About
GOOD NEWS EVERYONE: By purchasing the game, you actually get two games now: 1) The original The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, 2) The Unreal Engine 4 remaster called The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux. Please see The Astronauts website for details.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a first-person story-driven mystery game that focuses entirely on exploration and discovery. It contains no combat or explosions of any kind. If our game leaves any scars, we hope you won’t be able to see them.
You play the game as Paul Prospero, an occult-minded detective who receives a disturbing letter from Ethan Carter. Realizing the boy is in grave danger, Paul arrives at Ethan’s home of Red Creek Valley, where things turn out to be even worse than he imagined. Ethan has vanished in the wake of a brutal murder, which Paul quickly discerns might not be the only local murder worth looking into.
Inspired by the weird fiction (and other tales of the macabre) from the early twentieth century, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter aims to significantly evolve immersive storytelling in games. While it features a private detective and quite a few mental challenges, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is not an especially puzzle-ridden game. Our focus is on atmosphere, mood, and the essential humanity of our characters.
Still, the discoveries won’t happen on their own, or without your help. Using both Paul’s supernatural skill of being able to communicate with the dead, and your own powers of observation, you will discover the mystery behind a trail of corpses, the roots of a dark ancient force lurking in Red Creek Valley, and the fate of a missing boy.
Explore and interact with the beautiful yet ominous world of Red Creek Valley, which was created with the use of revolutionary photogrammetry technology that allows for nearly photorealistic environments.
Communicate with the dead and see how they died in order to gather clues that help you piece together the truth behind Ethan’s disappearance -- and the fate of his family.
Experience, in non-linear fashion, a story that combines the pleasures of pulp, private eye, and horror fiction, all of it inspired by writers such as Raymond Chandler, Algernon Blackwood, Stefan Grabinski, and H. P. Lovecraft.
Conduct the investigation on your own terms and at your own pace. Although there are a few scary bits in the game, players will have no need for sedatives. Our game is less about terror and more about clammy unease.

Reviews

Whoooo this game. Definetly need to replay it and will update this review probably, but for now what I remember thinking about this game, from the first time I played it long ago: Well, it's the first game that ever made me cry, so there's that. Maybe there were hints for the plot twist throughout the game that I missed when I was younger but hoooolly I bet it still hits as hard as it hit me back then, listening to the trailer is making me tear up again. So, without spoilers, the story is very enjoyable, creepy at some points and it's all the better for it. I'm a wuss when it comes to horror games and the very first time I played the ambience was so intense for me that I had to take a break, but it's so worth it. The mistery and fantastic elements are so interesting, the game kept my curiosity the entire time. This game made younger me realize why Unreal Engine is named like that, absolutely stunning graphics. My poor old computer couldn't handle it without a dramatic chop in frames and fans working the fastest they could but I bet my current pc can handle it no problem in the highest settings so I definetly need to replay, even if I already felt satisfied with the story, the environment and open-world of this game are so very good and amazing to explore. I remember enjoying the sound design a lot, it worked masterfully and provided fantastic environments. Felt quite blown away by it at some points. The walking from place to place when you're focused on objectives or want to re check something you might have missed can be a bit boring, but I think this choice works well with the story and type of game, plus you can just enjoy the environment on your way. I remember really liking the puzzles, some quite challenging. I remember thinking the investigation method was similar to that of Murdered: Soul Suspect. I went to check and they were released in the same year so perhaps it's rather that they're both similar to some other older game that I don't know, I just state this here because it's one of those thoughts that stuck with me and I did enjoy the investigations of each scene. As I said I don't want to share spoilers, but believe me this game is a memorable experience. Definetly pick it up if you're into supernatural mystery, environment puzzles and masterfully crafted audiovisual atmospheres.
Thank you The Astronauts Dziekuje bardzo za ten moment
I enjoyed What remains of edith finch. But this one is exceptional outraging. How I'm suppose guess where to go? Ohh, I have three pathways at the start - let me go to the left(dead end) - let's go to the right(ohhhh it's the same as the middle one) - so I'm going onward anyway. The first house I walked in made me feel bad because of puzzle with the rooms. Those bad design decisions with the lack of the objects you can interact with making the game walking simulator. It's really poor designed - if not, please explain me why should I walk with the shift button pressed on for 30 mins? I see no other answer. The music is not quite bad/it's making a weird feeling because it's changing the theme every 3 minutes even if you just go but nothing happening on the screen. Overall, it's brrrrr-class kind of game 2/10
