Familiar cathedrals, familiar monsters, familiar frustration. It may not be the most original or groundbreaking game out there, but as a gothic Metroidvania, it knows exactly how to make that familiarity work.
Pro: it plays decently enough, and has a vibe like, "if Tim Burton was the doctor delivering the baby of Blasphemous and Bloodborne." The fact that one of the first NPCs looks like Christina Ricci in Sleepy Hollow only strengthened that comparison. The whole time I played the game, it felt like, "we have Blasphemous at home." I could never stop comparing them. Here are the issues I had with this game: 1) Last Faith's plot is barely there, NPCs either drone endlessly on about matters that feel completely unrelated to Eryk's story, or they fail to put what they're telling him into context (as though Eryk knows things the player doesn't). Compounding this issue is a lack of new game plus, which would at least have made the idea of "lemme see if I can pick up more of the story on a quicker playthrough" feel more reasonable. 2) The combat action feels boring and uninspired, with cooldowns between moves that make Eryk feel slow and clunky compared to other MV protagonists. The game's only saving grace here is that bosses are also very slow. Ironically the last few bosses in the game felt easier than almost all the bosses I'd dealt with before that point. Half of the challenge in combat is simply how spongy enemies are (which has the additional negative side effect of making the firearms feel very weak). 3) Character advancement feels like it's barely there, and its main purpose is simply to cater to whichever weapon(s) you like using most. This might be less of an issue if there were more weapons. A good Metroidvania makes me want to play it again just for the fun of it, regardless of different class/build options. Ironically, this game does offer multiple classes, and I have no interest in playing it again. In conclusion, only pick up this game if you're desperate for another Metroidvania under your belt.

Fun little game. 13 hours for ~95+ completeion. Ain't no speedrunner. Game is very casual, probably the most casual side scroller I've ever played. And that's totally fine, change of pace was great. No sweating, just destroying everything. For those who wanna Platinum, do Aldrich quest asap, before entering last biome. When you'll get last exploration ability, to unlock black&red doors - do his quest before proceeding further or he'll be found dead and you wont get 2 trophies. Oh and mark places where you found Unborn collectibles. Bloodborne influence on this project is very obvious. The only mehs about the game is how short it is, and some unresponsiveness during jump attacks. Character reacting to commands right or left, while airborne with delay. Looks clumsy. Didnt play DLC, but it's free so yeah, one more pro.
Yes, it is "We have Bloodborne at home", but at the same time it is it's own unique game, and I really liked it and recommend to give it a try, though there might be a time you'll be wondering "Where the hell do I go next?", so the lack of available markers for mini-map is a bit sad.
Summary: A solid metroidvania oozing with atmosphere Combat: Combat is solid, with a lot of choice. First, you have a primary weapon and a secondary weapon. Each weapon slot has two hot swap slots. Your primary weapon has an alternate attack, and your secondary weapon consumes resources (bullets or magic). You also have a power up (the first one you get is a parry, although you get more choices throughout the game). This provides the player with a lot of choice, most of which they will not need to use throughout the game. An interesting design choice is that walking into most enemies does not hurt you (unlike other metroidvanias); movement is emphasized a lot in this game. Music: The music is atmospheric, and never gets in the way of the game. Boss monster visual design was kind of samey, which is a disappointment. Level Design: The levels are what you would expect. Some interesting additions are frozen ground which causes you to slide, swamp water which slows your movement, and way more breakable walls than I would like to see. The map is largely coherent, although some doors and elevators extend off the map to different map layers or to a disconnected map section which is disorienting. The player can pin points of interest on the map which helps with backtracking. Lore: The lore is rich and the story is good. However, the language used is intentionally obtuse. I would recommend players read/watch lore summaries if they find themselves lost in the plot. Overall: Great execution on a coherent idea. Some downsides, but over all a positive experience. Strong recommend for any metroidvania fan, or fan of the Bloodborne vibe. I'd give it an 8/10.
Do I have Dementia? I don't understand a single description of any item. I don't know where I am or have to go. And I am so slow, it feels like I'm tripping over my own feet. I'm also easily destracted, is it just me or is everything so boring? Do I have to go to a doctor or should I just play a better game?

Upon completing this game, I immediately added it to my favorites. If you enjoy Souls-likes and/or Metroidvanias, you should absolutely play this one. The combat and traversal (over time) become pretty fun, the artwork in this game is very nice, you can cancel any attack you try to execute in order to dodge incoming attacks, and there are some really memorable boss fights. One complaint I have is that you can't fully uncover the map because you can't reach some corners. The completionists will understand that one. I do have to say that a lot of content within the game feels a bit more than inspired by From Software titles (Dark Souls and Bloodborne specifically). This game plays hopscotch with the line between homage and blatant ripoff. BUT it's still a very good game and worth recognition. For me, it's a 4 out of 5.
