About
A brutal dieselpunk heavy-artillery simulator where you dominate the battlefield through a colossal war machine. Every lever, every dial, and every shot is under your control. High Command may send its orders, but the chain of command ends at your fingertips. They don't carry consequences. You do, Operator.
MAKE EVERY SHOT COUNT.
The teleprinters are calibrated to monitor local radio traffic. One delivers TOP-PRIORITY directives from High Command. The other relays direct calls from the frontline. Remember: every piece of information can determine the success of the entire operation.
Transform intelligence reports into a battle plan, get aerial photos that reveal the outcome of your actions, and watch your barrels reshape the landscape. The map isn't here just for measurements. It's also your window to the battlefield. Make no mistake. You can move the markers, but the scars remain.
Hammer the measurements, crank the numbers, and watch the ballistic calculator grind toward firing solutions. Drive the charges higher to blast shells across the horizon, or dial it back to arc them deliberately into enemy emplacements.
Beware: the machine may fail. You must not.
Breach bunkers with armor-piercing rounds, screen friendly withdrawals with smoke, and ████ █████████ with phosgene gas. It never happened if there are no witnesses. Every shell is forged for a single purpose, and whatever you choose will echo across the battlefield long after the smoke clears.
Haul the elevation wheel and watch the guns climb under your command. Match it with the exact propellant charge, or a surgical strike will turn into an avoidable mess. Precision is everything because neither flawless paperwork nor the finest propaganda will erase your guilt.
Drag the heavy lever and feel the entire structure shudder beneath your feet. A machine like IRON NEST doesn't spin on a whim. It takes time to swing that much iron with grace. Skilled Operators use that time to handle other tasks. After all, the coffee machine on your desk is there for a reason.
Pull the trigger, and let thousands of tons of machinery answer your call. Feel the turret recoil and watch the frontline crumble under the weight of steel. Once the dust settles, only silence remains, hanging heavy in the air, and the moment new orders arrive, it all begins again.

The campaign is set in alternate-history Spain in the late 1920s, on the brink of a civil war. In this timeline, the monarchy still holds power, and a republican uprising is spreading across the country.
IRON NEST is a two-person passion project from Nick Talmers (development) and Dominik Latos (propaganda). With 20+ years of combined experience and a lifelong obsession with artillery, interwar machinery, and dieselpunk, we're building the game we've wanted to play for years.
Nick has dreamed of IRON NEST for over a decade, and after meeting through developer-publisher collaborations, we decided it was time to bring this heavy spider-turret simulator, dripping with steel and power, to life.
The response has exceeded our wildest expectations. Thank you (truly) for every wishlist, message, and bit of support. It means even more because Heavy Turret Simulator is just the first step in the IRON NEST universe.

IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator is a first-person heavy-artillery experience that blends tactical problem-solving, complex war-machine management, and strategic decision-making into a genre of its own. The inspirations behind the game range from 1990s anime and Cannon Fodder to Nick’s passion for engineering and artillery. Also, we would like to acknowledge PVKK, which, in our view, helped shape the genre in which IRON NEST proudly stands.

So here's the thing before I start. This is an *objectively GOOD game* for the community that seems rabid over this thing, based off comments I've made on other platforms. It is well-made, immersive, with an original mechanic. But it is NOT for everybody (including myself) and I think in the midst of the delerious hype over this game more reviews need to say that. STEAM reviews are not by the letter of the law "is it good?" It's literally "Do you recommend it?" For someone like me? No. The problem with "simulation genre" games is with too much 'simulation' you lose the fun. A PC *game* that is a "simulator" is different than a real life simulator. To me a "Simulator" is where you go to learn to fly airlines or fighter jets. That's work though. But that's what happens here for me when I experience this game. I enjoy the plotting shots and immersion but I have a few key issues with it: 1.) It is completely devoid of a tutorial. You get into Iron Nest and by reading clipboards and looking at vague pictures on the wall you are expected to figure it out. I wanted a game, jump immediately into the fun, not to wander 20 minutes figuring out what to do and personally, i BARELY got past this point. Honestly, the "Lets Plays" on the internet surprisingly gloss over the high barrier for these first few minutes. 2.) For a game that gives you your accuracy score at the end of each mission, there are missions where it compells you to miss a shot to get a shot recalibrated and then finally you can actually hit. So you do your best work, you'll still miss, at times in this game. The community goes "But Datz REAL Artilleryz Tactiz !!" ...Perhaps? Still not fun for me, especially when the game will show you your 'poor' accuracy due to those missed shots at the end of your mission. 3.) I just find the main mechanic tedious. It feels like 'work' not a 'game'. Now, this is completely subjective (as is my whole review) so I am not saying this mechanic is *objectively* tedious...It just is for gamers like myself and I know there are many more like me. Here is my best description of taking any single shot. If what you read sounds fun, get the game. If it sounds tedious, don't get it: -See on map a target -Identify target nature (infantry, cache, artillery, etc.) -Go buy a correct shell type for the target with requistion -Plot on the map range and bearing -Spin valve with your mouse on a computer to input range -Spin two valves, one very fussy, to detirmine precise bearing on a computer -Spin another small fussy valve to detirmine target type. -Pull lever to get firing solution -Go to a different computer to pull lever for "general" bearing -Spin seperate, fussy, valve for "precision" bearing -Go to gun. Pull lever to ram the shell into gun -Pull 1-4 levers to drop powder bags -Pull other lever to ram powder into gun -Go to another computer to use lever for "general" elevation (wait 5-10 seconds for elevation to actually occur) -Spin another valve to get "precise" elevation -Review firing solution at YET ANOTHER computer -Pull another lever to arm gun -Pull another lever to fire gun -Go to map and see if you hit -Rinse, wash, repeat If that sounds amazing and how you want to spend your weekend, go buy the game. But if you read that and it sounds tedious and like work, then don't buy it. As a game that is a product it is what it wants to be and, as I've already said, well-made, but this game is not the second coming and for a chunk of the gaming community they'd just want their fun back.
I would LOVE to be able to Co-op in this game with up to 4 friends, so we could man all battle stations!
Stupidly addicting and extremely easy to grasp. Definitely a must buy
WHAT!? YOU GOTTA SPEAK UP! NO, THEY SAY IT'S NOT SERVICE RELATED! This game is the poster child for good sound design. The deafening shots and every metallic creak make the Iron Nest feel incredible. Overall it scratches a very specific itch if you love big machinery and doing repetitive procedures efficiently. As the levels go on you learn new ways to triangulate and you get your own workflow that feels really good.
This game is great, good visuals, great sounds, gameplay is fun if the idea of operating a steampunk mobile dual artillery machine sounds like fun. The game takes place in a fictional Europe, and it is obvious that a lot of love went into making the game. The problem is, the game doesn't respect your time. Early missions are relatively short, but they get longer quick. You cannot save your game mid-mission--if you quit, you lose your progress on that mission. Picture yourself enjoying a complex mission, realize that it's getting late and you need to quit, but if you do you lose all your progress. How likely is it that you'll want to redo the mission from scratch? First time it happened to me, I rolled with it. Then it happened again. And again. I'm only a few missions in, and four hours played, and I'm just frustrated with it. Maybe someday they'll add this feature, and if they do I'll certainly change this review.
