They Bleed Pixels is a fiendishly difficult action platformer inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and classic horror.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Sep 2 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It is a game for masochists, plain and simple. If you can endure endlessly dying thousands of times, until you get that struck of luck to pass those hundreds of locations where you get stuck, then go for it. Otherwise stay away and you will enjoy that free time you have for gaming a lot more. And no, I'm not giving this a negative review because I cannot finish difficult games. I can finish then, WHEN it is rewarding. The problem is this game love to kill you with cheap shots and broken gaming mechanics. It is not worth it, unless you are one of those that get your kicks bragging about finishing really difficult games.

Seems great so far. I chose novice difficulty and it was hard.

Update was pushed out 7/13/2025 with no changelog, no official announcement. As soon as update was finished the .exe was flagged and quarantined by antivirus. [strike]Developers has not replied at all to questions about this. Review will continue to be negative until this is addressed. Game is quite possibly malware now.[/strike] Edit 7/17/2025: Dev responded in the forums finally. Apparently was just a maintenance patch, so probably just a false positive by antivirus. Changing review back to thumbs up. For what it is, is a decent platformer along the lines of Super Meatboy.
8/10 It's Fun, cute pixel art, and challenging.
They Bleed Pixels is a brutally difficult combat-platformer with a maximalist approach to challenge (i.e. "more is more") that is best suited for the truly masochistic people who fondly look back at masocore, but perhaps less so for everyone else playing in this modern era. First and foremost, I was forced to limit its framerate to 30fps in order to play closer to its originally intended speed and my review is based on that experience, although I'm sure that it may have had unintended negative effects on the game. For general players, They Bleed Pixels could be a serious challenge with its long sprawling +20 minute levels (but with plenty of checkpoint opportunities) to be finished once and moved on. In such cases, the contextual combat controls and sluggish 30fps responsiveness may be a slight nuisance but doesn't diminish too much on the challenge of it all. However its philosophy to just throw more enemies, environmental hazards, and platforming sections at you, it leads to increasingly common impossible to survive situations. So while checkpoints are plentiful, it definitely can start to sour the taste of victory towards later levels. Luckily it never gets so bad, unless... For completionist sickos (like myself), the later third of They Bleed Pixels can feel genuinely unfair. At a glance, the don't die, get S rank, and speed run challenges seem like a simple case of "get good," which would be fair except for the unreliability within this game. Sometimes it's an input getting eaten, a wonky unintentional physics moment, an enemy triggering early, or the subpixel miscalculation in distance, something would go wrong often enough that it felt like I was just restarting the level / checkpoint and rolling the dice until I could have an actual attempt at the challenge. The worst offender is attempting the S rank on Hallow's Eve for me, especially after getting softlocked in a room right before the finish line where a bomb is suppose to launch a strangler into an environmental hazard to unlock the gates. But it just blew them up instead. Had to quit and lose two hours worth of attempts and the associated progress made through checkpoints. Overall, I'd still recommend They Bleed Pixels for those nostalgic for a bit of masocore challenge. But given how much the design of difficulty in games has progressed past this "more is more" approach in the years since this game's original release, I think there are better choices for the modern person looking for a challenge.
Pretty good action/precision platformer. Though I expected a little more from the action. I also thought the main gimmick, the checkpoint system was pretty flawed. There are so many spaces that limit you from setting it that it kind of feels pointless. If the gimmick is that you're able to get blood to set up checkpoints wherever you want then you should be able to set the checkpoints wherever you want. Just make the checkpoint initiation a different button/bind to prevent accidental checkpoints, remove all checkpoint restrictions outside of maybe enemy proximity, and add another button to remove checkpoints and gain back maybe a 50% blood compensation to prevent softlocks. Also the first four hours of my game was glitched, it was running at a super high speed. I was actually a little impressed at how unapologetically difficult and fast it was at first but it turns out it was just broken, I found a thread from over a decade ago on how to fix it, apparently I just needed to turn off "V-Sync" in settings and it worked.
