This game can be great... At first. My only issue with the game is what's making it game breaking at the moment. I don't have much time to game right now, and in this game one mistake, one zombie in the wrong place can ruin hours and hours of gameplay. One random harpy that jumps the walls... It it manages to destroy one building, then it's over. Hours and hours lost. And there is NO WAY TO LOAD A PREVIOUS SAVE. On any difficulty. The only option to end a game is "save and quit". You can't save without quitting, you CAN'T END A GAME WITHOUT SAVING. It's obviously a design choice. Imagine playing any other game you love, but it's perma-death and there's no way to turn it off. It's absolutely wrecked this game for me.
One of the best RTS games I've played! Great setting, atmosphere, and mechanics. Only complaint is the relatively small pool of basic troops to choose from. A real gem!

In my opinion, this is the best of these survival Age of Empires-like games on the market. It's a real shame that progress or updates to this game stopped, and no real sequel contender has arisen, because it's difficult to overstate how much fun the challenge of this game is. Even when you identify the key strategem for different levels or zones, i.e. building the particular critical mass of snipers in most cases, small variations can throw the plan into a whirl. You can miss a zombie in the fog of war, you can over-reach with your rangers and get mauled by specials, you can be a little too loud with your rockets or your mech-gentleman and get overrun. You can build up your turrets or machine guns on the wrong side and get hit by the scheduled mass-swarm. The tiniest little problems throw entire plans into whack and that's what really gets this into the 100+ hours of gameplay fun. The campaign is fun, although I do think it's poorly balanced in parts; you can sort of softlock yourself out of progress in the campaign with wrong choices. But the % challenge modes, or custom levels, really make for limitless fun when you can get mauled by those billions of zombies. Just make sure your PC can handle the specs because that final "they are billions" wave can cause some LAG if you aren't prepared for it...
I can't figure out how this game got such a high review. The basic user interface and user experience is simply terrible for an RTS games made in the 1990's, much less a game made in 2019. The ramp up in the single player campaign is boggling. You can't make new "rangers" without a barracks, but you can't make the barracks without stone... but there is no way to get stone. So you have to run around and constantly kite zombies with 4 rangers? Its just boring and tedious. Making a game "tedious" doesn't make it "challenging". Anyway, just an all around terrible experience. Nothing novel. Nothing intriguing. Just a tedious rts.

THEY ARE BILLIONS is truly a tough game 1 mistake and ur done for buy the game if u want to suffer like me
Devs are scum. They don't take any kind of criticism and proceed to lock or delete discussion threads. They've spent many years working on a Campaign Mode nobody wanted instead of adding more content or QoL updates to the exquisite Survival Mode (we all love it). Also, many years ago, there was a thread about a bug where one of your tents would start spawning zombinos out of nowhere. It wasn't a bug; it was an "evil" early-build uploaded by the devs on pirate sites. That's just pitiful. Absolute retarded devs!!
