Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4.57/day in the week to Sep 7 → 3.71/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian is a narrative role-playing game telling the story of a cruel world, where lawbreaking is met with severe punishment, and a crown prince must decide the destiny of the land. Whether you rule maintaining the old order, or create a new future is up to you.
In the Great Arknian Empire, everyone’s life is determined by their birth. Such is the ultimate law laid down by the Twins, stern gods who divided society into Lots. The clergy shows people the right path, the nobles rule, and the commoners’ Lot is working and suffering in obedience. Your fate, however, is very different: to be the chosen of the gods, become their tool, and govern the entire nation.
You, Prince Jerian of the Tempest, must embark on a lifelong journey: starting as a child unaware of his destiny, and becoming an emperor for whose role you have been preparing since birth. As a crown prince, you will have to understand your country and its culture, but also make difficult choices affecting the fragile balance of powers in the Empire, and yourself.
Developed by the creators of The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, the events of this new game take place in the same universe, but tell a completely different story. While The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian inherits existing gameplay features, it also contains new mechanics reflecting the protagonist’s role and traits.

As a future ruler, you must learn the current state of the Empire. The treasury is running dry as the estates rise one against another, fighting for their interests. The church withers and sows hatred among the people, noble houses aspire to keep the old traditions, and commoners demand equal rights with the nobility. Pay attention to these circumstances and decide the country’s path while chasing your own goals.

The time will come, and the Emperor’s scepter will lie in your hands, but you feel its weight even now. You have to act immediately: you are the only one able to change the course of history, to unite or shatter the country. Make difficult choices that affect the nation and you alike. Promises given to yourself might become your most unbearable burden. Every decision brings consequences, and your mistakes will be paid for by the entire Empire.

You were given power by birth, but the cost of such majesty is your own ambition. You are shackled not only by the outside world and its circumstances, but also by your soul. Thinking of who you are, who you want to be, and who the Empire wants to see in you, such is your lot. Making a choice of your own requires a sacrifice. Following the political situation and your family’s demands might drive you mad. Will you save yourself or allow your soul to shatter into pieces?

Be careful in choosing your allies: those who you keep close will shape your character and affect your decisions. Your family, your subjects, nobles and commoners alike, every single one wants your attention and patronage. Help one, and you will lose the support of another. Whether you succeed in maintaining the fragile balance of the Empire or let it all burn down in civil war will be decided by you.

Not only are you the crown prince, but also the Primate, who connects the worlds of the living and the divine. You and your family of the Tempest are the keepers of the Pact, a “testament” between the Twins and those who live by their will. Can it be changed without dooming the world? You will find the answer yourself.

The power that you possess is not an end, but a means. You are destined to save the world entrusted to you by your ancestors and gods. What future awaits the New Empire, and who will benefit? Whose sufferings will end, and whose will begin? Only time will tell.

Decent visual novel/CYOA. Plays similarly to The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, but with a more intriguing premise and a lot less moralizing. This installment does a lot to flesh out a society and culture that often times comes across as unilaterally cruel and oppressive in the first game. The Arknians are still deeply alien, but their values and actions make sense within their own context, and, I'd say, within the Empire as a whole. Without spoiling anything, the way they function adds in some cool psychological questions, and it's up to you to decide how you feel about them. The game doesn't brownbeat you about accepting the Arknians for who they are. One massive letdown is the finale. The entire story builds up towards it with mechanics that get unveiled each chapter, and values you're optimizing and making trade-offs for with every choice, but the moment where it should all come together transitions jarringly to retrospective narration and broad, unsatisfying descriptions of the events. You don't get to see the consequences of your planning and efforts through the eyes of your character, or respond to them as they happen with the pieces you've laid on the board. This title really demanded something the length of a full chapter for its ending, even if it would've been the most difficult part to script and write. Other than that, I spotted a handful of spelling and editorial errors while playing the first patch. Those were seemingly gone when I completed the last two chapters with patch 4, but whether that's a mark of the patches or simply where the team's attention went during development is hard to say. Either way, the game is actively being updated so all remaining kinks will probably be gone within a month or two. Overall: decent interactive reading, which is pretty rare these days. Worth the full price if you're into this type of media, otherwise get it on sale.

