all the time anyways