Know this, it's not perfect by any means. But the core value of being a ruler remains strong within this game. Machiavelli at work, like, literally. You are the prince, with a weak father, surrounded by a family, your blood predecessors, friends, and even subjects who will manipulate you the moment it serves them. That's the point. Even the mechanics aren't perfect, with points calculation driving the main gameplay loop. But the story, dialogue, and artwork feel genuinely well crafted, made with the same passion as its predecessor. Though it tells a different story from The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, it shares the same timeline, the grim and choice driven world, one where the Twins, the stern gods who divided society into rigid Lots, watch over every soul and judge every choice you make. So play it the way you want. Bend the rules, break them, or bow to them. It won't matter in the end. Become the ruler you deserve to be, because whichever path you take, the reckoning will come for you. Remember, The Twins are always watching.
I'm giving this a a negative review, but by a thin margin. I don't think its THAT bad, but I definitely prefer Sir Brante. The story in this one can honestly just be a bit too complex and too binary at the same time, whilst also being way too easy at points and way too hard or having insanely thin choice margins in others. It tries to introduce too many characters and lore, but the actual game just can't carry it. Sir Brante was somewhat binary, but the story was actually engaging on either side, so it worked. The story can just drag a lot in this one, with long stretches where nothing is really happening. And Suzerain is the same way, but those long bureaucratic stretches work. I don't have an exact review or diagnosis as to why Suzerain works so well for me and this game falls flat, but I think it just comes down to Suzerain having more developed and less one-note characters. Despite this game advertising itself as "Choices matter, you'll have to make sacrifices" as Brante did, there's not really any sacrifices to be made. To be fair, I've only played the first 3 chapters out of 5, but by this point, Brante was interesting and building towards something with you choosing your path in life and the entire game changing past that point depending on what you choose. In Brante, there were actual sacrifices. In this, I got the opinion of the Great Houses and the Distinguished Arknians down to 0, and then they rebelled for a bit, I crushed it with one button press, and then it was over and nothing really changed. Nothing feels important because you can essentially just say "no" to anyone opposing you and do whatever you want, and then in other aspects of the game if you don't have one extra point in logic, your entire run is going to be ruined. The scaling is horrible. In Brante you were essentially fighting for your three lives in every choice. This game also gets rid of the 3 lives feature, which makes sense for story reasons but it was one of the most interesting and unique parts of Brante. Kind of a let down. Maybe the game actually does get better in the last 2 chapters but... especially compared to Brante, it just feels like a let down? Overall, I don't think the game is explicitly bad, but I'd rather just play Sir Brante.
I'm liking Jerian even more than Sir Brante, actually. I'm on my first playthrough right now. My personal decisions moved my personality towards "Love" (I won't spoil what that means plot wise). But my political choices moved me towards the conservative (i.e. blue) end. As the game went on, it got harder and harder to stay in power. In order to stop either a rebellion or my political enemies from overthrowing me (which forced a couple of chapter restarts), I had to shatter all my family's dreams. I've done terrible things to all my romantic interests, including my fiancee. I also had to sacrifice all the political choices tied to high Love to survive and my sanity has now dropped to 1. This game is about experiencing conflicts between your personal and your political goals. I didn't really get that when I was starting out because I thought "this is so complicated and Brante was much cleaner". But now that I'm near the end, I'm amazed how the game played out for me. I felt so terrible betraying
Lucretia
, and yet I did it anyway . . . to win. I think people miss how stark the choices were in Sir Brante. You made a single epic choice that split the game into three different paths. Brante is awesome, but Jerian is much more subtle, and I love it for that.
The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian(PJ) is second game in the series, which doubles on everything, which Sir Brante was. PJ has deeper story, which shares a lot more about world and politics of Blessed Arknian Empire. It has considerably more illustrations(few of which were rushed), characters, skills and sadly requirements for unlocking story choices. I played this game with hidden consequences in order to role play as character and this often made me feel frustrated. I just don’t get this concept, which turns high quality interactive fiction into mathematical puzzle. Requirements are often illogical: you can’t seize manor(which is placed inside your lands) because you don’t have enough Blood(stat, which reflects your piety towards bloodline) or you can't side with a character because your protagonist has too much Logic(despite this option being the most logical choice imho). You’re constantly placed in a situation, where only one choice out of four is unlocked because you don’t have one point in some skill or you have one too much...It was similar with Sir Brante, but it feels even more suffocating in PJ or I’ve just become old and don’t want to deal with it anymore. I’ll complete this game after someone makes a mod, which disables skill checks. Pros: - story; - art(it’s different from Sir Brante, but still mostly liked it with a few exceptions like new Octavia look, etc.); - level of character depth. Cons: - if you chose mathematical puzzle as core game mechanics than it’s essential to have a mode, where only choices are shown; it’s tiresome to skip all text manually to redo a choice; - numbers-game(already said enough on this matter, just want to add that getting Shattered Hopes after single choice is ridiculous especially when you picked a “compromise” option, which was locked behind a skill check, while you had maxed out relationship with a character); - some illustrations were rushed: urn inside urn(A Wondrous New World), Servilia's lower half of the body is twice as big as the upper one(Servilia's illustration with mask in hand), chess pieces(The Big Game), flying candelabra(The Great Censor), etc. Technical issues: - I had white blinking square constantly appearing in the right below corner of all the illustrations. Conclusion: game isn’t bad, even can be called an improvement over Sir Brante in many aspects, but I’ve decided to go with negative review because numbers-game is too tedious for me.
